My Grandad Floyd Beck started Gold City and specified that he wanted Tim as their bass. Mr. Tim is one of the top 3 bass singers in gospel music history in my book. He is a legend and a very very good man. Great video sir.

I love it when people get introduced to southen gospel music for the first time back before country music rock and roll there was southern gospel go back to two mics and a piano player days they where the rock stars of music now nobody knows the music anymore but we do exist

2:25 I thought I’d mention that with bass singers your prime is when your older because your voice constantly gets lower and fuller as you age Edit: for example if you listen to Geoff Castellucci 10 years ago it doesn’t compare

So if Tim Faust is only 32 then he still has time to catch up with this guy?

I've known Gold City All of my life and i mean (ALL)..my mother always went to Nashville in her youth to Gospel conventions where she met and also sang with Time Riley and Gold City..so naturally when i was born she would take me to meet the Group..and they became family..and i was like a son...they even took turns holding me while they performed onstage..this was 38 yrs ago so the group then i believe was Time Riley, Ivan Parker, Brian Free AKA Precious and Mike Lefevre. even though Tim has Retired i still to this day get calls from him when he is with the group close to my home and ill go sing with him and his son...love this man. Gold City is the reason i started singing to begin with.

I grew up with them as well. They watched my sister and me grow up and knew our favorites to sing when we were there. ❤️

I know what you mean. When I was singing tenor with the Dixie Melody Boys, seems like I could hit any note I wanted. That was in the 70's. Now that I'm old(er), I have to find something to stand on .
@billybandit81622 жыл бұрын
@@heartsong3149 That's awesome..I have always loved singing..but if I have to be honest..I'm not a horrible singer..but I'm no American Idol either lol..I'm good for the local karaoke places..lol I know my limitations lol 😆

Listen to Ken Turner doing rainbow of love man, then the emperor dragon himself, Tim Storms
@GamingDrummer893 жыл бұрын
Tim Storms doesn't have much power below the middle of the second octave, and most of the contra octave stuff and lower seems like it's just mastered fry. Ken Turner uses subharmonics and possibly inwards fry sometimes for the really low stuff, but he sounds REALLY good doing it, so he's another guy I like. He can even "play instruments" with his voice like the trumpet and the trombone, so he's quite a talent!
@Marcell0Bass4 жыл бұрын
Oh hell yes! You should check out Crystal river boys do this song too Ken Turner goes lower than low
@Robin-ij6ks3 жыл бұрын
But his chest register isnt as clear and voluminous as Rileys
@hypercubemaster27292 жыл бұрын
@@Robin-ij6ks Not only that, but I'm pretty sure Ken resorts to ingressive phonation to hit his lowest notes. He's as pitchy down there as JD was.

Honey, this is a genre called Southern Gospel, mainly known for its quartets. Some of those old boys will rock your socks off. Gold City was/is one of the more successful quartets. There was another group contemporary with them called the Kingsmen, and they did a few tours together under the name King's Gold. Check them out. Also, as others have noted, this same song has been done in lower keys by the Crystal River Boys, and also by J.D. Sumner and the Stamps. J.D. toured with Elvis at one time, and is also the first guy credited with the idea of touring in a bus!

I actually met Tim Riley, and he told me himself he doesn't use fry. He actually wasn't sure what I was talking about when I said "fry", so I showed him fry in its pure form and his reaction was "Oh no, I can't stand that!" Hahaha. To be fair, though, I think when most people say they don't use it, they mean it in its pure form (i.e. a "fake" note)...sometimes you'll hear it mix in with chest voice on the REALLY deep notes. That's still technically singing, though.

The great Tim Riley, what can I say, it would be nice if you reacted to the legendary bass singer named J. D. Sumner. There's a video called: worlds lowest bass singer JD Sumners all time lowest notes, it's a good one or let us break bread together in Bill Gaither's channel

Check out JD Sumner and the stamps. Old-school quartet music and JD may still hold the record for the deepest voice. They were the back up group for Elvis.

You’re correct man that was all chest no fry. Some of these gospel bass singers just have superhuman low voices you need to check out some of JD Sumner I’m telling you you won’t believe what he can do he only uses his chest voice no technique whatsoever.
