in this video you will see the making of the priming pan and the lock late and both will be fitted together. That was a lot of grinding....and one of my angle grinders died by that :-(
so thanks for watching and dont forget to like and subscribe

I finally got a chance to start watching this. I think I will need to build a wheellock sometime. Watching this makes me really like my milling machine. That is a lot of file work!

The filling to me is a nice and relaxing thing and the slow process gives a lot of control.. And it dont get cold in my workshop 🤣🤣 If you like to build a wheellock I can recommend this : www.feuerwaffen.ch/waffenkonstruktionen.htm If you see all the detail drwings and ideas it will blow your mind 😜😁

Ha Ha ! You love your angle grinders Roger ! I only use these outside in the yard, they make so much dust and mess everywhere I will not use them in the workshop, I too find they burn out very quickly, it is because you have let the smoke out of them . The lock is progressing very well in spite of the failure of our modern machines, (I always have 3 or 4 as backup),you will have to look out for a small Milling machine as well ! Chris B.

During the preparing of the parts I use the grinder but for the fine work I make a clean up before. And at the moment I have 3... oh sorry 2 angle grinders ;-)) My stepson is building a cnc router, maybe he will make some parts for me hi hi.

@@homemadehistory7537 One thing I have done is to take a drawing along to the local Laser CNC cutting company and get them to cut a few out, then you have a few spare lock plates to make some more locks, you can never have too many angle grinders , it saves all the messing about changing wheels.

Compulsive watching! Thank you for all your videos. I have a question regarding the pyrites for the wheellock. From what I understand the shape should be as a slim 'slice'. Pyrites is formed in crystals as a cube. How do you cut the cube to produce the 'slices'? Thank you. Peter.

Oh that is realy hard. I bought a diamond cutting wheel for the dremel but the pyrite is very britle and shitty to clamp. I would recommend to clamp it with some leather but even than some of the cubes breaking in bits🙂so good luck....

I just couldn't imagine how many hours this would have taken with hand tools that were primitive by today's standards.

On this one I thought it will be a good idea to use as much contemporary tools as possible. It takes a lot of time but after all I have a lot of respect for the gunmakers of the 16th and 17th ct.

I wonder how the gunsmiths attached the front sites on the muskets. (It's what I'm up to on the Bridesberg) I'm going to tin solder it but how did they do it in 1862?

@@fordfan3179 To my knowledge it was soldered in place. It was fixed with wire and than they heated the barrel and put on the tin but I dont know what was used as flux ?
