Im so excited to make this but i dont quite understand the beginning part after the magic circle when building up the sort of cone shape, am i supposed to be doing a 2dc into the same stitch or do i do them into separate stitches and then an increase? Im really lost and i couldnt tell in the video how its supposed to be done

For row 2, are you only chaining 2 up for the increase in the beginning or also when we repeat the pattern? If we are supposed to repeatedly chain 2, where are we supposed to put them? Because if I add them to the top of my last dc, and then dc into the next stitch to complete my increase, it creates a big hole. When I chain 2 into the next stitch and then dc into the same stitch, it creates a dent in my row. Sad. If you understand my queries, I‘d REALLY appreciate some help 😅

You would have a total of 22 rows from the very beginning of the point down to your final row! so not adding 22, just doing 6 more rows after row 16!

Yes! You can repeat the last round before the flat rows as many times as you like before working the flat rows!

before the brim when you’re working up the rows of double crochet, when starting a new row should you chain 2 and skip the first stitch, or work into the second one ?

the chain 2 counts as a dc in this pattern! so you skip the first stitch since the ch2 is basically acting as a dc!

I want to make this hat so bad, but I don’t understand the first fifteen rounds 😭😭 I haven’t really ventured into increases with double crouchets yet, and I’ve interpreted the *inc, 5dc*, for example, as five double crochets in the same stitch as the increase (?) I end up with these big holes on the cone and I don’t know if that’s what’s supposed to happen at all,,,

inc means two double crochets in the same stitch, then the comma means "end of increase", then you do 5 normal double crochets in a row (one dc into each of the next 5 dcs). hope this helps!

You could make a basic beanie and then sew on two of the cones!

You will need three pieces, but you can choose to use only two colors if you want to!

I couldn't really figure out how to do the decrease on the 18th row... the previous row had 16 stitches total, and the 18th row calls for 8 stitches, but in the video you still work into each stitch anyway?? :(

you can find a double crochet decrease tutorial to follow for that row! it looks like i work into every stitch because the dc dec is basically merging two dc into one, so you have two "bottoms" of dcs and one "top", effectively halving the number of stitches

Hi! This is a longshot here but would you have any advice on editing/shrinking down this pattern to something closer to doll sized? Im working on an amigurumi project and this jester had design seems great for it, minus the fact it is made for human sized humans and not a slightly larger than usual tennis ball sized die (dont question it) but I can see myself struggling to attempt to shrink this, and I might as well shoot my shot and ask if the pattern creator has any advice lol. Either way though this seems like a really good pattern! I'll probably make a human sized one for myself at some point too lol

Microcrochet would be your best option! I would say make a swatch of one of the points with a very small hook and very thin yarn, and see if it covers 1/3 of your doll's head! Though it may be even easier to find a sewing pattern for a doll and shrink it on the computer to print and use :)

you can likely find a beanie pattern for the size of yarn you want to use, and then add the "cones" from this pattern to either side :)

@@_FatNuggets_ yes! just follow my pattern for the first set of rounds before we start working in flat rows, fasten off with a tail and then sew those onto your beanie :)
