It was way back in 1976, so my memory is a bit vague! Allegedly he put the front wheel down once, at Ballaugh Bridge, but he definitely completed the lap, but how long it took him, I don't remember.

I was at the TT yonks ago, and a bloke called Dave Taylor wheelied around the course on a pretty standard looking XT500, so I fail to see what is so special about this attempt on a highly modified trials iron.

Did it take him 90 minutes to do it? There's a difference between riding a road course and actually keeping the wheel up for 90 mins.

Also D Taylor did weelie round sections of the TY course didn’t do the entire thing. Dougie did the entire course in one go. No stopping or dropping the front wheel.

I remember seeing that and thinking its a cheater bike because he was standing on the pegs for a "wheelie". But those mods are next level, thats a motorized unicycle at best. Im sure the guy is super skilled, but thats a wheelie record by technicality.

I was so disappointed when I learned he had a hand brake axel brake and pegs and a gyro. He literally couldn’t have made it any easier.

Umm can’t call that a world record unless your feet are on the foot pegs and not on the rear axle. Having your body weight like this on the axle is very much cheating not saying I could ride that far but most people could ride a fair way like it Shame on you. Do it properly next time then call your self a record holder

Not a Guinness record, not a ‘world’ record at all/mislabeled video. Wheelie record was in the early 90s on a older trials with stock set up. I think it still stands-330 km or something. This track record or what ever is Definitely not following any trials edicts and Dougie would be first to agree. Gyro, rear giant peddles, gas weight and cheat brake/this stunt was just for fun. Although he is a true world champion. If ride or follow trials it’s obvious.

Using rear axle pegs with secondary brakes doesn't constitute a proper wheelie in my opinion... it's way easier than using a non-modified bike --- not that much skill displayed here.
