The difference is Wheel of Fortune Vanna and Pat were contestants playing for charity. Jeopardy was regular contestants that got lucky enough to play with Pat Sajak hosting. With it being unusual, the Champion for that night on Jeopardy only won $1000.

In St. Louis, Alex Trebek came on at 6:30 p.m. and Pat Sajak came on at 3:30 p.m. that day in 1997.

IIRC, they did the same thing in Evansville, IN on WFIE (also on Central time), with Jeopardy airing in the afternoon and Wheel airing at 6:30 CT before primetime started. Of course, WTWO in Terre Haute (on Eastern standard time year round prior to 2006, but airing primetime from 8-11 even in summer) would air Wheel at 7 and Jeopardy at 7:30 followed by primetime at 8. Growing up in Vincennes, IN, halfway between Evansville and Terre Haute, you could watch either show twice and people not working or at school would already know the answers the second time.

And to this day, KSDK still airs Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune at those exact same times.

The 4:30, where JEOPARDY! originally was until 1995 when Show Me St. Louis premiered at 3pm and it moved up to 3:30 after Show Me, is a new episode and it follows the 4pm news. These days, 3:30 JEOPARDY! follows Inside Edition like it does on WLS in Chicago.

I remember this. Wow, it's been over 20 years! Pat Sajack hosted Jeopardy. Since Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! are next door neighbors as well as both shows made by Merv Griffin, it's easy to manage.

I’ve seen some videos of him guest-hosting on ‘Wheel of Fortune’ in the 1980s, where he was substituting for Chuck Woolery and Pat Sajak. Additionally, I watched him as a contestant during the Halloween week in 2000, where he dressed up as something else.
