I always had manual cars, I recently got an automatic Vett, the way they make automatic cars now it's a lot faster than manuals, it's computer vs humans...it shifts quicker....now don't get me wrong...there's no better feeling than driving a manual car

Also think about this dude. The guy with the automatic transmission had a spoiler which added downforce and slowed it down. Had he removed it, it would have been an interesting test because in drag racing, it's all about a straight line and not a circuit.

That is why in racing, they should separate over all with just manual or automatic. Automatic vs automatic of the same car may be more luck than stick vs stick or do "dual" racing. Of course that would cost more money or the racers should just switch cars and race at the cost of more risk.

For me, manuals are just more fun to drive. I had a 2013 FR-S 10 series dual transmission and traded it for a 2017 Toyota 86 860 special edition manual transmission. I didn't get the excitement from the FR-S as I do in the 86. With a manual, not only does it feel like that you are in control of your car better but it saves your brakes over time and it saves you on gas (only if you know how) when you're playing it cool. With a manual, you usually get the jump start on the line too. There are a lot of pros with a manual but there are some cons too. It's definitely a personal preference but a true "racer or drifter" will almost always go with a manual sports car. For most, it's what they learned to drift or race with and what feels comfortable to them. My brother can't drive a manual to save his life but it's because he was never taught and never cared to learn. Me on the other hand, I was born, raised, and taught in a manual car. My mom always said that she wanted me to learn because one day, I may be stuck in a bad situation somewhere and if there was only a manual to drive, I might be the only one but at least I could drive it. Great logic if you ask me.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter which is faster bcuz it doesn't make a far difference. But it really feels good and really fun for me when you are twisting the hand grip overtime while you are in stop or in neutral mode. You can't do it in automatic motorcycles.

The reason it depends on driver with the manual is because basically when both are stock there pretty much even, on a track the manual and the automatic are only 1 second to a half a second difference between each other depends on driver and mods done to the car

Manual transmission looks better even when losing, cuz automatic trans guy just hit the pedal and the car did everything, and manual trans guy had to actually do something otherwise he stays in 1st shift. Went over to a subaru levorg GTS with automatic CVT and now I don't even want to think about manual gearing. I think I would buy my BRZ as automatic, the paddle shifting looks so comfortable rather then cluching and moving the hand off from the steering wheel. :)

I got to drive a friend's manual frs, and the gearing isn't actually that great for getting going quickly. The rpm drop from 1st-2nd is quite large, and the engine doesn't really have the mid range to pull through it quickly. Can't speak for the auto though.

BeaKhan did you check the codes? Ive read that a cell code along with traction control light will put the car in limp mode and reduce power. I dont remember the traction control light coming on when i had the headers o2 sensor cel pop up but when my battery was dying the cel and traction control went on and it reduced overall power.

Project A not on the FRS/BRZ platform...they have different gear ratios. Manual is always faster. But with other modern platforms you are right the auto should be faster.

I drive a semi-auto SUV with paddle shifters, it's the closest I get to a manual because I have an injury on my left foot which means I can't use a clutch for no longer than 5 minutes. I've driven a friends manual car in a car park and I didn't stall it once and I enjoyed every second of it but unfortunately I'm missing out on the fun, I live in a busy city that's always bumper to bumper traffic in the day time but not so bad on late evenings. Standards are definitely so much more fun and engaging to the driving experience than autos but I miss out on that (except for traffic).

TurnIP they're sequential manual with paddle shifters and no clutch, so they're manual automatics, not old school cutch and h pattern

I'm all for stick, but not all people like driving cars, and even less are passionate about it. The new automatics are objectively better than manuals now. They switch gears faster, are more precise and can do it mid-turn without loosing traction. Manuals have become a thing of the past. It's only for enthusiasts now. I still prefer stick though... I'm one of the passionates. :P
