I think traveling encourages people to use WhatsApp or other messengers instead of texting. Texting requires a phone number but you don't have to download any app to use it. But once you start traveling, you don't want to pay roaming fees for texting abroad. So then you're motivated to download and use WhatsApp.

Literally. When I travel to Europe, everyone either had WhatsApp it Facebook Messenger, or occasionally just Instagram DMs as a last resort. Because WhatsApp works with both WiFi and cellular, unlike international roaming or whatever (which again costs an arm, a foot, and a kidney) it's seamless conversing with people regardless of the country. In Serbia, Viber is the app most widely used and known. WhatsApp is not that well known. I'm in Australia and WhatsApp is used by a lot of Uni students or the younger generation

Biggest reason not to use WhatsApp is that it’s owned by Facebook
@sahildharwani37845 жыл бұрын
Facebook also owns Instagram
@Shipslitz5 жыл бұрын
exactly. no Facebook-owned tools. Americans consider their tool providers. if we want to shut a company down, we stop using their tools 😂

As a norwegian, I don't know a single person who uses whatsapp... Every single carrier has offered free texts and calls for years and years, and if we travel abroad, we use facebook messenger. I struggle to see the need for whatsapp in this day and age, especially here in Norway
