The upgrades to the fuel system are necessary depending on the HP output you are aiming for. If you plan on going to the 500HP + then you will need to upgrade the fuelling system without a doubt.

Much better production guys, thank you so much. I've got an MQB RS3 Where are our turbos!? :) I know there are a couple guys out there doing hybrids, but I'd rather pick up turbo work from you. I also think perhaps you guys should do more Chinese comparisons versus OE on the balancer. For instance, my GRX3584RS was one of the finest pieces of precision machinery I've ever held. They have chinese versions now. Break those down and see how they go, that would be a great video! Things like that

RS3 DAZA mods coming soon - currently busy with same. The chinese products we wont do comparisons on in any concise way as we are not happy educating them. We either manufacture our own products which are proven, tested and guaranteed or we use Genuine Brand products like BorgWarner etc.

Im not too sure - this is not the most popular upgrade for us. Once again 400HP on my dyno is totally different to 400HP on someone elses Dyno - im not sure whether the rods are the same as the EA888.3 or not.

Thanks for the comment - we dont do the comp housing revision for the inline engines at this time. It could be something that we will do in the near future, possibly 2021 before SEMA and PRI

Great suggestions thanks for video. I have a question which does not need to be limited by this engine. In general, stock engines fails due to excess of torque limits of the rods. Is it possible to just open top of the engine, do some valvetrain work such as port and polish, stronger valves and springs, then run engine higher rpm keeping boost relatively low to make around 500whp without Rod failure.

Thank you for the comment. There is no way that a valve job or springs will relieve pressure in the cylinder to protect a rod. BMEP (Brake mean effective pressure) is where the engine produces its output, the only way to affect (negatively or positively) the engines output is to change the BMEP - the internal cylinder pressures during the compression and power strokes are what exert the forces on the internal engine components, stronger rods for higher RPM or higher HP are a must not matter what.

Your knowledge on turbo's makes this hands down the best utube channel for turbo related stuff. What is the best turbo for standing starts is it the borg warner EFR 7064. Looking for about 410bhp from a 4" trackslag downpipe rest of the exhaust stock and muffler delete with a racingline r600 intake. I'm UK based and the car is a daily and won't be doing track days would i still need an intercooler.

What is your view on a 7163 .8AR T4 divided inlet , for a 2.0L JDM Subaru Sti built motor , 1000cc ID, tome I h beam rods,Manley forged pistons, AEM 340 lpm fuel pump, aiming at 400+ whp range daily driver / occasional weekend track .or what would be your recommendation

Beautiful choice - the twin scroll housing AR is smaller than the Vband and T25 flnage face model housings- will spool slightly faster but you will suffer a little ontop. However - you will make the 400HP you looking for. If you see that the torque curve falls off a little up top, change the turbine housing to the Vband unit (up-pipe change....) So rather make this decision now up front, in case you want more later. If spool is more important than all out power up top - then go Twin scroll.

Assuming i upgrade to an IS38 700, can the stock engine cooling system handle the increased power and torque reliably in the long run? Will I need to adjust the fluids maintenance schedule? TIA.

Berns - the stock cooling system is 100% for s street car or even drag car - circuit racing where constant loads and high HP is produced will require an upgrade to the cooling system (Radiator specifically) No additional cooling fluid maintenance required, BUT i would shorten the oil change/service intervals DEPENDING ON THE TUNING ....... Tuning is 100% directly related to the oil degradation. i.e overly rich mixtures will degrade the oil faster than a leaner tune. Driving hard more than taking it easy will degrade the oil faster --- so to keep it safe, shorten the oil changes from 15000kms to 10000kms. This will maintain reliability.

Garrett Powermax seems to be the go to now rather than an is38. Stronger, similar spool to the is38 & better power with an appropriate tune. Almost a no brainier for those with a 38 or thinking about one

Thank you do much. Great informative video. On the turbos, the best for a daily with around 450hp would be the is38 700 due to the ball bearing setup as this would be the one with least lag, am I correct or what would be the other option, if any taking lag into account.

Thanks for the comment, the daily driver setup can be divided into two sections, the first is the bolt on turbocharger setup which will incorporate the off the shelf DP and Cooler and the second section would entail the TurboDirect S.A Swirl Adapter together with a choice of pretty much any Vband (76mm) turbocharger which will bolt onto it - so options like the G25, GTX30xx Gen1 or Gen2, GTX35, G35, EFR7163 and EFR7670 -- the most streetable setup in my opinion is the light weight BorgWarner EFR range like the 7163 - Then would be the G25 from Garrett. Both are streetable and will make more than the 450WHP so at a later stage if you decide to build the motor, you can simply up the boost and youll see the extra HP

@@loustath1583 Yes you will need the Swirl adapter and the DP we manufacture to suit due to the slightly different install location. The outlet pipe from the comp housing routing to the cooler will also need to be changed. We can build this for you in house or you can have a fabrication shop do the same for you.

I've been watching your videos for awhile and still have a lot of questions. Both my friend and myself have had hybrid turbos that have failed. What I'm really looking for is a turbo that makes around 400hp with a stock motor that is ball bearing. There don't seem to be any turbos for the MK7 that do that. Can you guys make something like this? Or what about the swirl adapters? Seems like you can use any turbo (including the garrett ball bearing offerings) with the swirl adapter but then what about the diverter valve? and oil/coolant lines? Does that all have to be custom? Can you make a video talking about this? Such as if there will be a ball bearing option that is not as powerful as the is38700 or how to get a garrett turbo to work with all the cooling and oil and wastegate/diverter stuff? Thanks.

Thanks for the comments Navi - in the video i cover the options, i would use the IS38-700 setup for the 400HP you want, you will make that power at low boost probably 1.2bar on pump fuel. The setup will be ultimately reliable at this low pressure. With the IS38-700 we supply lines with these turbos pre-made to maintain 100% bolt on setup - even your stock DP will fit (sure you need to upgrade this with a larger turbo) just to show the bolt on design setup, the stock actuator runs on the IS38-700. The other option we busy with now is a ball bearing setup using a smaller 480HP capable turbo which will spool lightning fast and will make out at around 450-480HP and moves the power curve down in the RPM range.

I will also buy this small frame ball bearing bolt on turbo from you, provided it has OEM fitment and function. Please provide a tuning option for our shitty American gas - 91 AKI. And please bear in mind that for some of us, less is more. My car is my daily and I have no use for more than 400hp/400ft lbs at the crank, especially given the inherent risk in not opening up the motor. I think many people are also happy at the 400 mark, particularly if it offers better spool and dependability.

Not 100% sure on this one, we have never played with these engines much - i have seen a few cars running 300WKW with reliable results, but not more than this on a stock bottom end. the best setup depends on budget. if you can’t afford a rebuild DONT push hard! HEAT HEAT AND HEAT AGAIN!! Standard cars don’t like heat. Metals don’t like heat and definitely turbo engines even more! metal is soft when hot! its not emphasised here and it should be! throwing a rod from operating temperature is way harder than a hot hot engine! if you beat on the car, give it cool down time. hot lap-cold lap sort of thinking. i’m talking street cars and some race cars too. the oil film when real hot is far less protective, steel and alloy distorts. Your detonation margin is also greatly reduced! many times it’s heat that breaks your motor

No actually the video put it out to you as the vehicle owner, to choose a turbo based on what HP target you want to make based on the limits of the stock motors capability. There are PLENTY of options depending on your HP target, HOWEVER you will need an intercooler upgrade aswell as DP and obviously software to couple together to this in order to achieve whatever your HP target might be.

Everything you state in this video such as the horsepower limits, and hybrid failure has been debunked by tons and tons of people running 500 whp on stock motor and running hybrids for thousands of miles with no issues, this is very very biased and false information.
