Shane Warne is one of the best cricketers of all time. In this video, we retell the story of when Warnie injured his shoulder, was banned for 12 months from cricket and broke the 500 test wicket mark on his first test back - the first spin bowler ever to do so. This story shows that even though bad things happen to all of us, it's how we respond to them which defines us as a person.

I was there at the ground when Warne took his 500th, I remember people tearing down SLC sponsored boards congratulating Warne, upset because he got to 500 before the local hero Murali. Sri Lanka had a first innings lead in all 3 tests yet went on to lose 0-3.

Shane's comeback was truly remarkable and represented his insatiable desire to compete . One could argue he peaked as a bowler AFTER the suspension . His shoulder may have been debilitated but the mind was as sharp as ever .

I'm an England fan, and even though Shane Warne was our nemesis in the Ashes during the 1990's and early to mid 2000's, I still loved watching him playing. I was gutted when he passed away. He was taken far too early. I always believed him when he said he made a mistake in taking the diuretic tablet. He was great enough a player and didn't need any artificial help.

Honestly that was probably a blessing in disguise for him because it meant taking the full year off to heal every nagging injury he had at the time and come in fresh, rather than rushing back and risking wrecking his shoulder again.

It's pretty unlikely that he took the tablet by accident, but rather to assist with his injury recovery (which was insanely quick from the surgery he had). Hardly performance enhancing, but still not a great look. The more curious thing about it all was the ASDA/ACB response to all of it, which was a bit of a shambles. Couple that with the reports (followed by admission) that he'd taken the same drug previously, the whole thing gets a bit murky. Though the whole episode led to Warne achieving his final form. More nuance, more attacking on flat pitches, and better able to exploit late day wickets - I think this ban only added to his legend.

I dont think this guy really understands cricket. World cricket wasnt dominated by fast bowlers. There were some pretty good spinners with high wicket tally ..Kumble, Warne, Murali, Saqlain Mushtaq in that generation..Aussies were the guys who were historically lacking in the spin department before Warne. Also that was a day 5 pitch in Sri Lanka. Being the main spinner in the team, he was asked to bowl and it was more likely than not that he would be the one to take wickets if Australia had to clean up SL.

all of the guys you mentioned played in the murali/warne era. till then it was dominated by fast bowlers
@prashants5071
@prashants5071 Жыл бұрын
@@Anjula321 India had prasanna, Chandrasekhar and venkata raghavan who were used as wicket taking bowlers. Also, he talks as if Warne ushered in the era of spinners. His peers were also extremely potent. Warne can be called a close second to Murali.
@Anjula321
@Anjula321 Жыл бұрын
@@prashants5071 are you saying the likes of Prasanna dominated the world of cricket like Waqar, Alan Donald or the West Indian fast bowlers did? they were good bowlers but dominating the world of cricket is not a title I'd attach to them. pre-warne/murali era when you think of the best bowlers of all time, almost all of them were fast bowlers.

@@Anjula321 I am saying that Warne didnt usher in the spinners' era as insinuated by the uploader
@Anjula321
@Anjula321 Жыл бұрын
@@prashants5071 he didn't say warne ushered in a spinners era. he only claimed that till warne's generation, bowling was dominated by fast bowlers, which is true. when you think of the best bowlers of all time, warne and murali are there, the rest are fast bowlers. 90s were dominated by Akman, Waqar, Donald and Ambrose. McGrath and Pollock were the only ones close. 80s were dominated by Marshall, Hadlee, Imran and Garner. Holdings and Lillee were close. in 70s Bishan Bedi and Derek Underwood were near the top of highest wicket takers but they still averaged close to 30. only Prasanna had a decent average for a spinner in that era.
