We take a look at the enormous success that is the Invicta Watch Group. Love 'em or hate 'em, Invicta bought controlling interest of Shop HQ and is poised to dominate the watch industry as they have the perfect platform of network television to sell their watches. How high can Invicta go?

I think the watch snobs are just miffed because a company can produce a nice quality, stylish watch for around $100 and these same people spent 6 months worth of mortgage payments to slap something on their wrist to impress others who simply couldn't give a sh*t! Ten Invictas in my collection and love them all. Thanks for the honesty.

i tend to buy whatever really catches my eye.I am an invicta collector with 35 watches, but in total i have 100 watches with the other 65 watches being made by other manufacturers, Movado....etc. Invicta should make more smaller watches for men as I tend to go with watches between 42 and 48mm. whatsonthewrist i’m looking forward to them making more with automatic Swiss movements as well...they swing back and forth from using Swiss autos to changing similar models to lower grade Hattori quartz, Mid grade Ronda, and like you said NH35. The higher end Swiss autos sell out quick when they are introduced outfitted with one. They are fun for the most part and some have outstanding craftsmanship, but those are more in the $1,000 Swiss auto/sapphire crystal category. Personally, after having a Rolex and Omega I have gone years without owning an Invicta. I couldn’t find a reasons to replace what I truly love on wrist for a typical Invicta. Recently an interest sparked to wear something fun with designs emulating watches i could never afford.

Wow, Rich. a great comment! You have touched all the points about Invicta and illustrated it better than most of us could. And I also agree with you 100%. I am sure that most of micro brand watch companies hate Invicta, but deep down inside, most of them would envy the company "hatefully" & "zealously". As you said, Invicta is playing their own game and let the fans follow their games and also enjoy it as much as they can. We, a watch aficionados, can hate them as we would like, but at the end, it is a business, a very lucrative one for Invicta, and they are setting their own fashions and trends. And no one has the right to say "it is wrong or right". Most of us tend to forget that IT IS A BUSINESS and at the end, the brand is most likely to be judged by their financial success and how widely it is being accepted. And Invicta is best at their own games. So far, no others can touch them. thanks Rich and have a great day.

I never considered buying an Invicta. Just bored and scrolling through the website one day I realized just how many mind boggling designs they have that no one else even comes close to. Even the most abhorrent models could look good on some people with certain wardrobes. I decided to try a 50mm black sea spider based model 26749 Marvel Black Panther for 80 bucks just to see for myself. IMHO it really is a good looking watch. All the functions work perfectly. The case and dial finishing are really quite impressive and the band is cool AF. I set the Hattori Seiko quartz movement the day it was received to the online Atomic Clock. It is now one year later and is only off maybe 2 or 3 seconds. Sure It doesn't have hacking, a real chrono second hand, no month tracking for the date, and the clasp is a little tinny, but what can you really expect for 80 whole dollars. It's a very big and heavy watch that felt awkward in the beginning, but only took about a month or so to get used to. This watch taught me that I like em big. I still wear it nearly everyday and I absolutely love it, How do they do it? Amazing!

In truth I don't like every watch or collection Invicta makes, and I don't agree with all of the design or marketing things they do. They are my fav brand, and I don't really understand the haters entirely, although even they get a good point in now and then. I don't think the oversized watches are going away and I'm glad for it.... the days of hiding your favourite watch under your cuff are long gone. Big, bold, and creatively designed watches will always be popular with a percentage of enthusiasts. Loved the video...said the new subscriber. Keep em' comin !!!

Hi Rich, new subscriber here and great commentary! I have had many watches over the years from Rolex on down and do own several Invicta watches. My personal opinion is that if you get a quality movement in a case and bracelet/band made of quality materials that can be serviced/repaired it qualifies as a good watch. I was a bit put off by Invictas decision a couple of years ago to not sell parts to the general public thus forcing owners to send their watch to them if replacement parts are required. We will just have to see how that plays out over time I guess. Keep up the great work!

Hi, Steve. I think part of their plan to have their customers send in their watches for repair was to sell them on the upgrade program. It was almost like a subscription with the ability to change out watches for newer models.

@@whatsonthewrist Hi Rich, thats very interesting and I had not heard that! Still, it sucks for those of us that can do repairs or would prefer not to have to pay shipping and wait for them to fix and return. Plus the many horror stories I’ve heard about folks finally getting their watch back after a long wait only to find a new problem or just quality control issues on reassembly. I know there are those that will say “it’s just an Invicta” but I like to try to keep my watches in as good of shape as I can and would like to mitigate others that it’s not that important to from working on my watch. I'm always reading about how poor Invicta quality is on forums etc, but I don't think these posts are being made by people who actually own Invicta watches. I agree that their marketing strategy and many of their models are rather tasteless, but I have been wearing Pro Divers since 2000 and they are great watches. I first bought an 8926OB because I couldn't afford a Submariner. When I finally owned a Submariner, I still wore my Invicta as a 'stunt double' for situations where it would not be prudent to wear a Rolex. That first one lasted ten years, and only died when my girlfriend at the time wore it in the bath with the crown pulled out. I immediately replaced it, and this one is still working perfectly another ten years later. I just bought the same watch in quartz to use as a 'beater', and the quality is great on that one too.

Thanks for the correction that some are indeed Swiss made. Years back they started stating Swiss Movement, or removing Swiss references entirely. I have a few with genuine sapphire, ETA movements, Selitta as well. Glad to see someone understands their success. Their lume still sucks and still some QC issues, but they still own the market on innovative designs at very low prices. As for watch size, tiny case lovers are just biased, lol. Lots of elite brands have large cases. Plenty of folks, myself included, can appreciate Invicta alongside other offerings, so it's not a case of either being a dedicated fan or a snobby hater. And many, like me, would rather spread fifty or sixty grand over a large range of watches, rather than only have two or five watches to wear. Among my several hundred watches, I have well over 30 different brands, from one time Micro releases, to Swatch Group brands, on up to Oris, Breitling, and more. Like a lot of watch enthusiasts, I started with Invicta and learned as I went along. Nice to see someone able to give credit where credit is due. Well done! 👍👍👍

@@whatsonthewrist Yup, agreed, and this is one of the most refreshing looks at Invicta I've seen on YT. I actually nearly quit the hobby after running into ridiculous snobbery, years ago. Found a different forum to join, where members could appreciate all enthusiasts, and rediscovered my passion. So, never underestimate your impact, good sir. Honest, unbiased feedback for people trying to learn about watches makes a big difference, which makes your presentation even more valued. I remember getting a Seiko 5, having been told it was the "only" proper entry level automatic, and, geez, my Invictas, for nearly half the cost, cased up the same movement so much better. While their wilder watches get the most attention as a supposedly negative representation of the brand, they have a lot of very tame options as well. I've always raised the same issue to detractors, that, despite negativity within a small circle of people who'd like to think they represent the entire watch world, the reality of Invicta's ongoing business success certainly proves that they're doing something right, despite their imperfections. Again, great video!

I started out with the Doxa orange at $2-3k and arrived at the Invicta orange. The watch undeniably takes several ques from the Seiko pogue but it is entirely it's own watch also. Comes with a decent ss bracelet and will also wear a olive canvas strap. It's a tool watch. One of their watches that arguably crosses over into the conventional watch world. @@whatsonthewrist oh I know - Glycine is a recent purchase (within the watch community I know there is some concern which direction Invicta might take the brand in, styles size and marketing, given Glycines heritage and different reputation to Invicta). I also know Invictas original Swiss heritage before being purchased and rebranded by Eyal Lalo in 1991 and now headquartered in Hollywood Florida. Although as you pointed out they still heavily suggest a continuing strong swiss association - somewhat dubious in my opinion - much like the retail pricing. Like I said since you were able to find all the other information I was curious for more. My assumption (possibly incorrect) is that the vast majority of sales are in the U.S. (based on their HQ location, recent shopping channel purchase, watch styles and sizes, watch partners/promotions, celebrity partners and U.S. based cruise). Again, right or wrong, they strike me as to the watch community what Walmart is to the retail community, both in terms of what they offer and the general demographics they cater their offerings to (I also know there are exceptions) - both highly successful businesses btw. I was curious if you had information in your research to confirm or disprove my impressions. All the above being said their designs are among the most avante gard and innovative and no one can question the brands success.

Yes and being able to put an automatic NH35 on your wrist for less than the initial $30 charge & 5 more payments under $20 is something everyone can afford. They also sell seiko & citizen watches. Ive bought the Turtle & the samurai on there 6 value pay. Its economically convenient. ⏰

Hey, Carl. Absolutely that value pay makes it almost impossible to resist. Interest free and it’s not a layaway. Congrats on your purchases. 👊

whatsonthewrist most people dont realize they sell many watch brands on the evine HQ website. Just type in evine seiko or what ever brand and the selection is surprising. Tks for all your videos bro

Yes I’m aware. I made a video awhile back about some great deals and brands the home shopping network carries. I saw a platinum Ralph Lauren for super low. Not a watch that I’ve been eyeing but it’s platinum. Thanks, Carl. 👀

As a owner of 6 Glycine's, vintage Airman, bronze combat sub etc. Just hope Invicta dosen't mess them up.

@Burdine. At least the Invicta Group also owns Glycine so you may be safe there.

Bro, I agree with you. Invicta is just not for me. I may like bigger watches, yet for me, that is 42-44mm.

Hey, Greg! Yeah Invicta is not for me for the most part but they don’t need me because they have almost everyone else. They are one of the smartest and powerful watch companies. Period. Their licensing deals with Marvel, DC Comics, the US Army, the NFL, Disney etc makes them credible enough. Thanks, brother. 👊

Question....what is the origin of the traditional watch sizing guide? When and where did it originate ??? As a horological addict it's a question I can't find an answer to...and it drives me crazy. (well...MORE crazy)

Hi, F Josey. I read awhile back the first wrist watch was made around 1868 for someone of royalty, a she, by Patek Philippe. Then ever since then for men around 33mm or so. 33-36 have remained the “traditional” size is my guess. Thanks for the interesting question. 👌

@@whatsonthewrist Elizabeth 1 was given the very first wristwatch in 1571. It was a one off. 1868 was the year that pocket watches went into mass production and were accessible to the average person. No, I'm looking for a date when the present sizing guide was created. I know it was after WW2, but looking for the year it was first used/ignored.

I’m assuming lots of people already caught this, but 1900 x 100 = 190,000. If the are paying $200, the total is closer to $380,000.
