Learned a lot from this! The thing that shocked me the most was the contract for the EU and South American riders, the USA riders received a different one (it didn't say anything about paying for skates). I was also shocked that the email said they were going through a hard time during Covid-19... sales went up substantially during that period and actually saved the company (from what I was told yesterday), obviously a lot of lies coming from Razors' end. Update on the Incentives email, Andy was pretty much forced to pay me due to all of the feedback Razors was getting from the community (I'm also sure he was scared that I'd take legal actions), he paid me the full amount yesterday... I'm obviously still moving on. From my understanding, he's going to pay all of the USA riders who received this email the full amount owed. I hope Razors grows from this, and abides by the new royalties program/incentives program, it's up to the team-riders to hold them accountable at this point. "In a democracy people get the leaders they deserve".

I remember i used to like Razors here in Brazil because Cults were really cheap, really good entry-boot considering most entry level skates here costs basically a monthly wage. And they were some of the only brands to sponsor Brazilian riders like Fabio Enes and recently Raphael Gonçalves (Only other pro brazilian in an international brand i knew was Carlos Pianovski)...and then i went on the rabbit hole of their shady practices and it shocks me they are still around and people are still willing to skate for them.... I got so hyped seeing Raphael Gonçalves announced as a Razors AM skater at the time because he is one of the most hardworking, talented skaters out there easily and he was starting to get the recognition he deserves but after a couple months i saw him skating Sebas and other boots and then on one of your episodes of Platform found out he quitted because basically Razors didn't give a F for him (And it seems none of their riders tbh)

00:53 Provide medical insurance to their employees. They are multinational corporations that are doing better than they have in years ( just like every other corporation screwing over their employees right now). They should provide insurance just like any decent employer or go bankrupt. If you cant afford to do business properly, you don't deserve to do business at that level. I think part of the problem is that Andy seems stuck on the business model he enjoyed during the Elliott/Shima and then Aragon days: having a couple big iconic pros whose names alone will sell skates for many years. Treat those names well or well-ish, and flow skates through shops to the local hero in every town, and you don't need to worry about all the skaters in the middle (ams, lesser pros, legacy pros etc). That doesn't work nowadays because A. the average age of the market has increased dramatically, thus "hero" marketing just isn't nearly as effective, and B. skating is way more varied nowadays, we don't move from trend to trend as singularly anymore. There aren't any monolithic mega-names for Andy to use, so he's kinda just left with the other half of his model: flowing some skates and mostly ignoring everyone in the middle.
@17BKS2 жыл бұрын
It is most definitely a weird “half measures” model now, in the sense they still aren’t at the bare minimum level like K2 was at the end (a company that just makes aggressive skates, period, and doesn’t sponsor any skaters or events). That said, Razors has gotten progressively closer to that end of the spectrum.

First thing's first thank you to everyone who supported Jeff for his hospital fees. It's amazing to see such love from the blading community come together to help someone in need. As for Razors, yeah they could of done more, but I suppose it's better than doing nothing... Razors may not have a great record over the years supporting thier riders fairly but we all make mistakes and hopefully Razors will learn from them. I'm not justifying what Razors have done and failed at meeting the standards of thier riders but I think we should all look ourselves in the mirror before judging a company that's been around a long time. Yeah by now you'd think they'd handle things more professionally but just cause a company or people don't meet a certain level standards sometimes doesn't mean we should ostracize or speak negatively about them. If anything we should come together to figure out a way to help Razors better themselves as a business. I know if it were me in Razors position and I made these sort of mistakes I'd seek and want all the help I can get to become better at supporting riders. I personally rarely skate with anyone cause a large majority of the blading communities have ostracized me simply cause of my beliefs and moral stardards which is sad considering all I've ever tried to do is help people and share truth about things. In a community supposedly aiming for "equality" it's hypocritical of people to shut me out for something I follow and believe in just like bladers themselves love and adore rollerblading. Especailly with everything that's going on in the world atm now more the ever is the time to help and support each other regardless of our differences and mistakes we've made. Forgiveness can be a powerful thing...

As stated in the video, no one is hoping for Razors to go under. It would do no one any good. The problem is they have a long and terrible record as outlined in this video and as acknowledged by you. What point are you trying to make that wasn't well-stated in the video? They don't deserve any forgiveness until they start behaving better of their own volition and not due to being dragged by their own riders on social media. They're not a small, new company who made their first little mistake.
@lacedmanoeuvres2 жыл бұрын
@@uu3903 People are selling thier Razors skates like hot cakes on social media. Pro Riders have left Razors. I've seen alot of negative and hateful comments about Razors. So to me that looks like a lot of people don't care if Razors go under. And as for forgiveness, people shouldn't have to do good to earn it. It should be given out of the goodness of one's heart. If we sit back and wait for Razors to meet the level of standards the riders need, it may never happen cause there's not enough support and guidance given from blading communities. Rollerblading was ostracized from the X-Games and it's been a long hard road to get Rollerblading to where it's at. Look how much success Julio has with THEM Skates. You think he go this far as a business on his own? No. It's built and supported from a large majority of skaters around the world. I think the best thing people can do for Razors now is to reach out and talk to them and work out a solution to the way they handle thier company and do it with love and compassion and not let our emotions interfere.
@uu39032 жыл бұрын
@@lacedmanoeuvres This is the real world, not Sunday school. You endlessly turn your cheeks like some battered wife. Not for me. Like mentioned in the video, Razors has been behaving badly for years and seems to refuses to learn. And the scene has a short memory or flat out doesn't care because Razors product still sells out. I hope they do better. But if they don't then why wouldn't people buy from Julio and O'Neill instead of shitty companies? If they fail, they've got no one to blame but themselves as a large, established company who can't compete against small upstarts who charge more yet still profit and engender record levels of goodwill from the community. If you spent even a minute thinking about that last bit, this should all make sense to you. Are you spending as much effort writing to Razors management asking them to open their hearts and treat their riders with a basic level of decency? They wouldn't even need to out-do Them and Mesmer. But does Razors have the money is the question, not necessarily the owner. Sorry for the shortness, I just feel differently about it I guess

@@benruppel9651 every major skate company has reported a huge increase in sales since the start of the pandemic. If Razors aren’t, that’s a failing on their part. Regardless, if you agree to pay a fee in return for a service and you have already received that service, you are liable for the cost. If I pay someone to build an extension on my house and I run out of money just before they complete it, I’m still responsible for paying. I don’t just get to say, “Sorry, not happening.”

Jeph Howard didn't say a single word against Razors since he was injured...actually he seemed quite happy by the initiative organized by Razors for him...enough said about this 'controversy' against Razors...

That's only the catalyst that sparked this broader, important conversation about Razors. People have every right to know about the business practices of companies they patronize. Look at the community support behind Them and Mesmer because of how they treat their team. They're making waves in the industry for all the right reasons. In a podcast with Jan, Mathias/Powerslide clearly states that he has some regrets with earlier decisions made with riders for USD. But now he's making amends and doing better with his partnership with Billy/Mesmer. It's never too late to learn, but folks shouldn't be forgiven if they keep acting shitty.

They should just use environment friendly materials for their skates, it's good PR.

Exactly, let's focus on environmental packaging and ignore the mistreatment of so-called sponsored skaters

Razors are making good skates at a good price and spare parts are always available. They are honest with the consumers: the skaters. Some of the competitors sell expensive skates which fall apart, with cheap components and spare parts that are never available. That's dishonesty. yet some of the 'voices of blading' are attacking Razors and they are silent on the main issue: quality and affordability of skates. THEM cheapest skates it's £300 in the UK with a garbage stock liner in it. USD Aeon is over £300 as well and the skates will last less than 1 year. do you really think that this is a sustainable model? no it's not. I'd like to hear more about these real issues from the 'voice of blading'. we need to protect skaters first. if you want to protect the pro rider protect the consumer first. without the consumers pro-riders would not exist.

If skaters don't have a large following already then they shouldn't be sponsored.
