One episode I'll never forget from Ultimate Alien is "Catch a Falling Star." One of the darkest episodes from my childhood. Like, so many people were killed, not to mention the Stockholm Syndrome situation. Other standouts are "Prisoner Number 775 is Missing", "Hit 'Em Where They Live", and "The Purge". While UA has some ups and downs, it's still my favorite series in the franchise.

Why, ​@@spartanking1405? Ben has killed many times before, no matter if they’re innocent or not if they are evil/too far gone Ben will kill his enemies. Just ask the burned enslaved DNA humans he killed in “Max Out”, or the Squid Aliens from “They Lurk Below”. It’s always in his character to kill his enemies. I do agree that the dilemma was poorly written, but it’s not because Ben wants to kill; again that’s always in his character as a hero. The problem is that like you alluded to, Kevin is his friend and they should’ve written the dilemma around that instead of this narrative that this “isn’t Ben”.

The weirdest episode that still shocks me was one where Professor Paradox shows up...and it's obvious they are in the middle of a town that was used for nuclear testing, like in Alamos or somewhere else. And it's incredibly creepy somehow. This guy is from the past, the future, the now, another now...went insane and then became sane because he got bored. He is cool, an ally, but it just felt so creepy in a way. A guy that can be everywhere and nowhere in time and you can't really know. That was nice 🤷

18:10 I think that Ben and Gwen are fully aware of what absorbing alien energy does to Kevin and the fact that he chose to do it solely to save their lives. So it kinda makes since for both of them to immediately forgive him. Also there’s an extra layer for Ben because he would most likely feel somewhat responsible for Kevin going off the deep end since he couldn’t stop the villain in addition to it being him (or least a version of himself) that convinced Kevin to absorb the Ultimate Omnitrix in the first place.

It's also very in character for Ben and Kevin to skip over the awkward forgiveness talk for a while and approach it later (read: when they're force to). They're not exactly the best at heavy topics, so going for a smoothie to relax after this big issue is finally passed them sounds about right. Gwen doing a heel-turn is slightly off-beat, but like you said, they know exactly what happened and are mostly happy to have him back to normal. Now, does Kevin need to go make up for some of the shit he pulled? Yes. He put someone in the hospital for $8. I just assumed the ones he'd actually feel bad about were handled off-screen.

To defend ultimate alien here for a second, when Kevin turns back to his normal self, it really is like a Jekyll and Hyde situation. It wasn't really him talking and acting, but a dark twisted part of him that took control. So when he gets turned back to normal, they treat him the same that they did before all that happened.

The thing that keeps pushing me away from omniverse is... they just rewinded all Ben's growth throughout alien force and ultimate alien for nothing, simply because "they had better ratings when ben was a cocky brat you wanted to hit in the face". Its no wonder Julie left him in such a harsh way, the omniverse version of him is the most insufferable of them all T__T His cocky attitude makes him take a lot of L's in rather easy fights he could've owned like a champ if you put a late ultimate alien Ben in his shoes, he keeps picking unfavorable matchups, omnitrix starts giving him random bs aliens again because apparently russian roulette is fun i guess, and even when he finds out why ("you keep hitting this subtle instrument with all your strength when turning") he continues to do so regardless. I couldn't watch much more of that version of him after that... No offense of course, I probably just have different priorities in shows.

@@robloxify sure, he did turn bratty in af s3, and i hated that, but he thankfully turned back in ua, maybe not completely, but mostly. I'm not against the random aliens concept per se but he was shown to outgrow both his bratty side and his random alien problem, he was shown to be more effective at dealing with problems in af s1-2, and now in omniverse they suddenly completely reverted his growth, both mental and power wise, again, and, it seems, for good this time. I really appreciate growth of characters in media, its probably the most important aspect for me in a good story, and in the end I stayed till the middle of season 4 but nothing really changed for what i consider to be "the better" and I ultimately lost interest. Seems like the show is not for me.

Heads up, if you decide to watch Omniverse you’re going to want to look up the series production order. Omniverse is notoriously the series that had its release schedule tampered with by executives the most. Instances of this being seen is the sequence of events the viewer would see, like Ben unlocking an alien being a huge deal, but several episodes previously he used that alien very nonchalantly. That being said Omniverse is by far my favorite iteration of Ben 10. Sure it has its problems but it’s really a fun watch.

McDuffie was a legendary part of this series and the superhero genre and comic book medium in general, having not just created Static but also the entirety of Milestone Comics, something made to introduce more black voices into the comic industry. Milestone really worked for him, having been able to not only make iconic heroes like Rocket and Static but also introducing more black heroes and creators into comics, stamping his mark onto the DC Universe in a very impactful way as a writer. His work on the Ben 10 series will not be forgotten, especially with how Ben's grown as a character. Thank you for trucking on with this retrospective series. Can't wait for the Omniverse video.

Going off of your "Marvel Shows" speech, I agree with you, I can't believe superhero media went from being cheesy-ish, 22 minute self contained stories with a small continuing storyline, to 1 super serious story line that, although only branches out once in a while, is way complex, to us wanting cheesy-ish stories again. And sure we've had that a little bit with marvel cartoons, but they definitely don't have the quality things like Justice League had. But hopefully that'll start happening sooner or later.

It does understands how it works, it's just that it isn't a "natural" evolution. The watch is controlling every possible variable to make sure that all evolutionary pressures push the DNA into the "kill machine" direction instead of what would actually happen. That's why they explained that all Ultimates were more "combat oriented", which is how you end up with a giant ankylosaurus with machine gun hands

I really want to see your review of Omniverse. I know it gets a lot of flak from the community, but it’s actually my favorite segment of the classic continuity. I will absolutely affirm that it’s not perfect. But it’s drama vs comedy balance was the best of the four. Maybe not for everyone but this is my opinion. It also had some of my favorite episodes of the franchise and Ben’s egotism is well balanced so it doesn’t make the whole episode frustrating to watch like some UAF episodes. (Ghost Town from AF comes to mind for me.)

Not really, the celestial sapians shown in ultimate alien didn't had their personality balanced and due to this they were in argument and thus didn't do anything in ultimate alien. While in omniverse those celestial sapians had balanced personality and thus they interfare.

I would love to see a follow-up video for Omniverse! It has some of my favorite episodes of the entire franchise, along with some of the best one-off jokes Ben 10 has to offer, and I personally think a lot of the major arcs were well done from a story-telling perspective. Ultimate Alien is honestly my favourite series of Ben 10. I have a lot of nostalgia for it, so there is some bias, but I also like a more cocky Ben. Provides some more interesting dynamics to the group imo

Omniverse is a mixed bag for me. It has some of the highest highs, but also some of the lowest lows. It is very polarising, but i sat through it and in the end I will say, it is not as good as the original, but I like it more than Ultimate Alien at the very least.

Omniverse will be a trip. Overall I think it's fun. It has some good moments and some meh moments. It has some phenomenal moments and some garbage ones. At the core tho it's still Ben 10 so it's still fun. Can't wait to see that video

Ultimate Alien is a weird one for me. I remember quite liking it for the Aggregor/Ultimate Kevin arcs. But once we got to the Forever Knights vs Flame Keeper's Circle, I really just felt myself checking out. The ending especially where Vilgax once again became the franchise's buttmonkey. Which sucks because I think a lot of the new aliens are really cool. Water Hazard is actually one of my favorites. And even the "Ultimate" gimmick was cool in theory with Ultimate Spidermonkey and Echo Echo, but it felt underutilized. Mostly because it wasn't used much and even then, it only rarely made an actual difference on the aliens. What's the difference between regular Cannonbolt and Ultimate Cannonbolt. Uh. Ultimate is pointier I guess.

I do like how the concept of Ultimate Cannonbolt makes less sense in theory, as the spikes should mess up his speed. Then again it isn't explained how Cannonbolt can see when he rolls anyway so maybe it's fitting.

I liked the ultimate designs that really went far with it. Ultimate Big Chill and Cannonbolt aren't that different, though I do think Ultimate Big Chill looks cool. Ultimate Humungousar I would say is a far enough change to be acceptable, and could act as a benchmark for differences in forms.

Ultimate Alien was actually a pretty good installment of the series, imo. I really liked the escalation brought about by the Ultimate Forms and I felt like this series ironed out Ben's characterization at that sweet spot between "messiah" and "dumbass."

Some of the redesigns are very bad, but others are better than the originals, and for the most part I enjoy all the new aliens! The new characters, like Rook, Blukic and Driba are all very enjoyable! Ben had like 60 something aliens(according to the comments) by the end of this series. It's too many(I originally said this but now I disagree) and some of them started do the same thing like you said. He had two speed aliens, three fire aliens(I didn't even think of this), two aliens that eat things, etc.

They even had an episode in Omniverse where Ben kept getting electric aliens. I didn't realize he had 6 electric guys until they acknowledged it (Frankenstrike, Buzzshock, Brainstorm, AmpFibian, Shocksquatch, and Feedback).

That's actually one of the big problems I had with Alien Force and *especially* Ultimate Alien on rewatch. So many of the new aliens were objectively superior to the OG roster. Swampfire was Heatblast+Wildvine, Big Chill was Ghostfreak+Arctic-something, Echo Echo was Ditto but more broken, Alien X was literal God, Ultimates made all others obsolete etc. Also Ben could switch forms anytime, which removed pretty much all tension when he could just slap his chest anytime when he got the wrong form

They already did monster of the week in season 1 of agents of shield. They weren't 22min but I thought the show was pretty good, but the quality went ALL over the place throughout the runtime. Would probably work well for a long video essay topic.

And agents of f shield is great, and its by jed whedom and his wife i think and sister, but lik any hedon show it just gets better, and the characters, really diverse even, and good fights, and most surprising of all, she had an amazing growth. And good characters, villains . And its aperently really good at adapting comicbook material. like season 4s matrix arc, inhuman (or rather allowed mutants) . and season is amazing . And hits. season is, god at following. Its really good an it really gets started after season 1, its a good inttro thou.
