The fact the pilot wasn't court marshaled for the friendly fire but instead awarded and praised for his actions by not only the crew and passengers but his command is something surprising. I had forgotten about this story until now. Crudes saved a lot of lives that day. I am glad he was not punished for his actions and he made the right call even if it was a tough one to make. I don't know if I could have done the same in his boots.

If you know how the Japanese tended to treat prisoners of war and civilians during WW2, you'll quickly understand why it was much better for the C-47 to be shot down and ditch in the sea, than land on the Japanese airfield that had just been attacked by American fighters.

This another idea, Star of Africa, a fighter ace who fought for Germany during World War Two. He was Hans-Joachim Marseille. He was born on December 13th, 1919- September 30th, 1942. He was a very interesting person and as well a controversial person. He disliked the Nazi party and had trouble with many of the rules it imposed on, such as ban on jazz music, helping the enemy (He helped a downed Australian pilot) etc. He was highly decorated ace receiving the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and the Italian Gold Medal of Valour. I thought this might be an interesting pilot to cover and his claims that he scored against the Allies in the North African Campaign.

Can you make a video about the Raid at Cabanatuan, sometimes also called "The Great Raid"? It was a daring rescue operation in January 1945 which saw a force of 133 U.S. soldiers from 6th Ranger Battalion and the Alamo Scouts, with heavy support from around 250 Filipino guerrillas, sucessfully liberate 552 (every single one) allied POWs from a Japanese concentration camp protected by between 5000-8000 IJA-troops. Despite being vastly outnumbered and outgunned, the joint US-Filipino force only lost two men, while the Japanese suffered over 1000 killed and even more wounded.

The North American P-51D was and still is the best WW2 fighter to fly. It was designed for pilots by pilots. The Merlin engine was extremely powerful and reliable. The cockpit was expertly laid out and everything was right where you wanted it to be. The aircraft was a breeze to fly and was incredibly maneuverable. Also, the plane had plenty of firepower with six .50 caliber machine guns. In other words, it was the perfect fighter for the time. The P-51D wasn't the only version though. Did you know there was a much more powerful and advanced variant, the P-51H, which was designed to take on German Jets? Sadly, that plane didn't serve long as the war ended quickly, and jet fighters took it's place.

Priest, but from searching I found out that his name is Royce Priest) from 354. squadron squadron was shot down with its P 51 mustang and his friend and captain of squadron (B. Marshall, from searching i found out his name is Bert W. Marshall) landed on the field to save him, but in that moment the group of german trucks with soldiers arrived and started to shoot on them, but the rest of squadron got them away with their M2 Brownings, and the downed pilot got into a tight canopy and they safely drove back to base. PS: informations I known is the story, planes they were flying and first letter of their names and their surnames, but from searching I found their full names and squadron. The data mached, but if you are interseted in story, I can help you with further searching and data i know for now.
