Sword and Shield Pokemon Cards have been very interesting to follow over the past few months. With little love and attention being given to the Scarlet and Violet Generation, Pokemon Card Fans seem to be returning to collecting Pokemon Cards from the Sword and Shield Generation. This is causing massive price growth in the Pokemon Card Market for both singles and sealed product.
Buyouts and Market manipulation seem to be a daily conversation piece as it seems that we are constantly encountering a new Pokemon Card Product that is exploding in price. It all started with Fusion Strike and Chilling Reign booster boxes going out of stock on the Pokemon Center website. Within days, prices increased like crazy. Then the Alternate Art Pokemon Card explosion happened as every day, a new Alternate Art seemed to spike seeing double digit growth. Recently, Astral Radiance Booster Boxes also went out of stock on the Pokemon Center website only to return a few weeks later, and now, appear to be out of stock again. Now, it seems like it is Lost Origin's turn to make an impact. Within the last week, Pokemon Card Collectors went from being able to buy Lost Origin Booster Boxes for MSRP, to barely being able to find them for under $200. Will the same trend continue for Lost Origin as we have seen from these other boxes? Let's talk about it!

Giratina V ALT ART is sky rocketing! I caved and bought one at $200 NM and the seller decided not to send it and by the time the EBAY case closed in my favor the card had risen over $300.... I ended up wining a mod play for $207 lets see if they ship it..... UGH

Yes, finally, bought 4 cases from pokemon center, which was crazy since in tcgplayer prices were (can someone explain?) like $30..so it was an instant gain... Now I'll wait 2-3 months and probably sell the whole thing for 50-80% higher... never been easy to make money : Thanks POKEMON! The nice thing is that the lost origin based decks are not meta and the meta is moving more towards Scarlet & Violet engines, so need to reprint it.

cool story time : My favorite pokemon is giratina (got it tattooed aswell), when lost origin came out i bought 12 BB and 8 ETBs to open with my gf. i had given up hope because i hadnt pulled the aerodactyl or giratina alt art… and on the LAST pack of our entire opening my gf pulled the giratina… sadly it wasnt caught on camera but i could not believe i choked up from excitement. needless to say i wont ever sell that card even if i lived under a bridge 😅📝🎦

@@Reach811There is natural demand yes, but it stinks of the 90’s comic book speculators that nearly destroyed the industry. I think Pokémon is stronger than that, however, as Danny said the moment something is sold out on tcg, you can’t get it for msrp. Why is that? Are there suddenly less cards out there? No, there’s still the millions upon millions of cards worldwide that tcg just printed and sold. It’s market manipulation and fomo that drive the prices up artificially, if it was based solely on the love of the game and not money, the prices wouldn’t be increasing overnight. They aren’t stocks for goodness sake and they aren’t going to make you enough money to retire on unless we’re talking base set, jungle or fossil. Gouging customers doesn’t end well for the sellers when consumers walk away. I had a guy tell me the other day that Evo Skies we made a deal for already increased in price, which was good news for him and bad news for me. It was all bad news for him, I didn’t buy a single thing. He lost $600 because he was trying to gouge me for another $50. His friend also lost out out $400 worth of sales from me due to association. I refuse to be gouged by money hungry sellers and have no problem taking my money elsewhere to sellers that actually love Pokémon cards and the game.

Pokemon cards are not stocks lmao. His exact words were, “it’s good for me, and bad for you”. I can assure you it was all bad for him as I walked away from the sale because of price gouging. I’m sure he has no problem selling them, but he’s not getting my money. Remember Evolving Skies was at one time being dumped like the cheapest of Pokémon products out there, for next to nothing, not to mention it had two to three reprints. now people want to pretend it’s so difficult to get. We’re not talking first edition base set, Jungle or Fossil here, people need to stop pretending they’re so scarce. Lost Origin is not in short supply as the market manipulators would have you believe, millions and millions of Lost Origin are on their way to the masses to join the existing millions already out there.

I bought a bunch of different lost origin products to try and pull the giratina alt art. So, I finally pulled it and now I'm left with a few etbs, (1 pokemon center version) and about 100 sleeved booster packs to keep in the sealed collection. I enjoyed sword and shield way more than Scarlett and violet. I just stocked up in each set so if I want to open in the future I can and not be over charged.

Australia never have stock issues as we are just so damn small in comparison to the numbers of other countries. I went to my LCS saw 5 sleeve of LO on the shelf took them and a tin to the Cashier who said how “many LO you want?” I replied just those 5 left thanks…he pulls out a tub FILLED with LO singles. Said over 3 booster boxes in there 😅 was shocked and might have to go back there now

Hi Danny! Thanks for the awesome content, as always. Not sure I'm sold on either LO or ST in a long term sense given how much the value of both sets is driven by their respective, standard format power cards, GIratina and Lugia, but I hope you'll revisit both sets come the next rotation! Question for you - maybe sort of a request, I guess. My son and I (the kid in the Pikachu hat) play quite a bit at our LGS, where prize packs are regularly awarded for event participation. We've pulled some pretty cool cards from them but, from a collecting standpoint, whether trading away a regular card for a stamped one is a good idea, we just aren't sure - it doesn't seem like a lot of collectors even KNOW about them - and most Poke youtubers routinely refer to Moonbreon as being the most valuable S&S card followed by x, y, or z without any mention of the Play! stamped Charizard VMAX. What do you think of prize packs and prize pack cards as collectibles? Are they worth 'investing' in? Would it be worth doing a video about them? I don't think you have but I could be wrong. Anyway, really appreciate your thoughtful market analysis. You can make it the full 365, we believe in you!! :)

I have a problem. My two grail cards are exploding in value right now. 1. Paldea Evolved Magikarp PSA 10 2. Fusion Strike Gengar Vmax alt art PSA 10 I want both in my collection in a PSA 10 but am leary of dropping the money it's going to take to get them. I'm in it long term. Once I acquire them they are in my collection for good. But then again I don't want to wipe my backside with 1K+. Any advice will help. Thanks

You are experiencing FOMO at its fullest. 2 things you can do, 1. wait and see if the prices drop a little or get super lucky and find a great deal like hustling an ebay seller with the best offer option when allowed. 2. If you're scared that waiting means you'll have to pay 1.5k - 2k for each card instead of 1k then scream yolo like I did with my ES bbs and do it now before it's to late. Just please dont do it if it means you wont be able to pay your bills or eat, feeding your kids etc. Credit card is also an option if you know you will be able to pay it back in the next 2-3 months max because interests suck.

@@erik1993 No I'm okay money wise. I got distracted with hockey cards and Connor Bedard. I get FOMO bad. I should've bought these at $400. I have stuff that is liquid in my collection. I'll just dump that and buy them. Cards like these are going to stay with me. There's things I can part with to offset the cost. But thank you for laying everything out for me. It's all good advice.

Lost Origin is one of about 5 Sword & Shield sets that I never had time to open. Bought my normal 2 booster boxes and a B & B case of 10, plus some single and triple blisters; all still in the shipping box. Family, work, sleep, etc. were more important, and the pace of the set releases doesn't help either. Gotta say I'm not mad that the price will continue to rise. And my LO binder may stay empty... the point is approaching when it just doesn't pay to open sealed product. Thanks for the info Danny!!!

That's just simple simply and demand though. Can't hate that people drive the prices on product you enjoy too. Also boxes eventually get damaged or risk being opened when boxes switch hands. Sealed boxes don't last forever unfortunately

Everyone had the opportunity to buy evolving skies, lost origin etc prior to it selling out. It was readily available for everyone at one point. Overtime they stop printing and this is what happens to every pokemon set.

It hasnt even been two years since it released and booster boxes are at $200. Lost origin in my mind is modern product, I shouldnt and dont want to pay that much for a box but I still wanna enjoy opening packs. It’s almost as if I need to open as much product as possible before prices go up, essentially burning all my money (i could buy singles but I live in the UK where singles are way more expensive but product is sold at MSRP or lower)

Danny im getting tired of seeing this, not your videos of course. Soo soo soo many people buying stuff out that should be out of print when they dont even open cards ever. A lot of them don't even own cards that dont have gradable or high tier factor to them. Hope they over leverage and have to sell at a loss😂
