I love the potentials of Nynaeve with a sword. In TGH ch18 she even tells Siuan that she’d rather have a sword because there’s someone she’d like to use it on (Lan). In CoT ch23 she’s watching Lan practice with another warder. She’s sitting on a bench, bouncing up and down, mouthing words of encouragement, and swinging her arms as if to imitate Lan’s moves…(doing her best DanceMom impersonation). The idea of her learning the sword means that she has an alternate form of defense and is able to practice with Lan and Rand, likely not at their level, but it can further strengthen their bonds. It may give her access to the flame and the void (rather than that dumb opening flower), which she might be able to access in that moment when she breaks her block. In the clip, it looks like she’s practicing with Ihvon and Maksim. She spent a month traveling with them and eating dinner at their fire every night, so they likely have developed a good friendship. The warders could be training her for her protection (given her block and what happened to Mo) so that Lan does not have to worry about her quite so much, to help her work through her frustration with her difficulties channeling, and/or to help her get angry so she can channel. The wonder girls are in the Tower training for months. Given Nyn’s limitations with channeling, she’s bound to spend some of her time learning other useful skills. And did I mention Lan and Nynaeve sword fighting together? 🔥🔥🔥⚔️

I think it may be a little like that, but I'm leaning toward it being done by the Aes Sedai to make her angry so she gets mad enough to channel around her block. They're going to try to do a lot less spanking and so on in the show, but they need to show off her block.

It really makes me think...by what process did the writers' room come to the result that they needed to wrote a storyline where Nynaeve trains in the sword? Or why Perrin carries a sword? There surely were alternative ways to convey whatever plot or emotion they were going for without writing themselves into this position. I will wait to see it in the episode, but, much like Lan's mourning scene in S1, the level of justification and the quality of writing for us to get to that moment needs to be on a level I haven't seen the screenwriting reach. P.s. If you are planning a rewatch, I would recommend giving my fan edit a spin. I cut the season into a movie format and it is a lot more focused way to experience the story.
