Q: What's your top speed. 0:33 Q: You look pretty buff. Is it from pushing the weelchair? 1:27 Q: How do you overcome that? 6:28 Q: I don't have any questions, but what are usual questions that people ask? 8:45 ( 9:35 a little boy come but don't ask any question ) Q: Is it comfortable sitting in a weelchair? 9:55 Q: Why are you out here? 11:36 Q: You're obviously in good shape, is this the sport version? 12:39 Q: Is your weelchair fitted properly? 13:47 Q: What's the deepest question you've had? 17:51 Really a great vid! I watch you like for 1 month but i already like your video. This idea is a really good one. (sorry my english is bad)

They should definitely have aspects of this in schools because it offers the opportunity for everyone to learn about different disabilities and those that have them and help some people not be so fearful of hurting someone’s feeling when it comes to asking questions about an individual’s injury or disability... definitely something I would want to see starting in elementary schools

When I first sat on a Roho air cushion I literally almost cried, it was that painful. I lasted only 20 minutes. Along with being Hemiplegic I have Heterotopic Ossification in my left hip joint which appeared there after my coma, literally poking me in the sciatic nerve. I had to beg to be removed from the seat and they kept telling me it was good for me. Eventually I would get violent and try to tip the chair over to relieve myself from the pain while screaming. It was far worse then when I got burnt on my arm and melted some skin off.

I was like "they know they're missing a finger. I didn't just drop some massive new information on them". They were all happy to answer too and their stories were interesting so I was always glad I asked.

Richard do you know what i hate the most about peoples perceptions of wheelchair users? its the darn prejudice that all wheelchair users have spinal cord injuries or a mentally disabled. I am disabled because of a accident and medical errors my right knee and left hip are too messed up to walk without crutches and walking with crutches means quickly losing the use of my right arm as my right brachial nerve is being pinched in my Right shoulder thanks to a malformed broken clavicle. So i had to choose a wheelchair but people sometimes ask my family members questions, while i am siting right next to them about me like i am brain dead or something. the spinal cord injuries stuff shows the moment i load my chair in to my car. cause i get out of it and lean on the car to load the chair then people say hey he can walk why the fricking chair cheater. its like we ask to be injured in a special way or something and as you say is planet wide that mentality so yeah i hate that the most.

The fractures were not deep enough to require surgery or paralyse me but left me in a brace for the first 3 months of my junior year of high school. And to this day i still have aches and pains if i do anything for too long and the doctor said i will probably have pain for the rest of my life, the doctor also said it can stunt my growth up to 20% (im only 17 and 5'8") and so far in the past year since the injury i have not grown at all.

If you listened carefully, you would've heard him say he was asked that while checking out groceries, not holding up a sign saying "ask anything". Different situation. He's allowed to have boundaries too. Don't hate. ✌

Looks like it worked better with a new sign? Did it change the number & type of people who approached you? Or did the area change effect that more do you think? It’s so interesting... I need to pluck up courage and do a BritGirl version, then we can compare. The courage may take a little bit though, you have that in spades and that’s one of the reasons you are so inspiring to watch😁 Hey, you could have a series with lots of us, round the world - what do you think?! Would that be cool starting something, or a bit umm... copycat ish?

New sign was actually less effective than the cardboard. I think people assumed it was some “professional survey” or something. We were also on the other side of the country so that definitely had something to do with it. I hope to do ones all around the world. Feel free to do your own wherever you want!

I’d love to hear more about the differences you notice between when people see you with the chair vs without. And if you’ve ever dealt with someone who saw you get up from your wheelchair and gave you a hard time. I don’t need my chair the vast majority of the time but use one to be able to attend walking/standing heavy events that I’d otherwise have to skip and am always concerned about bad reactions I’ve heard people having and how to deal with it in the moment. Also any other disability focused KZbin channels you watch and recommend folks check out?

I was sitting in my chair in the park once, my son had just learned to ride his bike and was zooming all over, had a woman come over and ask if she and her family could pray for me. I was like WHY?! she says "well, aren't you sick?" Uhm, no I have arthritis taking over my spine hips and pelvis, but really I'm good I can do anything you can do except walk and run on my own feet, but wheels are faster, wanna race?" She laughed and left...

Hey just FYI on these videos where you have people asking you questions and the sound of the voices isn’t always super clear, youtube’s auto captioning is often missing a lot of what the people are asking you. If you have the energy to edit the subtitles on videos like this so they’re right, that’d be real cool for those of us whose disability affects hearing too (like connective tissue disorders, and things like CP)
@Wheels2Walking
@Wheels2Walking 5 жыл бұрын
We did! We noticed the questions were hard to hear so they are hard coded on the video :) You’re definitely right about the auto caption not being accurate. I’m a one man show over here and it can be challenging to find some extra hours to get them perfect. That being said I have opened up community contributions on all my videos which anyone edit the closed captions!

Not a question maybe but , the most common statement I hear is. Using the wheelchair must give you strong arms. My response most often is, "it's a lot of technique." I can walk with orthosis, but not that far. Gonna try opening up to questions on my fb. And share this clip as the reason why.

I use a rollator....and folks ask me silly things like "why you use this.... you're young?" My age has nothing to do with my mobility issues but ya...when they see my brace and rollator....I hear that ....daily.
