James you mentioned the torque specification when you were putting the tires back on. Do you know of a quick reference source where 991.1 owners can verify what their torque specs are? Thanks. Oh and keep up the great videos.
@AutoAmateur4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Karl!! The correct torque for the 991.1 is 118 ft. lbs. The best place to look is always you’re user manual in true glove box, believe it or not. Otherwise you’re at the mercy of trying to figure out who to believe online across the various websites and forums.

The Negatives The main issue with a wheel spacer is that it moves the wheel to a wider position whilst the rest of the suspension arms remain in the same place. In particular, the king pin inclination axis remains in the same place. Therefore, fitting a wheel spacer moves the wheel outboard and alters the scrub radius of the car. It is important to know whether your car currently has negative or positive scrub radius and ideally how much it has. Fitting a wheel spacer will increase the positive scrub radius at the front wheels which has some unfavorable consequences. If your car already has a bit of positive scrub radius then the wheel spacer will increase it. An increase in positive scrub radius increases the forces on the steering rack under braking conditions. Any bumps in the road will also be amplified through the steering wheel, making the steering jerky and more unpredictable. Twitching wheels when braking can cause the tire to lose grip and ultimately can cause the wheels to lock up and slide. An increase in positive scrub radius also causes the wheel to gain positive camber when the wheels are being turned, reducing grip in corners on the front wheels and producing understeer.If your car has the more favorable set up of negative scrub radius then installing a wheel spacer can cause bigger issues. The outward movement of the wheel can make a negative scrub radius become zero. This is the worst position for it to be in. A zero scrub radius can cause squirm. This is where a scrubbing action occurs on both front tyres in opposite directions which can create unpredictable handling in corners and can lead to understeer too. Secondly, installing wheel spacers on a car increases the leverage on the wheel bearing. The larger the spacer, the larger the leverage becomes. This reduces the life of the wheel bearing as they are not made to take leverage forces and can therefore wear faster, increasing rolling resistance and power loss of the car. Finally, the wheel spacer moves the wheel further away from the damper mounting point. This means that the wheel will have a larger effect upon the damper and will act upon it with more leverage. This effectively makes the spring and damper softer and less effective on the wheel. This means that the car can roll more on corner entry and exit and feel generally softer out on track or on the road.

Hey my friend on this one I’m iffy, the reason being as I’m still under warranty so before I do anything I ask my local Porsche Tech on there Opinion He explained by adding a spacer it changes slightly the center of how the wheel barring rides in its race Thus causing improper wear. Also his concerns was on the Active Rear Wheel Steering system could improperly wear. And lead to ultimately failure Sense I’m not an Engineer I heeded his advice. Ps: When jacking up the car don’t forget the jack pad adapters I’ve forgot and disfigured the jack point.

EMBLEM UPDATE!! As I said before I have been struggling with commitment on color scheme. It turns out that I happen to work with someone who has a side business making decals and such. For a small fee he can make me any color combo I request. YES! I can “test” my ideas without commitment and the beauty part is I end up with high quality Porsche emblem decals. Still don’t know how I am going to do the real deal but I first have to commit. Trust me! The EMBLEM lives on. Thanks again for gifting it me.

That’s a great question and I would say yes, a little more. I certainly noticed a slight increase in crud on the side of my 997. I’m expecting the same with my 991.

Hi James, I have the 991.1 s, do they give any better performance or is it more aesthetic? Also do you loose the locking wheel nut ?
@AutoAmateur4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Anecdotally I’ve heard they can make your drive feel more grounded, like they could help with handling. I don’t know if this is true or not though. You need longer bolts, so yes, you would lose your locking wheel nut unless you can get a longer one from Porsche.

Hi James, Thank you for doing this videos, they keep us informed and entertained! I have a question regarding 991.2 C2 rear wheels (ET 76). Can I go and install 991.2 C4 rear wheels (ET 56)? Front wheels specs are the same in both C2 and C4. Thank you for your thoughts in advance! Martin
@AutoAmateur9 ай бұрын
Hey Martin! Yes, you should be fine. The only thing you need to consider is that the C4 is the wide body and C2 is the narrow body. I believe the rear wheels in the 991.2 C4 are an inch wider than the front wheels, in which case they will sit wider on your 991.2 C2. Having said that, I have the same thing going on with my 991.2 C2 (which is a narrow body) and the RS Syder wheels I just installed on them have the same inch wider rears. They fill the wheel arch perfectly and look pretty awesome / meaty on my car. I love them.

Why didn’t you use the other two (2) screws to hold the spacer in place (and flush)?

The rotor only has two screw holes. One to keep the rotor to the hub, the other to be used for the spacer (or just another screw for the rotor).
