the story of the aiel is one of the saddest in the wheel of time, but also of triumph. I don't know if by design but Jordan showed the Age of legends society to be rotten to the core even before contact with the 'dark one' (just like lucas inadvertently showed the jedi & the old republic to be quite evil themselves). the aiel are a 'slave race' prob bio-engineered by aes sedai to serve them, naive as children, brainwashed to follow the 'way of the leaf'. the 'way' is not some ideal life philosophy! slaves are forbidden to possess weapons, they are not allowed to defend themseves, they cannot harm their masters! in a 'utopia' where 'citizens' don't do 'labor', well, somebody's going to do it (aiel, nyms, ogier, later the soldier-class). and to make matters worse, the aes sedai gave them the heavy burden of protecting 'aes sedai things' without teaching them to protect themselves! and still have the gall to brainwash them that they sinned against the aes sedai by failing them and that their wandering is their punishment!? it was the aes sedai who threw them under the bus!

The series DID tell us how the Tinkers will find their lost song. All they have to do is gain permission to step in the glass-columns of Rhuidean, --which they can since they do have Aiel genetics in them---and they will hear it. Last I remember, Elayne was in possession of a Ter'angreal which Aviendha's Talent of 'Ter'angreal-reading'----revealed a Ter'angreal that needed a song to activate it. So we need a Tinker to visit Rhuidean and Elayne to make the connection and gift that particular Ter'angreal to the Tinkers' usage.
@A76noname4 жыл бұрын
Jordan confirmed they can never find THE Song because it doesn't actually exist in the first place. What they were originally looking for was an idea of better times when they could sing their songs freely without suffering and hardship, but along the years that morphed into an idea of a single mythical Song that would make everything better. Even if you let them heard the songs of growing they would just nod and say the songs were nice, but they wouldn't recognize them as the Song they are looking for, because they got it all backwards. They think that a Song will lead to good times, when actually it's the good times that lead to the singing, and that's why they can never find what they are looking for.
@figjam95303 жыл бұрын
@@A76noname that sounds about right. early in the books (EotW i believe) Loial remarks that Ogier taught their treesongs to Tinkers and the Tinkers weren't overly impressed. considering that treesongs are clearly at least derived from the old growing songs from the age of legends, the Tinkers should have gone nuts over them if it was an actual "song" they were looking for.

unlikely. Loial remarks in the books that Ogier taught some "treesongs" to Tinkers and they weren't overly impressed. treesongs appear to be, functionally, no different to growing songs.
@AverageAwesomeDude3 жыл бұрын
Originally it probably was, but The Song became more a philosophical concept for them an unachievable goal that motivates the Tinker culture. I don’t remember if it was Jordan or Sanderson who said it but even if The Growing Song Rand learns by the end is “The Song” or at least the song that originated the concept the vast majority of the Tinkers wouldn’t accept it as such since The Song had become something much greater to their culture than it originally was
@personpersonson99753 жыл бұрын
@@figjam9530 Just because they didn't accept those songs as what they were looking for doesn't mean that it wasn't what originally inspired the search. Almost by definition they don't know what they're looking for, so how do they know if they've found it?

It's not surprising that the aiel curbstomped the western sword wielders, as they say a novice with a spear can hold off even a middling swordsman Combine this with incredibly harsh environmental conditions and training and mastery on a level never before seen with other cultures, and you get your fierce fremen er I mean desert warriors

Plus, Aiel are basically straight up ninjas in addition to being the Fremen of WOT. Their mastery of stealth, fieldcraft and martial skill puts them in the category of shinobi. Robert Jordan pretty much thought of them as desert dwelling Celtic ninjas.

@@pintpullinggeek so far its pretty good, im on book 2 in publishing order. maybe its aging a bit? but a few of the character behaviors is bothering me a bit; i often have issues with this character trope in any show or books, which is when the characters reasoning/intelligence drops sharply for no apparently reason aside from prolonging conflict that are entirely unreasonable. but im giving it the benefit of the doubt, usually a few books into a long series is when a writer really gets into their stride. so will see.
