80s windies was the most intimidating bowling attack I have ever seen. They were all giants and quick, really quick and "wtf was that" quick.

Great storytelling there JB....cricket lends itself to this type of banter that AFL can never match

Did he tell the story of the accompanying one-day match vs the Windies on that tour? The young Jamie got the hero's ending in that one.

We have yet to see a more fearsome assembly line of fast bowlers. It all started with Andy Roberts I think, and ended with Courtney Walsh. That’s about a decade and a half of the greatest production of pace like fire.

I started watching cricket when World Series Cricket was on, so basically saw all the quicks from the crazy dominating era starting with Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Joel Garner and Wayne Daniel. Colin Croft sometimes was picked ahead of Wayne Daniel. They had a guy named Collis King but I cannot remember him being quick. Think he just a medium pace allrounder, but geez, Holding, Roberts, Garner and Croft were all seriously quick. Then I think Malcom Marshall was in their touring squad when World Series Cricket ended but basically once Roberts retired they had ready made replacement in Marshall. He was not tall like their other quicks but he was skiddy and very fast too and probably swung it a lot more than their other quicks. They had some other quicks on a few tours to Australia when Holding was in his later years. I remember a Sylvester Clarke and a Stephenson but did not see a whole lot of them as the four other quicks were better bowlers. So Patterson seemed to be around the later 80's , which by then I think Holding and Garner had retired so I think guys like Bishop , Patterson, Ambrose and Walsh were left to fill the void with Marshall the spearhead as it approached the 1990's. Would take until 1995 for the West Indies to be dethroned from the top of the world cricket mountain. By 1992 they were no longer a super team but they would still be the best in the world for three more years. It sad how it all fallen apart because it was really exciting to aim to challenge them as they were so hard to beat. Now to be the best in the world it a lot more easier but West Indies as a cricket power is lost to Test cricket. There not enough paid to the best West Indians players for their best players to play Test cricket so most of their better players focus on T20 franchise cricket sadly. Seems like South Africa is heading down a similar path so Test cricket has 3 or 4 decent sides at best. West Indies play a couple of Tests in coming weeks and half their squad are newbies so they probably going to lose 2 nil and be lucky to be a competitive as Pakistan were last month.

1980's was definitely not the decade to face the West Indies pace bowling attack. My favourite to this day is still Big Bird Joel Garner.

Jeff Dujon was the Windies keeper in that game, not Junior Murray.

It's actually happened with a few bowlers. I've seen Shoaib, Lee and Nantie Hayward bowl those kind of deliveries
