I have a few things to add. 1. Bunnies don’t like to be held. They are prey animals and it stresses them out. Instead sit on the floor, bed or couch with him. Your bunny will bond with you and start licking you to show his love. 2. Never place a bunny on its back, it makes her think she’s being attacked. 3. Bunnies have delicate skeletons so be careful when putting one down because they may jump too soon (because they don’t like being held). 4. If you have hard floors, put down rugs or yoga mats for your bunny to run and hop on. Hard floors can cause them joint pain and it’s just difficult for them to get around on. Rabbits are incredibly fun, sweet and very intelligent creatures. They are wonderful pets but they do require a bit of effort so never get one impulsively or for a child thinking they are an easy pet like a hamster. But creating the right environment is worth it. I wouldn’t trade my bunny for anything.

Excellent examples! I have five house bunnies and have fostered over 50 rabbits, myself. This is one of the most concise videos on mistakes commonly made by bunny slaves aka owners. Thank you! I’m sharing on my FB! Oh and on the subject of litter boxes, I’ve found that portable potting bins or cement mixing bins are AWESOME litter boxes if you have two or more bunnies. One potting bin I’ve found at a mass hardware store has a low front which allows older bunnies to comfortably access the litterbox, and easily fits two bunnies at once with room to spare. And they are only $9!! The two I have have survived 3 yrs with regular cleanings. Large stoneware dog bowls make great water bowls for bunnies. And I use kids wire hanging wall baskets (from Target) for hay bins, and place them at litter box rim level on the wall. Kitty tunnels are awesome for play areas for bunnies, and for toys I like to get baby teething toys like plastic keys or use toilet paper cardboard rolls stuffed with Timothy hay and pellets (pellets act as a treat when they fall out during play).

My rescue bunny came from a home where she had pine bedding and just a food bowl (only pellets. She had never had hay or vegs) and a water bottle. Her fur was a disaster. Never been brushed. That was it. 💔And never was let out of her cage. Definitely not tame. She lived like that for a 1.5 years. She now has her own safe room to free run, tons of toys, litter trained and so sweet. Tragically misunderstood. Incredibly intelligent. Unbelievably clean-although messy lol (there’s a difference). Wildly curious and mischievous. Before becoming a bunny owner, I hadn’t a clue about them. Like so many others, I believed in tons of misconceptions. I was surprised to learn that they aren’t classified as rodents…or that they roam free…or that they can be litter- trained....or that they even required hay as the bulk of their diets. My 1st bunny came into my life by sheer coincidence, fate, chance-whatever you want to call it. And although I've owned dogs and am a huge dog lover, the relationship I have with my bunnies is so very different. I speak to them, and they speak to me. I know that sounds crazy, but I think the majority of bun owners would agree. The understanding is unspoken yet speaks volumes. They understand me and I them. People thought I was losing my marbles until they witnessed instances for themselves. They're considered high maintenace, but that depends more on the individual owner than the bun. It's all about how much you're willing to commit to the dedication of raising them properly....by following this video as a guide...doing research...making minor adjustments... I met a woman in line at DQ who owned bunnies. Mine were beside me in their stroller. We got to talking about the care we provide when she actually told me that hers don't eat hay. "Hay is messy," she said. Besides, the vet told her she didn't need to feed them hay (yeah, okay). Animals are messy. Kids are messy. Don't have them if you can't deal with the time, money, and care it takes to raise them RIGHT. Oh, yeah, and adults are messy, too.
@Marianna28772 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Can't deal with mess don't have them. Because many animals actually very neat. Putting hay in a right size container is actually make a difference, I used the plastic container that actually from the kitchen storage area, I used it for the turtle bath too, both animals love the box.

Giving more littles advices: -It's important to not put your rabbit lying on his back, it's a posture of domination and it makes it stressful for him -do not pet or hold them too much, let them come to you when they want (like cats) He gonna feel safer around you and will show you more affection (ps: some rabbits doesn't like to be pet or hold at all, it's a question of time and truste) -It's not a gift! Surely not for kids! Like any other animal, it's important to take in perspective before you take it in your life and you need self control and sense of responsibility when you have a rabbit -it takes a long time to learn something to your rabbit! You should not talk to him loudly or spanking him (it would distroy all your trust work with him) Ex: when he pees or make circles take him gently with a soft/baby talk and put him in his liter with his circles and pee on a sheet of paper (sopalin) and congratulates him It gonna take some time but he gonna make a link in a positive way with his liter

I’ve had two bunnies in my life. One when I was younger and I have one currently. I cannot stress enough how important it is to spay and neuter your bunny! Not doing so can make a bunny more aggressive, especially if you plan on having two of them. As the video says, it also gives them a longer life span and a much healthier life. Even though bunnies are so adorable when they beg for that carrot your having, DONT GIVE IN! It’s not healthy for them! You might have to deal with a little bunny tantrum and stomping for a few moments, but it’s best for the bunny!

We had to bathe him 'cause he couldn't groom himself well anymore which stressed him out but he LOVED bathing. We just used lukewarm water and sometimes special soap in a kitchen bowl and it was always so adorable. He always got so happy when it was special care time. He passed quietly at 13.5 years of age on my sister's (his owner) lap but he's still a legend; the vet still talks about him all the time.

Are bunnies the sort to have always growing teeth? Or are the branches more to give them something else to focus on?

Excellent video! A lot of these facts I’ve learned myself along the way after unexpectedly becoming a bunny owner out of the blue. I grew up with rabbits and it’s become clear to me that my parents weren’t educated on proper rabbit care, but I intend on doing it right this time. I didn’t know about the water thing or to be weary of pet store products that feature a rabbit on them, so thank you.

Lots of good insight in this video!! we would like to add that a lot of people think putting their bunnies on their back makes them relaxed and we’ve seen multiple channels promote this habit which is very dangerous for them. So many kids watch influencers and simply don’t have the knowledge to properly handle their pets.🐰💞

Just putting plants up isn't always enough. My rabbit jumped up onto the table to knock down my peperomia. She ate the entire thing. Luckily it was a pet safe plant. How about instead of small enclosures just enclosures. Let your rabbit run around. At least during the entire day, and at least in an entire room

I have been taking care of my rabbit since 2015 (I was still in 5th grade) and we did a lot of mistakes (Mistakes mentioned in the video) in taking care of him. First mistake (Turns out that the rabbit doesn't mind with eating pellets unless he is bored), my family used pellets of orange and green color bought from pet shops for our rabbit and strangely enough, our rabbit is very picky when it comes to pellets because the last time we bought pellets of different brand, he won't touch the new pellets no matter what (He just smelled them and turn his head away from the pellets much to our chagrin). Second, we also tried giving him a variety of vegetables and fruits except for spinach since its dangerous for his health. The reason why we did that was because our rabbit gets easily bored with the pellets we used to feed him as he gets older, after several weeks eating his daily pellets, he won't touch them anymore. Because of that, we tried to give him a different type of vegetable and fruits (We often called it experiment by giving a variety of vegetable and fruits to our rabbit in order to see what he love and what he hate). While carrot can be considered a wrong diet but it's okay for the rabbit as long as you didn't give it too much (We gave our rabbit one rabbit per day when he is bored with his pellets and stopped feeding him carrots when he is bored with carrots). Try giving your rabbit watermelon's skin (It's like a medicine to your rabbit if he or she love it), other vegetables except spinach (Always observe his or her reaction when you give a different vegetable that your rabbit didn't recognize and if he love the smell, taste and know that it's not poisonous then he will keep eating it until nothing is left). Third, giving a bath is wrong especially if you are taking care of your rabbit in semi-tropical regions including Europeans but in Asia (I lived in Indonesia), the heat can be very hot in summer and we tried to give our rabbit a bath (Once every several years since our rabbit is a dirty type because he often sit on his own pee and his tail often get really dirty and smelly to us). Giving our rabbit a bath make him really terrified but there is a way to prevent him from panicking. If you're planning to wash him in a small tub, make sure to put your rabbit first and fill the tub with water afterward (This will prevent your rabbit from jumping around from panic because he will get used to it after the bucket is full of water). When you finished bathing your rabbit, remember to quickly dry its fur (Either using hair dryer or using towel immediately to dry your rabbit's hair but in Indonesia, we only used several small towel consist of unused cloth cut into small pieces because the temperature is hot in tropical region). Fourth, we give our rabbit a water bottle and at first, we thought that the rabbit won't get enough water because of it but it turns out that he didn't get dehydration (Our rabbit doesn't drink much even though we gave him a plastic small cup filled with water, he doesn't drink or even eat much food when we left on a trip while leaving him alone even though we gave him a lot of water and food supplies in his cage. I guess he is depressed when he noticed that no one is home for several days, poor him :-( The last is bunny-proofing the house. When we take out the rabbit from the cage, we forgot to bunny-proof it and because of that, we had several cables had their cover chewed causing the cables inside exposed and we had to return him to his big cage to prevent him from making more trouble. As for socialization, our rabbit is a shy, slow, and somewhat stupid (I admit he is a stupid rabbit because he often don't know how to respond to our call when we clapped our hands while calling his name) and even though he doesn't have other rabbit friend, his only friends are us because we often play with him and spoil him. A rabbit raised with love and affection can live until nearly 6 years, my rabbit died two years ago several days before Easter day. His name is Hop and he died of old age (5.8 years old and he is a very spoiled, shy and somewhat slow rabbit because we raised him with too much love). I missed my rabbit even though I knew that he had already died and I still want to cry remembering him :-(

Good on you for watching this video and learning more 😊 Sounds like you loved your rabbit but didn't really have enough knowledge to start with. 5-6 years isn't "old age" for a house rabbit. They usually live up to 8-10 years (sometimes longer, my sister's rabbit died at 11) if taken care of properly. Also, you're saying the rabbit is stupid, but it seems more like he didn't get the chance to learn. Rabbits take a lot longer to train than a dog for example, you have to have a lot of patience, spend loads of time with it and use treats (since the rabbit doesn't have natural instincts to please its owner, like a dog).

My bunny would always chew on his plastic litter box lol! I googled how to stop that and it said to rub garlic on the corners of areas where they tend to chew since they don't like the taste and it worked! I felt bad for him since he had nothing else to chew on so I bought him a bunch of hard chewy hay balls and he loves them! ❤️ plus my whole Apt is carpet so I hope it helps his little feet feel more comfortable since he tends to slip when he runs on tile floor. His litter box habits became perfect now that he's neutered! I feed him hay and a small bowl of pellets with a tiny bit of green veggies a day. I only give him carrots or grapes as a treat on weekends. I don't bathe him so what I do to clean his pee stained feet is wipe it with a dry shampoo for small pets. The rest of his body I let him groom and clean it himself. He's a happy little guy he does alot of binkies and zoomies everyday.🤣 The only thing he hates is car rides he gets shaky and I can tell when he's nervous or scared cause his little eyeballs widen out and seem to pop put of his head hehe. I rarely take him out and only for vet appointments.

I recently fostered a young Lionhead bunny for my local humane society. I fell in love with that sweet affectionate little guy. I cried when he was adopted by the most perfect family that has another Lionhead. I got attached to him the first day I brought him home. I plan to foster again soon. For several reasons I can't adopt another pet only foster. Yes, 🐰 do require maintenance but they're so worth it. A plus for me as a 50 year vegetarian is that they are veg too. 😊

This is great, I do almost all the things you say, but I keep them outside, I will check that. One thing is important also and it is that rabbits don´t like to be on your arms, they love caress but you have to be on the floor, at his level. So it´s up to us to be in the rabbit level, not the other way around. And I feel that, if you spend a lot of time with your rabbits they feel like you are another rabbit, bigger. I have 2 and they have some rules, one is the dominant one, and that is their society. Another important thing is not to grumble your rabbit as if he was a dog, they get scared, don´t understand you and end up being scared at you. Always be polite to them, and caress them, even though they did something wrong. They are intelligent, sensitive, curious and shy. I love my rabbits! It is a problem with the barking of the dogs, there are dogs everywhere. And careful with cats!

About castration, I highly recommend it. I have 2 females, they have been castrated when they were 2 years old, they took them all the genital system, and now they are 8 years old and healty. They suffered a lot due to the hormones, a lot, and they were developing infection problems. But be careful on who does the operation, with the anestesia, it must be inhalatory. If not, they could die.
@annweston23264 жыл бұрын
@@LauRa-re9un this really scares me. I am scared my female bunny could die under the anestic if I get her spayed and if she did pull through she might not be loving and gentle like she is now. She is about 3 years old.
@LauRa-re9un4 жыл бұрын
@@annweston2326 Well, my rabbits didn´t change their character. I had to spay one of them because she was bleeding and it was from the uterus, she had an infection. I decided to spay the other one, one month later and they found a cyst in the uterus. I don´t know what to tell you, talk to your vet. What I can tell you is that the vet that did the operation had a lot of experience in exotic animals and good tecnology. He told me about the inhalatory anesthesia. The problem with the injected anesthesia is that they need 4 times the quantity a dog would need, because if not, they don´t get sleep, but so much anesthesia is dangerous. With the inhalatory one, they gave me the rabbit after the operation and she was awake in one or two hours. If you decide to operate her, check for the best vet, with experience operating rabbits, and with the anesthesia I told you. If not, leave your bunny like she is now. How is her zeal, usually? Mine suffered a lot.

My bunny had 5 babies 6 weeks ago and yesterday 1 died, it just laid down and was shaking for a few minutes and it didn’t have any control over it’s legs so we thought he hurt himself in some way. Today when we came out in the morning 2 of them lied dead and one was shaking on the floor.. Turns out they got a virus just one week before the vaccination even tho they are supposed to be immune until like week 12. It is so sad especially since we’ve been with them every day for at least an hour and they were like family members. Now we only have one left and I don’t wanna have high hopes but I’m praying so hard he’s not affected because if he his he’ll be dead by tomorrow probably... 😢

A really good video. My bunny eats a 50/50 mixed blend of leafy greens few times a week plus a piece of carrot few times also. She loves her apples which I give her 1/4 if one in slices and it's all peeled, she loves butter cookies which she gets once in awhile and always has a bowl of pellets and Timothy hay in her play yard besides her water bowl and that gets cleaned and refilled 3-4 times a day and her potty is cleaned and refreshed twice a day. She's full of fun, loves her blanket, bought her a two story house which she loves the second floor cubby best and her house is inside a large play yard where she can run and play. Her partner ( our sweet Leo, a lion head passed on sadly) but Abby is fine, we talk to her, I call her name she comes running to the gate. But here's my problem and it's big..... Abigail is an Angora bunny, her hair grows faster than people change their underwear. And it's super thick, tested it was the finest cashmere grade and crinkle was sooooo long with no breaks over a foot long. Brushing it is a nightmare, I can't even literally tell where her little tail is it's in clumps of fur. Her bottom is a mess, she's always got poop stuck to her. It's constant clipping but it's overwhelming and they say don't bathe them. I seriously need to but afraid she'll get sick and her fur is sooooo thick if it gets wet it'll never dry. I want to shave her but none of our clippers work on her and only ones that might are our sheep shears and I'm NOT using them on her. I'm afraid of cutting her they're skin is soooo fragile and hers you can't even find. Vet won't do it and no one around us does bunnies. Any suggestions are deeply appreciated please 🥺
