This is normal worldwide. As for drainage most sain improve it. Like yeah you can improve but depending on bedrock of soil profile whether they permeable for swift surface runoff infiltration right to the sea to balance always. Like some sandstone compact harder at seashore thus the imperneability of its texture doesn't help. So that happens a lot. Only good thing it doesn't happen every day every week for months it be like Noah's time again. Again thanks for the video very great coverage

Thank you. Yes, sadly, this type of flooding is happening everywhere. The scenes from Auckland, New Zealand, recently are a case in point. Something like this always happens in Fiji during the rainy season.

You would think that flood prone areas would have levees by now. I was born in 1970 and as far as I can remember, Ba Town was always inundated after a big downpour but no one claimed Global Warming was the cause. It was called Nature

Hi Michael. Thanks for the input. Correct. Ba, Nadi, Rakiraki have always been prone to flooding during the cyclone season but it seems (according to people I talk to) to have become a whole lot worse.

So sad that Fiji have to go through this repeatedly. There is not much solution to natural disasters and our people are very strong living through floods, cyclones and hurricanes + plus longstanding and worldwide Covid. Hope you are well Azeem.

I know, Babita. It's a yearly occurrence, sadly. Yes, I'm well, thank you for asking. 😎😎 Just waiting for Covid to go away! 😏

Vinaka, Alipate. We're over the worst of it. Still raining though...and often quite heavily!

Seen these images from Nadi town, Labasa and many other places this past week. Of course Ba and Rakiraki often cops the worst of it. Wishing you well from Suva.

Thank you for your videos Ba and Nadi towns are prone to flooding during cyclone seasons. You would think that the government, town council and planners would provide some flooding solutions such as improve drainage systems no they don't so every year they experience the same disaster and nothing is done about it.
@ThePaleBlueDot3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching, Mar Vee. I agree with you 100%. The government should be doing a lot more but alas it is doing precious little while it bangs on about climate change!

Ditto. The Ba river floods almost every year now that "they" (climate change wackos) wont dredge it, instead they line their pockets with $$ they beg from cop26
@ThePaleBlueDot3 жыл бұрын
@@geewah9736 They certainly seem to be lining their pockets if nothing gets done.

Not only Fiji experience flooding every decade also other developed countries and most towns cities abandoned like sparsely populated faster. Like in Mississippi River County. Hopefully they don't do that there in Ba Town. Just get abandoned like the Cairo Illinois town due to decades of floodings and collapse of town activities in generating supply faster. People just move away.

The floods are getting more frequent all over Fiji than compared to yesteryears.Poor drainage systems through /coupled with increased anthropogenic activities i.e.infrastructure and agriculural through cultivation/logging etc are major causes.
@ThePaleBlueDot3 жыл бұрын
These are some important issues you’ve raised. I agree with you. All of these factors are relevant. I’m sure others factors are relevant too like climate change and the intensity of cyclonic activity.

Ba is always flooded like this when there's a heavy downpour and the Ba river bursts it s banks.
@ThePaleBlueDot2 жыл бұрын
It seems to be getting worse and happening with more frequency.

Global warming is one issue. But this kind of thing has been happening for years. Better draining and water management is needed.
@ThePaleBlueDot3 жыл бұрын
Very true, Tasleem. That’s the only way to deal with this situation.

Hope all have been COVID vaccinated in Tonga and other neighboring countries who have been hit hard and now geeting help like drinking water, food medical supply etc etc is very imporatant....

Yes, indeed, Sandesh. Tonga has been affected by the recent underground volcanic explosion. And the heavy rains have started all over again in the West of Fiji!

So tired of hearing about climate change this is a regular thing in Fiji . My apartment flooded just the other day. The drainage tiles and pipes along my road are all collapsed and dredging the rivers of sediment and rubbish would help the situation immensely
@ThePaleBlueDot Жыл бұрын
Sadly it's become worse in the last decade or so. I was at Xavier College in Ba between 1978-80 and I don't remember this level of flooding.
