Thanks for all your videos. You certainly sealed my resolve to buy a DR and make it into a ADV bike vice any others. My 2015 dr650 will not wheelie on dirt roads in 2nd gear or higher, I've even rode wheelies starting on pavement and as soon as the rd changes to dirt the back tire just spins, if I try to clutch up in 2nd on dirt it always just spins, I've had my cousin also try my bike out and he's just as good riding them on dirt with his xr650l and he cannot get the bike to pick up. It does wheelie decently easy in 2nd on pavement if your moving about 15 mph but anything faster and it has a super difficult time picking up. I know his gears are shorter on his xr so I think that's what I'm gonna do next is change out the front sprocket to a 14t and also maybe put the 44t on the rear to be able to pull 3rd gear wheelies at 30+mph
@Wolfdog3704 жыл бұрын

The DRZ400E can be turned into a bike capable of good Highway speeds, but it takes more work than most are willing to do. I bored/stroked mine to 472, installed a wide ratio box to effectively get a 6th gear while keeping 1st stock for trail, changed to 14/42, fitted a good muffler, properly tuned the carburettor, and its now 51 rwhp and sits 120 kmh at 5230 rpm. Not expensive, and the bike cost only A$1500, but it took me 3 months to do...it was my summer project. I rode my 1190r over summer while I did it. It’s now a great little adv bike for the Victoria high country and out of the way camping.

I can’t get mine to wheelie with 14-44 pop clutch or not ?
@crosstrainingadventure8 ай бұрын
If you want. But our philosophy has always been it's best to learn without the clutch first as it forces you to get the technique right. A completely stock DR lifts easily in third gear when the technique all comes together. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eILIfqCBqN6dnas

Love your vids!!!
@iRyan8762 жыл бұрын
Man, mine is bone stock and I can only get it up in first gear. If I try in second, I literally NEED to be going uphill. Time to train even more.
@crosstrainingadventure2 жыл бұрын
Technique is probably the main thing, Ryan. It usually pops up pretty easily in third when stock but the extra power for derestriction helps.
@iRyan8762 жыл бұрын
@@crosstrainingadventure Okay! I find when I lift it in second I have to give a LOT of throttle and I end up going way to fast.

Wev'e got a very old vid on this channel somewhere about DR650 wheelie technique. And a pile of them on the enduro channel. Done right, you don't need much throttle at all.

I've ridden bikes a little bit before, the biggest was a 450 4 stroke, for a very short time. I bought a dr650se as my first bike and it's by far the fastest thing I've ever driven, honestly scared me a few times

i had a KTM 690 for a few months which has close to double the power which seemed absurd to me... the DR has plenty of grunt for most situations.

Contact details are on our website Max, but making vids for two channels takes up so much time (70+ hours a week) I only give brief answers, if any. And often it's questions that I've already done a video about.

I watched your videos and just bought a DR650 expecting it to be somewhat comparable to my old XL500S in terms of getting the wheel up. But there's no way in hell it can get the front off the ground in 3rd straight from the factory with the stock gearing. Even in 2nd it takes a fair whack of throttle input and the clutch to get it up, and mine is fully derestricted with all the usual mods and running perfectly. Compared to my XL500S, the DR650 is definitely no wheelie beast.
@crosstrainingadventure4 жыл бұрын
If you get the technique right it seems to come up very easily, Drew. But then a lot of bikes do in that case. We've covered wheelie technique in detail over on our adventure channel if you are interested... you certainly shouldn't need any clutch unless you are trying in fourth gear (in my experience).
@xsr_dirt4 жыл бұрын
@@crosstrainingadventure cheers. I've watched all your vids and love your stuff. I'm only a small fella so don't have a lot of weight behind me but I'll keep at it. I'm doing sit down wheelies so maybe that has something to do with it, although I am still learning.

What mods did you do? ( Intake /exhaust / drivetrains )
@cinnamanstera63884 жыл бұрын
Oh boy, they did alot. Drilled out the airbox, improved filtering, rejetted, modified the needle, ground down the header pipe weld, fabricated their own mid pipe and added an aftermarket GSXR tailpipe. Dont recall if they changed the gearing or chain, but alot of people do. Lots of modification and tuning on the suspension. Lost a bunch of non essentials, added some armour, and of course, changed the tires.

CROSS TRAINING ADVENTURE aside from suspecting I would die every time I took it out for a ride, it also felt like it needed to be accelerating or breaking all of the times. There was no riding along at a continuous speed. It used to cut out all the time and I felt like it was reving way too high for the speeds I was doing unless I changed gears, which would have been every ten seconds due to the sensitivity of the throttle. Not much fun to ride at all.
