The 2005 ashes were one of the most memorable test series ever, but losing that series pushed that Australian cricket team to new heights over the next 18 months. In this video, we look at what they did after those ashes and how it came to define them as one of the best ever cricket sides in history.
Special shoutout to @robelinda2 and his library of cricket, his resources allowed this video to come to life. If you haven't already checked his channel out, I highly recommend it!

I HATED this legendary Aussie team because 1) They defeated us in the 2007 WC final, and 2) Murali was my idol back then-the silly kid I was envied how talented, as well as elegant the Aussies were. After 16 years, I know I was privileged to witness such a vintage level of cricket, and I wholeheartedly admire the Aussie team's greatness. Thank you for the very well-done video mate! Beautifully narrated and the script was very well matched with the dramatic scenes of the duology that was the 2005 and 2006/7 Ashes. I remember it to this day so vividly. I'm not a superstitious person, but I did believe that England's luck had run out in Edgbaston on that fateful day, with two runs separating victory from agonizing defeat. As dramatic as it is to say, I'm glad to have been able to witness an Australian side that was so dominant that their legend still strikes fear into the hearts of every nation who followed the sport at the time. That said, I want the current gen to do something magical, and they have the tools for it. An aging side that's looking to cement their own legacy after having years, across all formats of ups, downs and almost reaching the greatness their predecessors accomplished. Winning it in England is one thing to do just that. However, if I may be blunt, there's only one thing I want to see and it is a 5-0 fuck off result.

The sheer competition to even make Sheffield Shield cricket in Australia was just immense. This is what made Australia so successful. Only 6 first class teams for at the time the nation's most popular sport. This meant that anybody playing Sheffield Shield was the cream of the crop. Guys like Simon Katich and Michael Hussey were beating down the door of the test team and when they finally got their chances they took it with both hands.

I was 12 in England when we beat Australia in 2005. I think what was so monumental to us about it was that we knew just how legendary and formible a side they were. That series got me hooked on cricket, but what I will always remember is just insane Shane Warne was. He was on another level. And Glenn, best bowler in the world at that point, so consistent. Ponting was top 3 batsman of that era with some stiff competition, and he was a fantastic captain. The team was stacked top to bottom, Brett Lee was the fastest bowler I'd ever seen, and Gilchrist was simply sublime to watch. Our England side had generational talent, but were the underdogs to that Aussie side. Thanks for the video, this was a trip down memory lane. I also haven't seen too much of the highlights of the 06/07 since cos of the the fact we lost 😂 But man, what a side that was. RIP Shane, you're a legend.

Great video! This was such a golden era for Australian cricket. So many unforgettable moments. Harmison’s opening delivery in Brisbane. Warnie’s 3rd innings performance in Adelaide to make the 4th innings chase down possible. Gilly going berserk in Perth. Warnie taking wicket 700 at the MCG. So many legends retiring on the back of a 5-0 drubbing of their making. This was an even better series than when Mitchell Johnson was absolutely terrorizing the (mostly) next generation of Pommies.
