I agree with putting the teledial wheels back on that Porsche, much better 👍

Thanks for the mention. I know Rob (that is his real name) through the Triumph Dolomite Club so I knew he didn't buy the 928. I recognized him when I first saw the episode so I e-mailed him. He confirmed that he was asked to help stage the "sale". He knew Mike and the (then) production company (Attaboy) because he was a motoring journalist. I never knew about the extra costs but it isn't surprising considering the nature of TV production when there are constraints to get episodes finished on time.

This one deffinately looked staged as Mike who now has the 928 said it was sold to a guy in Ireland

Brilliant videos these. Love it. Just sad seeing the end stories of most of the cars. I hate seeing anything going for scrap.
@legioner99 ай бұрын
Same here. But the people who decide to scrap them, it is their mistake, at least with most older cars. They should fix them and take care of them. I always get excited when I see a pristine example of any car that is now over 20 years old. I.e., if I see a 90s Mondeo that looks factory fresh ---> I like it.

Great video. With the 928 I never understood them taking off bbs split rims in favour of standard wheels. Swapping 1200 pound wheels for at the time 250 pound wheels

To be fair, mk1 values plummeted about 10-15 years ago when a decent example could be had for around a grand. They've been on the way back up for the last 5 or so years as good examples get harder to find. Great channel btw, subscribed.👍

Nice video. I must admit I'm disappointed to learn that some of these buyers were fake, & the price to fix the cars are also questionable. Now I know it's an entertainment program, but it also should rely on truth, as it could be deemed as educational as well. I thought that Porsche at the time would have been hard to sell for profit, as I remember it came with no service history, something Mike himself in other videos mentioned about avoiding, especially with pedigree Marques like Porsche........Hmmmm.

Why didn't mycarcheck know/state where the Porsche was exported to? When it came back to the UK, why couldn't it have just been re-registered on its original plate?
@oscarsgarage44710 ай бұрын
Their data sources only advise it has left the UK and this is the same for all car check providers. On regaining the original plate that seems a sensible path but this is DVLA we are talking about... :-)

Think Wheeler Dealers would as well...
@AldershotDave10 ай бұрын
Surely with tighter V5 rules, cars need to be scrapped, SORNed or taxed, so surely if none of those things are done, the DVLA will chase up the owner/keeper? If that is the case, then there should be no reason not to be able to find a car. BTW, that IS NOT a criticism of you - I like your channel.
@oscarsgarage44710 ай бұрын
Not taken as criticism! DVLA don't appear to be at all proactive on SORN or untaxed vehicles, regardless of how long they have been dormant, they just lie on their records until something causes them to react - eg V5 change, etc. Now there is continuous VED/SORN enforcement owners are keener to move the V5 out of their name.
@thedeadstig1237 ай бұрын
Its all the DVLA's fault as they removed the simple "scrapped" tick box on the V5 so owners could tell the DVLA a car no longer existed now the DVLA want cars only scrapped at licenced salvaged yards....so loads end up on SORN forever
@thedeadstig1237 ай бұрын
Mike bought the Porsche but wasn't interested in spending the money to restore it as it wasn't in as good of condition as he thought (despite it still having shiny paint work still) So mike never got it registered again and just shoved the old UK number plates on it, in the end the car was just used for some PR stories in the motoring press and it was dumped at auction Its worth noting Mike was just a presenter in the earlier series of wheeler dealers and didn't really know what was going on, so its not surprising he thinks some cars are as good as they made out on the show despite the production crew knowing they were a bit rough under the skin
