I was with ya until you said dual stacks,,,,😂😂. To each their own on customizations, so I don’t mean they are bad. I have a preference for cleaner lines with the exhaust tucked away underneath. That utility bed is what I like! My preference for camping is with a truck & camper. We go into areas where a stock truck with a 3000 lb camper can’t go, mostly because the camper may not survive the flexing. The added pivot points on the utility bed will keep the camper from flexing so much and it won’t tear itself apart. Nice. I get a bit of razzing about hauling the camper and using a utility bed. The extra storage alone is worth the razzing!! 😂😂. I hope one of these is in your future!!! Eh!
@Hybris51129 Жыл бұрын
@@shitloveaduck Even among stack guys I am a bit odd. I don't want to cut holes in my bed to run a stack let alone some massive 8 inch monster since I actually use the bed of my trucks but some nice 4 inch stacks that are flush with the sides of the truck give it a big rig look without going overboard. Tucked away exhaust is just too close to stock and seems just a bit boring in my opinion. As you said though to each their own setup.

So 10-11 inch's of tire height difference and no gearing change? The obscenely low gear ration is sort of why these trucks are rated for the weight they are. And now the rear brakes have no protection... Going to be a very costly tire change when those things pop, besides needing a new wheel the whole bed side is going to be trashed. As I have seen large tires like that tear the hell out of much thicker metal on trailers. The suspension sounds interesting, and would have liked more info on it.
@jakes5530 Жыл бұрын
I definitely see the appeal, but if the trucks come from the factory for $80k, can you really justify spending another $100k on top of that for their product? To me it just seems like fancy suspension, a custom bed, and big tires.
@gidderman Жыл бұрын
Nah the way they have that truck configured, with all the body mods, high end suspension, commercial tires and wheels, and weeks upon weeks of fab plus paint i'd imagine the cost of components including the chassis is well over 100k. Add on the labor and markup and your probably looking pretty reasonable. A modern 5 ton chassis with a reefer box which is far less exciting can easily approach 150+k$
@fjbforever6747 Жыл бұрын
The Ford is an F550 and the Ram is a 5500. You can't even buy these trucks from either company with a bed. They are basically custom building a pickup truck on steroids. There is a ton of work that goes into one of these trucks. You couldn't do this yourself for less money. The closest thing you could buy from a dealer that would come close to these is going to be a lifted F450 or lifted 3500. They will want over 150K and you will have a much lower payload rating. Just search for Ram broken in half.

Ok this guy must have lived under a rock to claim that His super single is the first truck in the “world” that can have this type of flatbed and a truck camper on it. Sherptek has been doing these custom bed for years and dbl design in TX has been doing super single as you know. This guy is just another Johnny come lately… Bowen does nice work but he has been missing for the last 4 years. Better late than not be around. Lead time for one of his beds sherptek or Bowen is 1 year plus. He should looking into Ford’s cracked frame recall too. Hopefully they have now corrected that at the factory. I’m glad to see this category grow, there were two companies doing these builds three years ago. Liquid springs is about 25k add-on. I know about this because I have a build like this. His pricing is way over the top… 200k my suggestion if you’re interested is be your own constructor… shop the truck super single with him , buckstop truckware and dbl design… they are all installing liquid springs too. Highway products, Bowen and Sherptek build custom flatbed and you can pick the best truck camper if your choice. You f you do these you will save 10’s of thousands of dollars

He’s referencing our beds in that “First in the World” statement. And while those other companies do make very nice beds, we believe this is the first bed to allow a slide in camper AND enclosed storage for a 42” tire. Also, this bed and the EOG bed are the only beds in the world to allow for full articulation of a 42” tire with liquid spring on an F550. Last clarification: Bowen Customs is 6-9 months out not 1 year plus. If you were to order this truck through Elevation Off Grid, you would actually have this bed in 4 months. Thank you for the compliments on our beds!

One of the problems truck makers are running into is what the Department of Transportation considers Commercial Operations. Small farms, cattle ranchers, and horse farms have been battling this for years. They buy an F-350 or Ram 1 ton with a crew cab and the towing ability that places the rig with a trailer into the commercial weight class. That would require a commercial driver's license which the vehicle can't fit anyway, but they try enforcing it here and there. To be a commercial truck and not a day cab then there are cab fitment requirements for that. Then there is the commercial license itself. That is another expense in time and money that isn't used but maybe a few times a year during a show or sale season. Some long-haul livestock operators haul horses and livestock to sales of shows, but few horse trainers or livestock growers will send their customers $259.000 stallion off in a semi unless they own it and crew to operate it. That would shut down all the smaller producers and we already see that today through regulation. Did I read where Dodge derated some truck towing capacity recently?

YES, Very nice.

What is the target market for this? The tiny home dweller that wants a larger carbon footprint. Also when you say straight frame, commercial truck frames are what I pictured. What I saw looked to be regular truck frame with normal bends for axle clearance. No fleet managers are going to want to deal with all those non off the shelf parts either. Same with farmers/ranchers. Seems to me this is another look at me I'm "sPeCiAL" truck.

Love the F550. The one thing I would want to change is the rear fender width. I don't like how the wheel is set inside the fenders. IMO, taking off just an inch or two so the the rear tire has at least an inch of poke on both sides would make it look a lot better.
@Bryan_327 Жыл бұрын
It’s for suspension travel not good looks. Besides looks fine to me. Hate when tires are flush with fenders cause you know if it compresses too much it’s just sending the tire into the fender. It’s looks clean af as it is.
@scottyellis3442 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. It would make it look better, but if those big aggressive tires stuck out any at all, it would destroy the side of the truck with rock chips, plus not to mention anyone following it on the road. It would throw rocks, sand, and anything they ran over could potentially be a dangerous projectile.
