I was driving and had to slam on the breaks the break pedal went to the floor, I heard this sound and thought I had blown something turns out I have advanced break assist with ABS. It crazy when you let off the break yet the pedal is still stuck on the floor until the vehicle stops. But now that I fully understand the technology I feel a little bit better, PS just because you have ABS don't tail-gate.

What if this happens on a regular road with no ice no rain not slippery at all when it give it some gas it does that sometimes then I release and keep driving and it goes away. Happens only when I don’t want it to then when I want it to so I can show someone it doesn’t happen. What u think wheel speed sensor?
@iamagina2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, my mechanic just changed the speed sensor of my back tyres, the ABS light on the dashboard cleared up. However, I hear this same sound when I slow down and hit the brakes... And it happens even on a bad road; what could be the cause.
@jenniferduenes2411 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, Thanks for the information - we just got a used Sienna 2007 and having gotten a grinding noise only on the last few seconds of sudden stops. When we drive on a wet road, it keeps going a few more feet, but it also makes the noise (but stops pretty quickly) when we hit the brakes suddenly on a dry road (again, only in the last few seconds of the braking, and usually not when you're going really slow). Is this ABS?
@plonkster6 жыл бұрын
The one thing I'm never sure about is whether ABS helps you on a gravel/dirt road or not. I live in Africa, so we have plenty of those. Without ABS, when you hit the brakes the car basically ploughs and kicks up dirt in front of the wheel, which makes for pretty effective stopping, something you really need when you have to avoid an antelope of some kind. With ABS, from the perspective of the panicky driver, it feels like the ABS avoids ploughing and actually extends the stopping distance. It's subjective, so I may well be wrong. The two times I had to brake for an Antelope (A Gemsbok/Oryx and a Kudu) the ABS kicked in and I still stopped in time. Thankfully. It's the kind of thing I'd really like to test some day :-)
@RoBFE-fe5dh Жыл бұрын
I was told you don't hit the breaks you just plow on through them. When you stop or slow down it's more likely it will hit your windshield.
@jahazielconstanza Жыл бұрын
It probably does, this morning on my way to work I had to abruptly break right before a speed bump on a semi-gravel road and they worked to stop the car, I obviously heard the noise this guy describes, plus the road was wet cause I rained a lot
@plonkster Жыл бұрын
@@jahazielconstanzaI just returned from another trip to my neighbouring country, and PLENTY of braking to avoid the animals. I came to the conclusion that while ABS may extend the stopping distance somewhat, the fact that it also allows more control (you can steer while braking) makes up for it.

During normal ABS operation, you should not feel it in on the pedal. The ABS control module flips a valve that will completely stop you from adding pressure, thus it should feel "still" no matter how hard you slam it. Given the information you have supplied to me, you most likely have warped/worn rotors or drums. The sensation you feel in the brake pedal is the hydraulic brake fluid pushing back and forth rapidly due to the lateral runout on your rotors. The longer you do not address this issue, the more deformed the rotors get thus more pulsation you will feel. If this is indeed the issue, it's not a fortune to repair. Don't worry it's quite common. Go to your local shop and ask for your rotors/drums to be "refinished". It will "flatten" them out for linear stopping and the brake pedal pulsation should go away. There may be a chance that they cannot refinish your rotors because they are too thin. This is a real thing and is called "Discard Diameter", they are not ripping you off. New rotors should be no more than $400 unless you drive something real fancy. I'm currently a college student in Automotive Technology, I wish you the best luck!

Are the all cars even new ones have this noise when abs brake working? I have a 2004 car and it makes this sound and i thought it would be a fault of brakes roters or any wrong with right driver side wheel.
@juanzingarello40058 жыл бұрын
I guess this system works differently in Toyotas. I experienced the ABS system for the first time in my 2016 Rav4 (I knew it was the ABS) but I noticed it felt differently than the system in our 2000 Pathfinder. The Toyota system seems like the brake compression duration varies as you slow down and I noticed it's a bit rougher in my Rav than what I experienced before. It could also be because its a more modern system.
@Biriadan2 жыл бұрын
Emergency brake assist. If the car detects emergency braking it'll apply full brake force immediately. So ABS will engage far higher up if you nail the brake.

@sourmiIk4 жыл бұрын
either your tires need replacing, or your abs chip is faulty. or worse, if your brake pedal vibrates and its speed varies depending on your speed, then your rotor is bent.
