That episode feels unnecessary to those of us who’ve read the books, where Jordan accomplished the same thing over several books. However, while you might’ve been able to get away shrinking it a bit, showing that impact was incredibly important for setting up elements of the world and planting seeds for something coming so that they’ll hit hard enough, even for people who only watched the show. Alanna bonding Rand while acting irrationally after losing her warded and Lan’s issues after losing Moiraine need a degree of setting up to really have the right impact with viewers, and that episode planted those seeds. If the show doesn’t end up using these plot elements, yes, that episode will be a lot less important. However, if they are included, as they should be, it’s vital to set up just how brutal losing that link is

I found this helpful actually for S2 of WOT.. Rings of power I just CANNOT. It is horribly done in almost every regard, whereas WoT seems to have some good acting, good wardrobes, and good worldbuilding (despite too much garish color aometimes). The main issue with WoT is just the writing which is the heart of a story but can also be balanced out by other things. RoP is just bad bad bad. plus I feel more attached to the world than WOT. But with WOT I watched maybe 2-3 episodes of season one, then readjusted my expectations and I have to admit I actually enjoyed S2, and watched maybe half the episodes and skimmed the other half

3:11 - But there is also only so much that can be done with so few episodes. I still genuinely believe that if the WoT tv series had a couple more episodes every season, that would really help a lot with how much time we got to spend focusing on the epic-ness and world/character moments and such. Interview With The Vampire is a tv show that is managing to do pretty phenomenally with only 7 to 8 eps per season, and I still find myself sometimes wishing it was doing even more[ with characters and world/lore/etc], even though there is pretty much zero feasible way that it could be without either more episodes or like 1½hr long eps. Most likely, it's visually a way many shows and movies get around this as in books we know it's the "mind" that goes back to different bodies but visually that's not so easy to instill. Often times it's even more of a "this isn't how he looks to everyone else, but for our sake so we can tell, it's all him" situation. It honestly makes sense as a visual way to get the point across as there's not really any narrative explanation of what's happening until after and it would confuse new viewers way too much if Rand just walked through pillars looking pained and we kept getting flash backs of random people we have no connection to.

@mjbinon9 сағат бұрын
Both of those things are true. Mat going to Rhuidean is absolutely not important, only a specific object is important, and that object could be located anywhere else (such as in the Tower) in this adaptation and not change anything (that being said, there is ZERO chance they implement that object IMO - snakes and foxes are just too abstract for this TV show - they'll find some other way to implement Mat's changes). And Callandor is also unimportant. It's just a MacGuffin. Its primary purpose - identification of the Dragon - was already removed, and anything else it does during the later parts of the books can easily be adapted for some other MacGuffin (Chodan Kal or otherwise) or even be introduced later, since it spends 3/4 of the books just stuck in the ground serving nothing.

As a point of contrast, in Gladiator (the first one), whn we first see Rome, it's with Commodus and Senators; we can see it's grand, but it's a place they've always known and always held power and influence. It's not new. When Proximo's gladiators arrive, Maximus has never been to Rome; Juba just syays "I didn't know men could build such things", while the camera work empasizes how awesome - in the old sense of the word - nature of the city, and the Colliseum are to the newcomers. But WoT has been showing us the Westlands through the experienced, jaded viewpoint so much more. EDIT: Also, while crowns can and do vary in form, with 'lesser' royals and nobility wearing less elaborate headgear than the monarch. Maybe the actual rose crown of Andor is waaaaaaaaaay fancier.

Season 4 is reportedly going to be greenlit only if Season 3 is a success. Will the Last Battle be over before it has started? Only "Time Time Time" will tell.

I think spoiler? For Matt they could use the arches (3 questions) as a gateway to have him meet rand in the waste.

As a non-book fan who has been spoiled by a book reader, I can safely say I hated series 1, loved series 2, and I am really exited for the 3rd instalment. Also had they made the Emond's field folk teenagers it would have been hard for adult audiences to follow the show. I prefer them as adults; though I can understand why book readers dislike that idea.

The boys were also 20 in the books. They just had a sheltered upbringing in a very conservative community. I initially thought that they were 15/16 in the first book because of how naive and immature they were.
@leza44535 сағат бұрын
Yeah and later on they feel so mature (esp Rand and Egwene) that I though 6-7 years must have passed and was surprised that canoncially, it was two.
@undertone83672 сағат бұрын
@@leza4453 the whole series takes place in a ridiculously short period of time. It feels like 5 years instead of 2.

The whole series hasn't gone below a 7 for me, I don't care what anybody says, because they actually showed us Logain being a Badass instead of sulking around a tower.

I keep pointing out that in the 'bubble of evil' scene the fire weaves SEEM to not have taint mixed in and therefore seem to be lady-weaves.

I read all the books a few years ago I wish you could give me more details in the scenes you're talking about because you keep being so vague (i get it to avoid spoilers) and so hard to figure out what part of the book you talking about

It's amazing how the whole trajectory of the series changed when the Matt actor, (Barney?) resigned. The first 6 episodes of S1 were pretty faithful to the book. Then he left, before filming ended. Massive rewrite. From there it went downhill and half of S2 was spent trying to get everyone back on track while moving the story forward. Prime & Sony seem adamant on only allowing 8 episodes, in a 60 minute time frame. I'm hoping there will be no more disruptions and S3 will be a rousing succcess

I really wanted the tv series to be how I imagined the books. But unfortunately the differences are huge. I no longer recommend the tv series as it's a poor representation of the books. It is still a decent show in itself, it is just not the same for me .

This show is NOT anything even remotely close to the books. They just took the characters names and a few plot points and scrapped the rest. Yes I’ll still be hate watching

12:39 the Aiel look sort of "video game" Badass but whenever i see their pants i cringe because its like the sort of tight pants i thought would be so cool as a kid and then you wear tight pants and realize they are absolutely horrible for moving around.

I might be wrong, but didn't he say in his inner monologue in the books that he probably would have married Layla if they hadn't left. So if they aged the characters up as if they'd just been there another 2 years, it makes sense that he'd be married. In the same way Rand and Egwene got a lot more intimate than they were in the books over the Extra time. In the same way Mat grew out of pranks and started being more of a guardian for his sisters.
@leoramirez33562 сағат бұрын
He did had some feelings for Layla and dreamed of marrying her, and she reciprocated those feelings but they both let it go. As for aging up the characters, its only Egg and Elayne since they were 16-17 and the boys where 19ish. The writing team just made them less sheltered, or in Mat's case, butchered his parents to get him some pity points and make him likeable
@ryandagey5023 сағат бұрын
Right ty for your commentary, I agree 💯 that Rand & Egwene would not be engaging in the way they are in the books. I want to like the show, I really do man but from that first scene with them in bed, suffice to say I'm struggling too brother

I watched the first season when it came out, and not having read the books it couldn't disappoint me in any way, but it was kind of whatever, and I basically forgot about the show's existence. By chance I watched season 2 about a month ago, but still don't know what to think. The actors are decent I think, but I struggle to connect to any of the characters properly. I think I like Rand, and Lanfear is well done , and I think Nyneave is a super annoying character, but aside from that I barely have any emotions about the show. I hope I remember the show again when season 3 comes out and that it'll become a bit more memorable.
@syracho29769 сағат бұрын
I still think the only way they can do the show justice is having 80 minute episodes and having at least 12 of them per book.
