Hannah, I will tell you that I live here in the US. Most of us here hate the fact that most of the stores start putting the Halloween/Fall decorations--food, out in early August. Not much is left in the "fall" department by mid September. Now, all of the stores have almost all their Christmas stuff out and it just gets earlier every year. We don't like it. I am 74 years old and when I was a child, the fall/Halloween things came out early October and the Christmas things came out the day after our Thanksgiving celebration (which is the last Thursday in November). By the time late July, early August come, all the stores start putting out all the fall/winter clothing and everything. Who wants to shop for that when our temps are in the 90 degree range every day. THEN, mid September out comes all the Christmas things. By the time "the most wonderful time of year" comes along, everyone is sick of it. It's all about the merchandizing and I just hate that.

@patriotmama Costco is mainly business member built, which makes it the wholesale market for them to purchase their products earlier than the upcoming holiday season, which allows them to stockpile their inventory until its the season to sell. Each individual retailer chooses when to merchandise those goods. Not every country has Thanksgiving, so they don't understand that at all. Heres some trivia for you, Some countries like the Philippines start the Christmas season September through to January 6th, the longest celebrated season in the world. Each country has its own way of celebrating for religious or other factors. If the Philippines had to wait for the rest of the world to purchase, they'd miss most of their season. And Christmas is Christmas for heavens sake. We should all think about how many Christmases we have left. Celebrate!

I so agree (sorry, but I'm a "boomer") when I was growing up nothing was as commercialized or profit oriented as it is now)...Halloween items appeared about the 1st week of October, Xmas items the day after Thanksgiving! Everything had its own distinct sales period and you were able to appreciate each holiday and not be so oversaturated that they all blurred into one mega sales session. Now, if you want something for halloween you have to look in August, for Xmas you need to start looking in September, it's ridiculous and takes away from the fun and anticipation of the holidays. It's all about profit and greed.

Funny story, the chickens during dinner rush are very popular and theres usually a line of people waiting for them to be put out of the roaster. This poor young man was on his first day on the job and got all the chickens stuck on the rotisserie stick. Needless to say he was so embarassed. Everyone was fairly kind waiting for the chickens to be unstuck and put under the warming lamps. We've all been there on a first job and told him it was going to be ok. 😂

Costco croissant are incredible and much cheaper than pretty much anywhere else. Oddly for a US based company they don't sell US sized clothing or shoes for people my size 🙂 p.s. Costco is a wholesaler and has to comply with the wholesale laws in the UK which restrict the amount of goods that can be sold to the "general public" but also influences how planning laws apply to their store locations. Frustrating for some, but beneficial to others.

These membership requirements are exactly why the UK does not have the GDP of the USA. What absolute snobbery! The truck driver who delivers the goods to UK Costco can't shop there. Absurd. @falusitablet8747Ай бұрын
@aboone5977 nothing to do with snobbery. The UK, has wholesale laws for businesses! General public are not allowed to buy wholesale because they don't own a business! Business owners (all around the world) are able to provide their employees memberships, as long as that Countries laws allow it. Nothing to do with Costco. Many countries allow the general public to buy wholesale. The tax is applied POS whereas "Businesses " claim the tax annually.
@falusitablet8747Ай бұрын
@carolyncalhoun7555 Costco does not put the restrictions. Country's who grant Costco a Business license restrict who they can sell to. Wholesale tax law restrictions are Not Costco laws. Costco just has to abide by them if they want to do business in that country.

I enjoy your channel so much! Well done! It is interesting to see what items are in the UK since I am in the US. Some are the same, some is not, but that is true at every Costco store.. As for early displays of various holiday items....they are ordered 9-12 months ahead and shipped to retail around 4 months ahead. I have worked in retail - a ladies boutique actually. But it is the same for any retailer that handles seasonal items. It is a storage problem for retailers so everything is displayed early since wholesalers insist on early . I don't like it and everyone I know complains about the seasons being pushed so far ahead. As for the wacky giant Halloween items, that is a matter of taste. There are certainly many who are crazy for Halloween, decorating in over the top manner. But, there is an equal if not more number of people who don't go extreme. Halloween items here were rolled out in AUGUST!! I know. Ridiculous. Commercial "scary" venues for large number of people have grown in popularity over the last ten years. Anyway, I'm looking forward to viewing more interest vlogs from you. Loved the Cotswolds! And Harrods! And all the other vlogs you have done.

21 yr employee. Initially Costco was always just for the business community. The bulk was for retail stores to come and stock their stores. They were able to buy their stock months before the actual season so reg shoppers could buy at the actual season time. Britain may eventually allow the general public to become members just like here in Canada, and elsewhere. Even when the public were permitted, only the business card holders shopped for the first 45 minutes. Now it's a free for all chaos 😂 Right now, we have Halloween and Christmas in the stores. Pumpkin pie will be available around Thanksgiving time, October 2nd week. Costco will only carry proven sellers throughout the chain. It depends on your demographic, Halloween may not have proven its value in Britain yet. Your food items are definitely regional. You carry lots of foods we don't have in North America and vice-versa. Also, Canada cannot sell alcohol within the warehouse, Its a separate entity due to licensing laws. Happy shopping..

Even the toilet paper is put through rigorous testing. Also, the Kirkland brand is Costcos brand and they get to put their label on popular brands for example; Kirkland cola can have cokes label on it that’s why it taste the same and it’s also always cheaper. Fascinating to see Costco from a UK point of view. When I visited London for a month, I never made it to Costco. Tesco, Sainsburys & Poundland was more convenient. One thing I found interesting was that energy drinks like Red Bull are regulated (ID required) like liqueur is regulated in the US. There are differences between the two countries.

A "dressing gown" here in the States is called a "bath robe." The Donna Karan robes were a great value there. Our pricing is definitely straight forward. I don't understand the "inc. VAT" pricing I love your channel. I think you and your sis with nieces in tow are my favorite ( high tea at the holidays, priceless). Much admiration to you and yours, Chris Pollock.

Autumn is classically my favourite time of year but it look like Costco is still getting themselves ready for the season. I would think that places like Target or Homesense would have the fall home trimmings that you're looking for. That new jacket of yours is quite nice and hope it's warm!

TBH, I signed up with Costco just for the petrol. I consume a tank full per week commuting and just getting from point A to B in general and the savings per fill-up is about £6-ish when you compare the difference in their fuel price versus everyone else. This saving in fuel pays off my 75 quid membership in just over three months. The savings does not end here. Now we get to products in the store itself and in general the majority of stuff works out a lot cheaper compared to all the supermarkets by whatever metrics you want to compare; volume, weight or units per monetary unit. Only catch is it is in bulk compared to supermarkets, but that's no big deal. Example I bought my 4.5 litre Ariel laundry detergent, touted as good for 130 wash loads, well over a year ago and its still not empty and I use more than the recommended amount of liquid needed per wash.

That is shocking that they have regulations about who can get a Costco card. I live in Windsor Canada; and being across from Detroit, our main source of income is from the automotive industry. Yet, Costco is keeping in business because of these factory workers for close to 30 years! I am not a member, because it is just the two of us and where would we put those giant cans of food, but my goodness, the class system is alive and well in Britain!

It's not Britain, it's just Costco is an Yank company.

An excellent mechanic I worked for (they specialized in Landrovers) said Costco is the best place for tyres - they are careful to align them, will only sell you the correct ones for your particular car, and have a great warrantee. They will also repair tyres (we had a puncture and they repaired it for free because of the warrantee).

@@ExoticDoll-ct3udin Canada and the US anyone can purchase a membership. This is a British thing.

I am also from Windsor, ON and when Costco first arrived early 90’s only certain professions were eligible for membership- not sure when they did away with it. We have HST like your VAT wish they’d show our price with tax- hate the surprise at the till!😉

@@graciellastokes7979 In the US it also does not show tax because our tax varies by state, county, and sometimes city whereas I think it the UK it is one rate everywhere.

I started my comment before finishing the video and you also make the observation I am about the people that British Costco allows to get memberships and that it seems that they are in work that might make them more money than the average Joe. You'd think the average income earner could benefit best from Costco shopping, but who knows. I'm in Canada and anyone here can get a membership although I've yet to take the plunge. Thanks again for a great mooch around. I look forward all week to these videos. They are my escape from reality and I really need them. LOL. Enjoy the weekend Hannah and of course my fellow watchers. P.S. Decades ago I too watched a report on how hot dogs are made and I've still not been able to eat them. LOL Pity as they can smell so good!
@marysmith6671Ай бұрын
You might consider kosher hot dogs, which have much higher manufacturing and ingredient standards than most other hot dogs. I gladly eat Costco food court hot dogs but for home cooking I buy Nathan's or Hebrew National
@RRaymerАй бұрын
Nope. British wholesale laws are elitist and antiquated since the 19th C. There are many professionals that earn more than the Costco membership but not included
@kelliewilson8221Ай бұрын
We did have a costco membership but we stopped using it. It was handy during covid with all of the items in bulk. Some shops in Australia go all out with Halloween like Kmart and Big W. I don't follow Halloween much personally. I've bought a few items of clothing from costco a nice winter jacket and tops. We liked getting the chicken fillets in bulk and the salads and the boxes of soft drink. And we call our dressing gowns as well (got summer and winter). Cant believe we are nearing the end of September. Where has the year gone again?. Hope you have a fantastic weekend and great week. Catch you next Saturday morning ❤❤❤

Many years ago (up until the late 80s/early 90s) some warehouse clubs in the USA such as Price Club (which merged with Costco) and Sam’s Club also used to restrict who could be a member. Those days are long gone in the USA though and nowadays anyone can join.

I'm in the North east of England, a dressing gown is just a dressing gown. House coat sounds very posh, and something like bath robe very american.
@JennaFowler1Ай бұрын
I remember housecoats in the 60s and 70s. They were quilted and buttoned up whereas dressing gowns are usually tied up with a belt and are not quilted.
@AutoReport1Ай бұрын
A housecoat is like a lab coat for doing the housework in or answer the door. You don't put on your dressing down to do the washing up, and you don't wear an overcoat inside.

Ive been watching your videos for a while now and when i saw this pop up, i have to admit i did wonder how costco could be interesting but you managed it. Its the cheeky enthusiasm with the occasional 'ooh squirrel' moment haha. Dressing gown is dressing gown. Costco is often cheaper on most stuff but sometimes a supermarket deal can be better.

Costco in the UK is how Costco used to be here in the states years ago concerning membership. It used to be heavily focused on selling to businesses only and not the local consumer. It looks like Costco UK must do at least 70% of their business to businesses. Also, Halloween went on sale here in late July/early August. You noticed that in early September Christmas was already out in abundance.
