Wish I could add a hack, but I've only ever been to IKEA once in my life, and it was over 10 years ago, long before I ever started having mobility issues, and I remember almost nothing from it other than that it was a super long way from entrance to exit (my feet were absolutely killing me by the end of it), and that you couldn't go out anywhere near the same place you came in. I suppose maybe "come prepared for it to be a long wheel - have someone with you to help with pushing your chair if you can only wheel yourself for limited distance/amounts of time"?? The one I went to is absolutely massive.

I know it was accessible for your chair, but I don't think the tight squeezes would fit with mine. I'm on the heavier side and therefore my chair is a bit wider, really don't think it would fit.

I loved this video and seeing IKEA. Never been to one, but I know about them. Before I became disabled to work, I had a stand up desk at work that was L-shaped. I loved it because I could adjust the height to my wheelchair. Even adjusting it an inch or two would alleviate back or shoulder pain while trying to work. Glad to see IKEA has real ADA set-ups. I'm in the US and until someone has to use a wheelchair, they never realize most places are not compliant for wheelsters.

As a person with narcolepsy, I use a standing desk to make my classroom accessible to me sometimes so I don't fall asleep. It hadn't even occurred to me that convertible desks like that could be helpful for improving accessibility costs for wheelchair users and other people with mobility issues too, but how incredibly cool!

@@Wheelsnoheels hey! youre a huge inspiration to me id love to meet you if you come to sweden! (also im not diagnosed with anything yet ive just set my foot down after 13+ years of pain and got my wheelchair. ive had it for like 3 weeks now and im still getting used to it ^^, and it has helped me a lot pain-wise, its very slippery due to all the ice here in sweden right now so its quite hard to get around, i need to build up strength to be able to use it for longer distances. im trying my best and ur videos are a huge inspiration to me. even if im not paralysed)

When I visited Ikea I was heading towards not being able to go out on my own; chronic pain, body weak from being unable to eat. Didn't really know where I was. I found a staff member and they were so super helpful. So a big thank you, again, to Ikea.

my IKEA hack is to plan what you are going to get and reaserch where to find it and what it costs before you go there, so you can just go straight to what you need and leave, instead of looking everywhere and get exhausted.
@jenc70173 жыл бұрын
I love the desk! I'm going to have to invest in one. My power chair is high and I have had trouble finding a table for me. Luckily I had someone build me one but it would work better to have a adjustable one.

I use an up/down powered desk every day, work got it for me (and I work from home, I used to work from an office, they sent the desk home with me at the start of lockdown), I use a large powered wheelchair, and is does not fit under any desk (apart from workshop desks) and table, after they got the desk we had to send it back as it had a metal bar at the front so they could not cut a hole out for my controller.

I love Ikea. I actually enjoy assembling their furniture! Meet balls are good. Dime bar desert to die for. Also being an Ikea family member I get free coffee in the cafeteria. I am happy to report that my local store, Málaga, Spain, is wheelchair friendly, and has accessable facilities. Keep up the good work Ikea.

My family tends to find this a bit funny. They'll see the price tag of something supposedly accessible, look at me and go "Why is it so expensive?! Can't you build something like that?!" Cuz I use to do a ton of construction projects in my younger years. I even have certifications and everything. 😂

I SO love your videos! We've been talking about going into IKEA, but the new variant scares me. I'm so sick of Covid19. I live in Washington State, we have to wear masks inside and out, in crowds too, and we cannot go into restaurants if we cannot show proof of vaccination or a negative test within the last 3 days. Are your laws/rules different? I see so many who are unmasked. We have been talking about going to IKEA, but I am still freaked about Covid. Stay healthy everyone! I look forward to watching the rest of the video!

Slightly ironic to ask if the lighting feature could be helpful for visually impaired individuals by way of caption.
@JudyCZ3 жыл бұрын
Gen has a point there, though, as most visually impaired people aren't 100% blind and extra light can be super useful for them. 🙂
@JennaGetsCreative3 жыл бұрын
@@JudyCZ Oh I know, but if they're visually impaired enough to need modifications they're not going to be able to read white stylized text on a changing background. It isn't the visually impaired audience members who are going to know about that question.
