I’m a designer and one of the things you need to understand when you’re in a creative career is that not everyone is going to like what you make at the end of the day no matter how much time, work, energy and dedication you pour into it. People has different opinions and that is just a simple fact of life. I would never call a fellow designer’s work hideous out loud even if I did feel that way because I know how hard they have worked and their work not being my taste is irrelevant. But most people doesn’t know what it takes to create things or receive criticism often so they will speak their mind without much thought and that is ok by me, as long as my work has the standards I have imposed myself and I am satisfied with the end result, I’m happy.

Yes, I made that mistake 30 years ago. I had a difficult childhood with everybody saying I was a looser, except for my grandma. Coming from an actually so-called high class family, circumstances had it that we were very poor and my family had me in iron handcuffs. They married me off to such an a..h.le, 11 year older than me, stinking rich and decorating himself with me and my inherited title. And my family literally sold me since from then on, they lived in style. And I thought this was all right. He did the same with me than this guy here. I ended up with a dress I hated but noone dared to challenge him, the man with the big money. And me silly thought that it was the way it should be because who was I to doubt him? My life with him was hell.

E C That’s a good idea if everyone is okay with not trying both. I use to be a wedding cake decorator and once had a bride order a wedding cake with each tier being a different flavor. Chocolate, vanilla, and the couples tier was red velvet. That was fine until the cake was cut at the reception and several guests demanded they try every cake flavor including the red velvet one. Some of those guests got so upset they stormed out of the venue over this. I wouldn’t be surprised if they used the wedding cake as a reason not to speak to anyone.

We lived and worked 1 hr north, but was going to have the ceremony in my husband's hometown. I went back 3 times to make sure they were able to make red velvet, each time they assured me they could. Called them about a week ahead to again confirm.....at the reception we cut into our cake...only to find it was vanilla...all 3 layers. If I didn't have so much going on with moving and changing jobs, I should have refused to pay for entire cost...maybe just half. Too bad they didn't have Yelp and other review forums back then.
