Add a drop of dish soap to the water (when wet sanding the paint) to prevent the sandpaper from clogging.

That bonnet dent could have been fixed easily and cheaply. Replacing it was a bit like fitting a new engine because the valve cover leaked.

I think it's because it's an old episode and back then those parts were still cheap, know for sure a repair will almost always be cheaper
