Do you have a specific clue or sign you use to know when to remove kits from mom?

For those who use the colony set up...what do you do?
@jessicasosnoski75174 жыл бұрын
They need to nurse until at least 5 weeks, but preferably up to 8 weeks - otherwise they wont get the nutrients necessary for good bone growth. Since rabbits can breed at 8 weeks the earliest, the house rabbit society advises weaning at 7 weeks, then monitor for a week to make sure there is no digestion shock, then separate males and females no later than 8 weeks. Separating males and females at the same time as weaning, at 8 weeks, might work if you can just put up a divider of some sort instead of moving the babies to a new location at the same time as the weaning starts. Too many changes to situation and environment at once can cause stress, which can cause digestion issue.

Your thoughtfulness toward your rabbits is a wonderful example to me, I have a French angora rabbitry for spinning in our family. We are expanding and love the guidance as we grow. Thank you

There is a lot of thought that goes into each choice. Each litter is watched and when to start switching pens is not always completed at the same time. What color French do you have?

Can you leave different nests of kits together? Up to what age difference between the nests, can you leave kits together?
@RabbitryandYarns3 жыл бұрын
If you have a doe reject her kits and have another doe with very similar aged kits, she may adopt them. It may vary due to the doe and kits.

I removed 3 baby bunnies(when they were 2 months old)from their mother ,but she is showing a lot of anxiety plus she hasnt fed her new born babies yet what should i do?
@RabbitryandYarns Жыл бұрын
Any time a bunny mom does not feed babies, we must make sure that is what is going on. I have a video that explains how to check if they are getting fed. If you already did that, then you have the option to hand feed if she is not feeding.

Do u need to separate the babies from the mum or the mum from the babies? Because breeders have said mum from the babies while google have said babies from mum. Is it alright to remove the babies from the mums enclosure and the mum would be fine and not stressed?? (Sorry first time breeding)
@RabbitryandYarns3 жыл бұрын
Some breeders to remove the babies and some do not. It depends on many different factors, such as how the mom is handling the babies and also the kits themselves.

hi, is it normal for a mom to chase her bunnies?
@RabbitryandYarns3 жыл бұрын
Great question. In the weaning process, she can hop away from them, to actually getting more physical with them. If they are older, she could be letting them know to stay away, such as if there are bucks trying to mate with her, or if there are does she is feeling territorial with.

Are there any obvious signs of their genders early just by looking
@RabbitryandYarns3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can look at the anatomy under the bunnies tail to determine male or female at any age. However, as they age, it becomes much easier!

My angora babies nursed just past 8weeks...4 weeks weaned seems so early. Is that normal? And how do you know she’s finished nursing since they normally nurse at night? Just curious- Thank you! Your bunnies are beautiful ❤️🐰
@RabbitryandYarns3 жыл бұрын
The does are all different. Some seem to want their babies to stop soon. Others are more relaxed and keep feeding. If your mother rabbit, babies and yourself are all comfortable with your arrangement, then there is no harm...unless they were to suddenly go to a new home while still nursing. It is preferable to avoid that.

@RabbitryandYarns Жыл бұрын
Keep the mom away from the dad. A male rabbit can kill baby rabbits. If you know the mom is harming the babies, it is difficult, but I would recommend hand feeding them. If she is not harming them, but is not feeding them, use kitten formula and hand feed them. This is not a pleasant situation, however, it is possible to manage with intensive care.

@@RabbitryandYarns update: The mum rabbit died a few weeks ago not sure why, could of been a few reasons she’s had a at least 2/3 more litters and they all went to other homes! so now we’ve only got the dad rabbit and one of the baby’s from a previous litter!

They are gonna get hocks on their feet on a wire bottomed cage, they need a flat surface. :(
@RabbitryandYarns3 жыл бұрын
The presence of sore hocks is a combination of factors. I have never had a bunny with sore hocks, however, my rabbits live in a variety of places. They do not spend all day on wire. Further videos on the channel explain this.
