When I first got my chair one of the first places I asked to go to was Ikea, it was a great place to learn how to control my Smart Drive. I'm from Pennsylvania, USA and we have a couple around here. The one local to me has a covered parking area with plenty of handicapped parking. Not sure why but it's sort of become a place to go and spend time on a rainy Saturday.

My local Ikea also has wheelchairs you can borrow, which is great for me. I don't have my own yet but for longer adventures, it certainly helps. I have been using my rollator the past few times, but I might borrow a wheelchair next time. I love how things are just ... easy there. And the food is affordable, too. Great place for a rainy Saturday.

Ha! I had Problems with the toilet door in ikea, too! But I couldn't even figure out how to close it... In general, I found ikea great for accessibility, too! But I have to say, I envy you for having a husband that seems to enjoy ikea! Mine hates it with a passion and is already in a grumpy mood when we get in the car to go there... (which is why I knew he REALLY loves me when one year he made me a birthday gift that he needed a piece from ikea for 😉)

Yup those annoying lose carpets in IKEA has made me trip and or fall a couple of times. I heard "just lift your feet then you won't trip" to many times, well technically i do, my lower body just doesn't always cooperate due to a spinal injury. And yes IKEA is exhausting to visit but oh so much fun. I go to the IKEA in Odense or Århus, Denmark. Both stores is about 90 minutes away from me.

We don't have an IKEA in Alaska. The closest one is in Seattle, Washington, which is a 4 hour plane flight away. I've never actually been to one. I was most surprised at how inexpensive everything was. I think they charge a lot more in the US based on what friends have told me

Love over reindeer balls. 💕🤣. “Stay with me Shawn, we’re nearly there!” That’s how I felt the one time I went to Ikea lol. A lot of great accessible stuff there, though. They need to make those tiny “children’s” kitchens real and functional. I would be all about that. I went to Ikea in Minnesota in the U.S.

Ikea is so easy to get around. I use the Ikea app so I can check stock availability (and where to pick it up from) and see if there’s any offers with the ikea family card. I use the apps shopping list to save what I’m looking to buy. 🤗🥰 Make sure to pick up the store map so you can use the short cuts to get through the store quicker 😉 to save you from “Ikea fever” 😂🤣😂🥰

I live in Sweden and love IKEA it is really accessible, here on our IKEA they often have different events, I have been to several of them, but the best was when we got to sleep over in IKEA, it was a real funny event, we got food (not meatballs 😆) dessert, candy, and we watched a movie. Every family got one of rooms to sleep in each. And when we woke up we had breakfast and we got a big goodiebag each.

I recently moved to about 10min away from an IKEA. It’s one of our favorite date night spots when we can afford it. It can be very overstimulating and my power chair does not fit in about half of the displays. Still, it’s fun and much more accessible than most stores/shops.

Here in Budapest, Hungary we have wheelchairs in IKEA which we can rent out and it is great since I do not use one fulltime. And everything is accessible too.
@lizvdp80664 жыл бұрын
One of the first stores I went to when I got my wheelchair was IKEA and it was indeed very accessible and staff was always ready to help me out and even asked the moment I got in if I wanted a wheelchair cart to do my shopping (which I declined, because I was with my mother who doesn't have any disabilities). Once I got my service dog they were very accessible for him as well! They know the law on service animals so well and even stepped up when someone was harassing us because of my service dog. And I am actually speaking about three different IKEA stores who were all equally helpful and knowledgeable about disabilities . The stores I am talking about are Zaventem, Wilrijk and Breda, so Belgium and The Netherlands. Both countries where accessibility and awareness about disabilities and service dogs still needs quite some work, but IKEA is always awesome to us!

I wondered when you said "London" whether it would be IKEA in Wembley. My late grandad used to work on that site when it was Ascot Boilers. I couldn't get into many of those "rooms" because of my unbendy knees. I would get stuck and frustrated with all that superfluous furniture. Are the measurements in real measures as well as Metric? I can't visualise in Metric, only feet and inches.

My nearest IKEA is in Gothenburg which is about an hours drive away, or even a bit more as the IKEA is in a suburb on the for me far side of Gothenburg. I actually haven’t been to IKEA at all for about 9 years now, last time I went was in Malmö as I actually lived right next to the huge IKEA they opened in Svågertorp in like 2009 or so, I lived in the area when the store was being built, so once it opened I did stop by at times after work or in the weekend as it was walking distance from home. Most exotic IKEA I’ve been to though would be Shanghai! And yes, I did try the meatballs there just for fun, tasted like in IKEA here except for the fries with them, meatballs should be eaten with mash or plain potatoes (if liking potatoes) or with pasta, rice works as well if you make a lot of gravy, but fries is a no go Lol IKEA meatballs are nothing like the home cooked Swedish meatballs, but they’re good for what it is: a very inexpensive and satisfying and convenient meal. I’d often buy the IKEA meatballs and have at home while living next to IKEA in Malmö because it was so convenient to just warm some meatballs and cook some pasta after getting back from work (and I had 1,5-2 hours commute home at the time), the IKEA hash browns are pretty incredible too, can highly recommend them if you have the ability to bring home frozen foods from the food court. At Christmas if you can find it in the food court, Julmust is the nectar of gods! I really should try to go to IKEA during or after the holidays, even with the drive to get there (I don’t travel well any longer) as I’m moving now and know there are bits and bobs I do need to buy for my new home and I can’t really find all of it in other shops. Really need to get some baskets and stuff for easier storage and organizing in closet, drawers and shelves

Kitchen cupboards/worktops are not fitted at different heights and should be. Once, I delivered a large amount of kitchen units to a billionaires home. His wife was five foot tall. All the units were made to suit her height. This could be applied to wheelchair users, too. (UK)

Chuckles the IKEA you went to is way more accessible then our local one (which is actually just down the street from our home) when it comes to the inside of the store with the displays and layouts. Most of the display rooms are so NOT accessible to a wheelchair. Ours is totally service animal accessible IF the handler is without mobility issues or needing aids (not blind friendly). Chuckles the tri USB port we picked up a couple of them when they first came out, totally worth it! I take it you don't have the vegan meatballs there yet? We wont touch their original ones as their vegan one's taste so much better. Though they are by far a good cheap food option that is for sure (through to be fair 4.99CAD for the vegan meat balls vs 8.99CAD for the swedish meatballs is a BIG price difference). Chuckles your experiance reminds me of showing our ikea to my husband for his time.

00:14 Sausage & Egg McMuffin or Bacon & Egg McMuffin ? Neither. McFake McFood for McBreakfast, _BLEAH!_ Go to a _real bakery_ and get proper fresh made filled breakfast croissants. Ham, Cheddar, and soft yolk fried egg, is a favourite of mine. 00:45 IKEA stores being overwhelming That is by deliberate corporate design. It's specifically to force you through their maze, so you will see and impulse buy stuff you do not need and did not go to IKEA to actually buy. 03:29 The revolving door While it's diameter is big enough to be physically accessible, you also have to be able to move fast enough to be able to safely navigate the revolving door. That makes it an accessibility barrier. 06:10 I hope you reported the mat corner poking up, as a safety hazard 07:32 The play kitchen Scale that play kitchen up by, I think about a third, and it would still be accessible, then replace the play sink, cooktop, and microwave, with real items, and it'd be a full size, one-piece ready to plumb and install, proper wheelchair accessible kitchen. 10:18 The paper tape measure Shaun should have had a Lufkin 3m/10ft Pee-Wee Y613ME, metric and Imperial pocket tape measure with him. I've had my one since 1982, and it still works fine. When going shopping for furniture, or measuring up an area, it's an invaluable aid to have on hand due to its compact size and very flexible blade. 12:42 IKEA Swedish Meatballs Those are actually very poorly regarded in Sweden. 15:04 The Travelator I dislike those when I'm using my rollator walker, as their slight jolting movement makes my rollator move slowly ahead of me, whilst its brakes are on. I've yet to try to navigate one, using my wheelchair. 17:15 Reusable shopping bags You should have taken some of those with you into IKEA for the smaller household items. I have several linen supermarket shopping bags I bought back in the late 1990s, as well as 2 hessian supermarket bags (like the Tesco one), and several Daiso Mickey Mouse cold goods bags, and they all store neatly in a supermarket cold goods bag. So when I go shopping, I just take one bag with me, to have all my reusable shopping bags with me. 20:14 Local IKEA Where I live in Brisbane, Queensland,, I've got 2 IKEA stores I can get to. Logan, and North Lakes. Other IKEA locations, when you did this video, IKEA were already well established in Japan. Serious question Gem, does IKEA have wheelchair trolleys?
