JD's habit of singing under the note was a practiced one. His philosophy was you can go up to fix a flat note, but it was harder to go down and fix a sharp one. The part of the video where the lady had the facial expression, I was in the studio when that was being done. Lots of fun memories there.

@maloxi14723 жыл бұрын
Dan, I've always wanted to ask you, since your use of extended bass singing techniques is honestly mind-blowing: - How to improve my vocal fry (make it sound more "buttery" and less "creaky") ? Any exercises to recommend ? - How do I learn to pitch my vocal fry (down and up) in order to connect it to my chest voice ? I've noticed that the lower my chest voice is (for example in the morning), the better my vocal fry sounds... but it might be the other way around; in which case, how do I keep my voice in general that low during the day ? My preferred techniques to sing really low are subharmonics and chest-fry mix, so you can understand why improving the vocal fry is so important... or maybe it's not as important as I think and I'm missing something 😅

The upper range and timbre for that just aren't there, bro😂 Also, in the last few months, I've finally found a way to stabilize the lower subs without relying on morning voice (there's just no way around grinding to develop the muscle memory and voice quality). Sub range is now Eb1-B1. Now working on speed, stamina and vowel/timbre variations to blend better with the lower chest voice and be able to sing entire phrases 😎 I'll go back to extending the range when that's done...
