This song makes me cry every single time. My father spent years blaming me for not reaching out to him and never taking responsibility for trying to see me. I was a child. And as an adult, the few times I did see him he just pushed me towards careers/schooling that I didn't want. I was happy at my job and making decent money, but it was never enough for him. Now our relationship is one text on my birthday and one at Christmas sometimes. Every time they get to that "I'm grateful you're my father/daughter" line, I become a blubbering mess 🥲

@@whatitdodave "More than anything" This Song by Lucifer and his daughter Charlie brought me and my sister to tears from yesterday until now. And lover duet is breaking my heart. It's possible that Eve is character named Roo = Root of Evil in hell. Vivziepop has mention that she will in story.
@somethingsinister...80359 ай бұрын
My theory for the ducks is him being fixated on the moment Charlie first laid eyes on one of his creations, the part where she sneaks in while he was working, and so he holds on to that memory of her smile despite being estranged for a long while. There's also that line he sings, "I've missed that smile."
@baddicusauraelius17289 ай бұрын
That's honestly a very good inference, and I hadn't thought about that before. Good observation!

I thought that too. It was a happy memory for him and Charlie and that's what he latched onto in the midst of his depression.
@luvcannoli9 ай бұрын
Oh wow I like that! One other interpretation for his fixation that I’ve heard is Lucifer sees himself as the “ugly duckling” story, the one duck who gets ostracized or separated from his family/pact. He also shows Charlie the duck turning into a swan, which is reminiscent of the ugly duckling story!

Love the symbolism at 1:30 Lucifer’s face just says “ok here we go again” but the next scene, when the spears are aimed at Charlie, that’s fear. He’s fine with himself being the target because, as Adam points out, most hated being in all of creation Lucifer, he’s used to it.

I'm pretty sure the reason he's so obsessed with ducks is in that very flashback scene they show during the song: it's one of his last memories where all three of them were together and where he saw his creativity spark joy in the eyes of his beloved daughter. His experience with the damned souls caused him to be bitter and withdrawn, but something in him still yearned for those better days and he kind of got obsessed with it, I guess.

the duck thing most people think is because before Lilith took Charlie from Lucifer, Charlie was smiling at the duck Lucifer made with magic so I guess coping with his depression through reminder of a happy memory

this one hit hard for me. I was 22 when I had my first real relationship and, unfortunately, I was too naïve to realize I was being brainwashed by my partner. I was telling off my parents (especially my dad), I moved in with my partner against my parents' wishes, my dad and I would shout and scream at each other (each of us having a time where we restrained ourselves from coming to blows just seconds before one was thrown!), and the relationship between us was ripped away. we had been very close up until then (ironically, just like Charlie, my dad would read me stories that completely enthralled me with imagination). it was 6 YEARS until I realized that I had been nothing but a cash register to my partner and was back in touch with my parents. so hearing "all that I am hopin' now that my eyes are open is that we can start again not be pulled apart again" brought me to tears. then when I showed it to my dad, we were both in tears but we both love it, so much so that we made the song each other's ringtones lol ❤ I'm even starting to play acoustic guitar with him to cover it sometime ❤

This song got me when I first heard it. My parents divorced when I was 3, and my brother and I were raised by our mom in California while Dad stayed in Minnesota. We only ever got to see him during the summer, but whenever we did, he treated us more like friends than his actual kids. He didn't really know how to parent us and, while we absolutely love both of our parents, Dad kinda felt like a stranger to us. That's not to say he didn't try or that there was any lack of effort on his part. He used to take us camping all the time and we were always going on little trips with him throughout the Twin Cities to places we had never been. He always made those special trips feel like little adventures, but he would always stand back and watch us. He would only engage with us whenever we approached him like he wasn't sure how to talk to us. Eventually, a few years after I graduated, I moved in with Dad and lived in Minnesota for a few years and we were able to get to know each other a little better. My dad suffers from depression as a result of the divorce as well as my brother and I being taken from him. He felt like he missed out on being a father to us, but he was grateful that I was more than willing to give him that chance again. For almost four years, we spent time together, even after I got my own place. We would go on bike trails, he would visit me at work, I would spend weekends with him sharing a couple beers and talking about our day while listening to Led Zeppelin or othe music my dad enjoyed. So, yeah, this song made me think of him and cry the first time I heard it. It's been over a year since I moved back to California. I miss him so much, but I'm hoping to see him again soon.

I had a similar situation, except my parents were never married. Dad was always a long car ride away so my sister and I only saw him in the summer and every other Christmas, and I remember like 2 birthdays. We both also moved in with him in NY for a while, though my sister stayed longer. Anyway it's nice to know that someone else had this experience and also got emotional from this song. Just goes to show how much feeling they put in it.

@@MCRxfan20 Growing up in a situation where your parents are separated for whatever reason can really have an impact on the child or children involved. But, it is important to remember that there are others who can relate to you about similar situations. It makes it seem less lonely, in my opinion.

I cry every time I hear this because I know it’s something that I never got to experience. I also cry because I know that the man I’m marrying will be the most amazing father. He holds and shelters my heart and is the light in my life that I needed when I couldn’t see through all the darkness. He’s my lighthouse and I know that one day he will be the same to our children.

Most people I've heard react or talk about this song have come at it from Charlie's side, the child reconnecting with a parent. I'm opposite. I look at it from Lucifer's side. It's why I connect so hard with him in this show. A parent, who tried to do something great, failed miserably, and is punished for eternity. Sunk into depression and doesn't want to place that burden on anyone else to deal with and so self isolates. Yeah, me.
