Rev counter? TACHOMETER

Actually, since it shows the number of revolutions per minute, (counts) that the engine is currently making. You could even say that it is a rev counter.

@@ZaJaClt because it is a basic model. Rev counters were generally found in higher spec cars back when yours was made. It is a bit like air conditioning. Today, almost every new car has it, but 25 years ago, it was an expensive extra that had to be specifically ordered on relatively standard cars.

@ZaJaClt you should be able to retro fit a rev counter. Try a scrapyard. A dashboard from a Mk 2 Golf with a rev counter should be easy to find and swap. It is difficult to say when you shoukd change gear, it is all a matter of feel. For performance, ideally you need to know when the car makes peak power, but without a rev counter, you will have to guess when that is. But in a car that old, you should really be taking it a bit easier.
