279,000 mile NSX Header Swap + Pride Header Review (Very Pleased!)

Continuing from my previous video on the topic, I complete the swap of my old e-bay headers for new Pride Group headers. Includes an overview of the install process and some friendly feedback/review of the Pride kit. I'm satisfied with the results and finished just in time to make a scenic drive event this coming weekend!

Removing the original manifolds is the hard part. It's a good idea to do the oil pan gasket while you're in there (with a thought for a baffle?) because you can't drop the pan without removing the front bank headers. (OE exhaust you can just flex out of the way).

My 98 NSX has 21 year old comptech headers and exhaust. The hi flow cats are going (loud rattling noise). Should I also replace the cats and the muffler?

At least the cats, yes if they're rattling. If they still make them I've had some SOS cats on my car since probably 2013/2014 and they're still fully intact as far as I can tell. I haven't heard it being much of an issue with the NSX, but I know other cars have had issues with particulate from failing cats getting sucked back into the cylinders and scoring the walls. Again, I'm not sure I've ever heard that from an NSX tech/owner, but it happens with other exotic cars.

Hey! first time installing headers myself on the NSX. I have a question that hasnt really been answered on the fourms that ive found. When installing the new long tube headers, the original heat shielding doesnt have any mounting holes to connect to. Would i need to get exhaust wrapping to protect the engine from the heat? whats your opinion and did you do anything off camera to protect from heat?

Some do wrap or coat their headers, I did not. Most places it's not an issue as there is enough air gap. I did cover the wiring harnesses that run along the valve cover with a DEI sleeve because I noted the plastic ribbed covering had melted a little (front bank). Other than that and the reflective mat on the oil pan, I haven't done anything else. No other issues to speak of in 7+ years having headers on the car. Thinking back, the only other component you might do something for would be the AC compressor.

@@LapoftheWorld Thank you! Tomorrow i will be going out to find some material to cover the oil pan and O2 sensor wire! BTW getting the front cross bar that attaches to the front engine mount was such a pain! any tips (if you remember) on reinstallation?

@@gokartish Getting it to slide back around the motor mount can require some gentle "encouragement". Rubber mallet and a big tapered punch to stick in after it's close to line the holes up for the bolt. Typically on is easier than off though. Motor mount bolt and nut can be tricky. I know I've seen people use some weak adhesive to glue the nut in place before putting the beam back. Otherwise find someone with skinny arms, lol.

@@LapoftheWorld hey thanks very much, the link worked, i noticed it calls out 91-92, i have a 94 auto, but i think this one you linked should fit right? i dont recall them making any changes between 91-94 in that manner to not make that gasket fit. and thanks for your videos, i actually watched a bunch before getting mine last year. ebay motors find in may, got it delivered in august after having work done to it.

@@SwankUltra Nice! Mine was an e-bay buy as well back in the day. According to an online Acura parts catalogue part number 18115-PR7-A02 is used on both manual and auto cars, so that Mahle equivalent should fit either as well. There are definitely some differences auto to manual, but this isn't one of them.

Probably a long shot, but do you still have those old headers? Are you selling?

I still have them somewhere. I was debating having them fixed/modified for future use, or to sell. Outside of a warped flange on the tail-pipe side (would need lightly decked) and the obviously busted flex pipes they're in perfect shape. Head-sides were flat/true when removed.
