I enjoyed Tough Questions answered series by R.C. Sproul. When our only son died in 2020 I can say it brought us to our knees before The Lord. His infinite mercy and grace poured over us. Many instances of seeing His Hand upon us. Pain...yes. Questions...yes. Whispers from family and friends...yes. Our focus turned to The Resurrection. How precious it is knowing our loved ones are there. God sacrificed his only Son for us. He knows how I feel. It gives me the strength to finish this race. God Bless you Colonel.

Good Morning Steve. The devotion was wonderful this morning. There is so much in the book of Job of endurance and Trust through Faith. Earlier this year our 12 year old Great Grandson was crossing a street with two of his friends and was hit by a 17 year old driver going 70 mile and hour never applied her breaks. My daughter and granddaughter are having a hard time excepting what happened. A person could question why my GGrandson instead of one of the others was taken. I told them I truly believe he felt no pain that God took the soul before the impacted. He loved Jesus and in his own way he let people around him know that too. I personally feel God used his life to open others eyes to trusting in Jesus as their Savior just as our little GGrandson did. I miss him so much but knowing that he is in Heaven and someday we will see him again is our assurance. Didn’t mean to rattle on, take care and have a good day and Happy Thanksgiving.

Matthew 5:45 My Momma told me to memorize this verse. It's about the rain falling on the just.....and unjust. This verse helped me cope with things that I couldn't understand why God would allow to happen. Keeping my eyes on Jesus is the cure for the word......why. God Bless you and yours.🙏

Good morning everyone. I feel so blessed even though I’ve lost my husband, my oldest daughter, my stepson that I raised and was like my son. I’ve had three strokes myself, but I’ve had a blessed life because what would my life had been without them and their love in my life. People say to me how can you be so strong to deal with so much loss in my life. But, what would my life had been without them, the love, joy and memories they have given me. Someone said God must think you can move mountains to endure so much pain and loss. But, when the Lord calls me home, I will see them again. God Bless you and your family, have an awesome day!

I hear this question often. My answer is that God didn’t bring bad things into this world. We did, through our disobedience. How many things has He prevented from happening that we aren’t even aware of, because they didn’t happen? He doesn’t always rescue us from our circumstances, or our consequences. But He is always with us. He will walk beside us, hold our hands, even carry us when we need it. Like you were right there for Bella when she was afraid! He is a good God, but it’s a cruel world. He has chosen us, but He has given us free will to choose Him or not. I don’t know how people get through hard times without Him. ❤️

Love this devotional this morning! It seems Bella's response showed you have been raising her right! She sensed you were being a"stinker" - she showed Discernment! 😊But seriously, when God allowed my house and all in it and my pet to die as I fled a wildfire, it was hard, but I read Psalm 27:13-14 in the old Bible I'd grabbed on the way out. And I have to say, God has given me beauty for ashes. And thru several times other that bad things that happen, God has blessed me on the other side. So now, I don't ask God "Why?" I wait expectantly on His Blessings! The slogging through part isn't fun (radiation, surgery, loss) but His Faithfulness is new every morning! Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Abide in Him, I am learning. Thank you, Col, for this and tying in Luke 13 - new to me! And God bless Bella! You raised her to have Discernment - she knows you well 💕! Praying you and the RMR have a wonderful week! Thanks again for your insight and thought provoking devotional. God's best blessings, JJ✝️📖🙏😊🐺💒

Thank u for sharing l The last few years have been full of sorrow.Lost my mother then my cousin and an Aunt and uncle. This January my dad passed away and October 29 2021 our sweet 24 year old granddaughter lost her battle with addiction. These are times I see the hand of God more clearly. Our hearts are broken but God is ALWAYS faithful and we keep our eyes on him.He is our strength. During these trying times we see our faith growing and we are trusting more then ever that God is good and that His mercies are new every day.Praise the name of Jesus. The story about Bella and the goose was so funny.

I loved this topic. Job had more faith than almost anyone in the Bible. As a Christian grows his testimony of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ his Faith will grow stronger and stronger. That's the case with Job. His strong Faith along with his Strong Testimony is what pulled him through his trails and tribulations! The Lord does gives us trials? As each trial comes out Faith, and a strong testimony with the power of prayer he will guide you through it. Be very patience for the Lord has no time table. To me my Lord and Savior is the oil of my lamp. He will guide you with His light through the strongest storms! Looking forward to the cooking videos!

This is a topic I struggle with a lot. It's easy to accept when bad things happen to someone else, but, when they happen to me or worse - someone I love - then it's a huge challenge for me. I truly need to work on this daily with deeper faith, I guess, so the next time something bad happens I can handle it better. This talk helped a bit - mostly because it's good to know I'm not the only one a bit confused and unable to really understand this topic. I will try to let faith lead my rational mind and hopefully I will be able to be more accepting. Thanks Stephen.

Thank you for this devotional, When you read Job, he walked with God but he wasn’t with out sin. When you read Job 19, I am just in aww. I get a sense that Job now understands what will happen to Jesus when He comes & he says, “28 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?” It’s like he has a saying why we persecute Him knowing the root of the matter is fount in me. Knowing that he is not perfect, & he needs a Savior. But Job says for my eyes shall in my flesh even though I was dead, I shall see God in the end. This chapter is very powerful to me. Job 19: 22 Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh? 23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book! 24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever! 25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: 26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: 27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. 28 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me? 29 Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.

Totally understand you spending your time with your wife. My boys tell me that they questioned a lot of what I told or did as they were children but now as adults and parents, they understand more. My Dad told me one time that we aren't to question God and his works but to try and figure out what good we can learn from it. It isn't always easy and sometimes it takes a while to see why you had to experience it. Some will be answered when we see him.

Going through the bad things helps us to spiritually grow and become closer to God. I believe most of us knew that when we agreed to come in to our human bodies. We knew coming in that this world would be a challenge. Bad things do happen to good people because this world is full of darkness, but doesn't the light look brighter when you come out of it? Good devotional, Steve.

When I was growing up, I always thought of God as fire & brimstone probably because the church I went to taught that attitude, as an older adult, I've come to believe God has a sense of humor just like the way you teased Bella with the ducks. In the long run, we learn from all things & if we learn to laugh at ourselves, it makes swallowing the painful pills of life a little easier.

Amen Steve so true. One time I had become pretty good friends with a lady on fb. At least I thought we were. I had even introduce her to this guy that kept tryna talk to me but I just wasn't interested so I introduced them and they got married and still are as far as I know. About ten yrs or so ago I started getting really sick to the point I ended up in the hospital and was diagnosed with UC. I was already thinkn I was going to die and admittedly a little scared. She started asking me what I had done to deserve being so sick. Basically started accusing me of all these things I certainly was not guilty of. She ended up deleting and blocking me. She then became friends with my brother and started askin questions about me. My brother after finding out who she was rebuked her and told her that she was wrong. I believe God let's us be tried like Job was not show us who we are in him or to prove ourselves to him bcz he already knows what we are going to do but I believe alot of times he's showing satan our loyalty to God. He was undoubtedly showing satan that Job would trust him and Job did. Good word Steve. Tyfs God bless you

as the Holiday approaches ,dysfunctional families gather , good cheers and welcoming hearts are in short supply . replaced with long ago grudges ,sibling rivalry ,and burning fuses . Arguments and bitter feeling are the main course . These are the dynamics at many homes .mine included . it is hard to maintain thoughts of gratitude and good will . when the people who you love the most in this world , all get together to rip each other to shreds . Job's dark night of the soul was never explained , or for how long he endured the pain . God just offered comfort and hope and a deeper relationship with him .🐑

Hi again STEPHEN I've been told oh so many times I have a life like Job's and I came to learn so I could better understand my own. At the beginning I found a continually full platter of life's tough and terrible to be almost overwhelming and unbearable at times not able to hardly compute in my brain such things. But I had to believe in my heart He had a reason a purpose for it all and because He loved me He was always right there with me to see it through. No greater Love and Trust! Because of that I have always held on for the ride no matter how hard planting my feet a little deeper each time and choosing Not to be devoured. There's always a positive bright spot in everything if we look for it! Sometimes it's hard to find and understand but answers do eventually come. But knowing God there's always that lesson or reason/ purpose... Life is not perfect or easy as we know and being Christian and loving our Lord doesn't make it easier at all. We all were given Life for a reason and we each have purpose. So we must hold on tightly and keep the Faith. Anyway Life is so short but Eternity is forever. All in all we can make it through no matter and still find the happy the peace the love the fulfillment the joy while we're here in the meantime... Good to see you Stephen and thx as always. Will be fun to see what you two will be cooking. Enjoy and catcha soon.

Col Steve, I was taught that wrath is confined to the Old Testament. Jesus came to fulfill the law, and God says He is the only one who will judge us when we face Him in the hereafter. So why do bad things happen to good people? Because all people are sinners and abuse their free will. The Evil One has free reign of the earth during this age and his evil workers are about, tempting and lying to all God's Children. 1 Peter 5:8 King James Bible "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" May the Lord bless you and keep you, Col Steve. May the Lord add His blessing to the reading of His Word. Amen.

Well....I didn't get what I was hoping for from today's subject, but I thank you for it anyway. I have had many bad, even tragic events in my life. When well meaning folks ask how can I keep going...Aren't I mad at God, etc, . I have never felt that God caused these things to happen to "ME" specifically..but that He is there to help me thru them. Surviving these tragedies has given me so much empathy and a heart to help others who are hit with misfortune. You may have heard the old expression that ALL prayers come down to two things...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE and THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

I've simplified things down to : God gave us a good world with everything we need, it's mankind himself (herself) that creates the chaos in the world. When bigger things happen, is God testing us..? Absolutely, and a lot of times it's things that just happen. One day, we will find out the answers.

I still have to wonder how Job could be considered "more blesses than before". His chlidren were all dead! If he had double the amount, they wouldn't replace the human beings he had previously raised. And you are right, you were a challenging father; poor Bella.

There is war in the bible. God gives man. Emotions and ability to choose good over evil. Go to hell or heaven. My Dad was a preacher. That's one of my youngest memories of my Dad and I having that conversation. Why people fight and have war in the bible and still to this day. Good verses evil. Always watching and never comment. You've done a great job with your Mom's channel.

Greetings to you and the ravishing Mrs. Ritter from the MO Ozarks! We're here gathered round the computer and listening to your message. Oftentimes we cannot see or fathom the reasons for bad things happening. We perceive in linear time, whereas God sees all things at all times...quite different. Thanks for this inspiration right from God. By the way...we're so happy that you are reunited with your lovely bride. God bless and keep you both safe.

There are times when life is wonderful but there are too many times when life is horrible. This world is filled with evil and people are used by the devil for evil. I love the wonderful times, as few as they are and I don't want to die but honestly, I absolutely cannot wait to leave this world and live in Paradise with Jesus. I'm tired and I just want to be "HOME".

Good Sunday morning Steve! Thank you for sharing this with us from Job. Job is one of my favorite books in the Bible. A lot can be learned from it. It's very encouraging to me. The story you told about Bella and ducks was really funny! I used to have a baby goose at my aunt's house. My aunt made it a diaper cause I panicked when it had an accident on my leg. I named it Gosalina. Gosalina grew up to be really big and she still followed me around and was protective. My mother would come pick me up after work and she hated to see Gosalina coming with me cause she was scared of the goose lol! Gosalina must've knew she was scared too! Gosalina would hang her head low and would look threatening. One day someone run over her with a car. She promised it wasn't her even though she hated her lol. Have a blessed day and safe travels. 🙂

If we never had the bad times...how could we appreciate the good? If we were never sick...how could we appreciate our good health? I think I struggle with the most when I hear of abuse and neglect aimed at children. Babies dumped in trash cans...children raped and horribly abused ... children put into sex trafficking..children beaten and starved. These are the things that make me ask why? Why the innocent? Why the babies? How can people be so evil? I never have an answer...but I do know you are right Steve...we will understand one day. But in this life I don't think I will ever understand the amount of evil it takes to do some of the things people do.

A double vaccinated co-worker returned to work after a near-fatal bout with Covid-19 I overheard a man in my office ask him what wrong thing he did for God to have punished him. Someone else said God was displeased because the afflicted man's daughter made bad decisions. Job 2021.

Ditto here about having been hit over the head all my life with the Bibles of and from judgmental and misguided 'Christians'. Because I'd have never survived my life to date without such strong faith, their attacks have been harsher than the actual tragic events that I have indeed survived [albeit with much physical and mental scar tissue], along with having been the recipient of several miracles since birth, accompanied by decades of "strength-building" suffering. Yeah, to cite just one, no ten year old has been naughty enough to deserve cancer; and then again at 12, and again at 29, and twice more, the most recent just mm away from my brain. And those have not been the most serious of my medical challenges. Never liked the saying what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, but it might have some truth woven into it. All the undeserved cruelty the first half of my life would have killed most folks I know, but contributed to my survival of things people have told me they would not have been able to endure, and then have departed saying or at least feeling that they are so grateful that my life has not been their life. Heh, glad I could be of service in that way! [j/k]. ps1: now we know that bread is about the worst thing we can give to water fowl and others -- please research whay IS better! ps2: You're right, Steve, the trail of bread crumbs to 'teach' your daughter was just mean, not educational or funny. Poor Bella [I can relate, from constant and much worse experiences].

The man in the office was committing spiritual abuse, which is giving a wrong picture of God to others. If such a question is not challenged, it can act like a curse. I have met 2 people who were wrongly accused of doing wrong when they had not and they both suffered from chronic fatigue (M.E.) immediately after that. At the end of the book of Job, God rebuked those who had accused Job wrongly. They had misrepresented God. Jesus said, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father”. We must believe the words of Jesus rather than those of human beings. People all around us have wrong beliefs, false worldviews and have believed lies. Somehow we have to ‘destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ’, to quote 2 Corinthians 10:5.

@@cynthiafisher9907 Eliphaz was Job's friend. He came to visit Job when Job was sick, and deserves credit for that. He tried to make Job feel better. He didn't say the right thing. Why would anyone expect people today to be any different? I rented a room in an older lady's home when I was a university student. Her friend, who had been undergoing chemotherapy treatments, and who had lost her hair, came to visit. The first thing my landlady said was, "Oh, Cathy. You look so well. Your wig is very natural. Nobody could ever tell you have cancer." Cathy started to cry.
