I've been following both Caitlin & Paige since highschool. They are both amazing team players with great personalities & ethics. Paige had issues with injuries but prior was every bit as good as Clarke and at times better. For the task of trailblazing the WNBA its probably better that Caitlin got there first. There are other players beside these that are outstanding as well. If the WNBA can hold out the emerging crop of players in the next few years should spark interest to get people to watch & go to the games. They are fun to watch and play hard.

@@Reginald-p2p Actually, no. CC is a more prolific scorer, but at notably lower efficiency than Paige: 2023-24 stats: FG% -- CC 45.5%, PB 53.4%; 3-pt % -- CC 37.8%, PB 41.8%. Paige also had more steals (86-68) and blocks (53-20). Paige is a little more versatile, being able to play positions 1-4. Yes, Iowa and CC scored a lot of points in her senior year, but they had to in order to overcome their relatively poor D. Last year, UConn gave up 57.2 ppg in 39 games (29th in the NCAA), while Iowa gave up 71.9 ppg in 39 games (319th in the NCAA). And UConn managed that despite playing six Top 25 teams in the regular season (including South Carolina) in extra-league play. Very, very rarely do run-and-gun teams win championships... because defense wins championships. The guy at Awful Coaching puts out YT videos that critique basketball defenses, and this was his go at the Indiana Fever (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJW1Xpmor8SZbJY). The interesting thing about this is that I've seen nothing but these attacks about defenses in the pros, until he put up five videos about how good CC is (e.g., kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJS7q4B6gceLpck).

No. Some players do well at UConn and their exposure there gets them chances at the WNBA they wouldn't get at other schools, with the best single example of that being Lou Lopez Senechal. Others don't do well there, at least partly because Geno is a hard coach. Why would a high-school player recruited by UConn not seriously consider going there? She would get a lot more exposure there than she would at most schools, because UConn gets lots of televised games against highly-ranked opponents and she'd be nearly guaranteed of playing in the NCAA tournament. And better success than what? Than Maya Moore? Than Diana Taurasi? Than Breanna Stewart? Than Sue Bird?

Pete took 38 shots/game to Clark's 20. Give her 18 extra shots each game at her career .462 fg % = 8.16 made shots/game or an extra 16.32 points per game X her 139 game career = an extra 2,268 points for a total of 6,219 points in her career. Pete had 3,667 in his career. He averaged roughly 1,200/season so if he had played a fourth season he would have ended his career with about 5,000 points. He didn't have the three point line but he did have his dad as his coach. Caitlin led the NCAA in scoring and assists twice, no other women's player has done that even once. However, contrasting men versus women's records isn't a fair or reasonable way to compare the players or their games. Just give much respect to both and enjoy the show.

No matter how many shots Pete took in 3 years it can never be equal to only playing 3 instead of 4 years and not having 3 point shot. Not even close and his father didn't put the ball in the hoop coach or not. Both are great shooters in their era.All Pete had to do his freshman year is average 15 points a game and no one would come close to breaking his scoring record. Give them both their due.

Wrong! Not one team when i was being recruited out of high school (which at the time players couldn't talk directly to recruiters unless a parent was there) to college (this is baseball but it all applies being division 1) did i need to "hunt" or " ask ". They are in the stands, they are watching as well as the pro scouts. I was in summer league, playing against colleges and played against UCLA. Coach Adams was there at the time and he knew about me. He stopped the pre workout with his team, cleared the field and asked me to go to shortstop to take ground balls. Worked me out. Then the game started. Their scout came to my dad and went over information and asked if i had already committed. You received questions on sat scores or to fill out forms to submit etc. Nobody i knew had to hunt/ask to go to school if you were a top player teams were looking at. If a school isn't coming after you, then you are not usually on their radar. I would rather play and start for the 3rd ranked team, than go to the top ranked teams school after i asked to go there and probably/maybe not start, maybe not get a full scholarship, to jus sit and rot on the bench with not much playing time. The top schools that wanted me , all of them were straight up, where i fit in , if and who i would be competing with or no competition, and other information. You not on their radar, you haven't been recruited by them, WHY would you go there and give them all the leverage and control? Not worth it. Sorry for the book, but that arrogant UConn coach is wrong. That is what happens when success goes to your head. ( unless the ncaa has changed and now a student in high school is able to talk to scouts and recruiters)

Geno missed on Clark because he thought he was better than he really was. Coaches like Geno start to get the big head when it’s the talent that wins the games. Is he a good coach, yes he is a good coach. I think that he is better at finding top talent. Paige has stayed hurt for most of her college career. She has not had two full years playing at ucon.

Kind of silly, actually. Good players find ways to make other players better. I know that is the case with both of these ladies. This is why the head to head thing is often silly. They will be going after it for the next two decades and adding huge triple-figure revenue gains to the WMBA, often with little more than the dribble and pass.

For the record, CC shot 7/21 from the field and 4/12 from 3, terrible. moreover, she banked in a 3 from the CORNER, a totally lucky shot. She should have shot 6/22 and 3/12, absolutely horrendous. She also had only 5 assists and 3 rebounds.....and 5 TOs! Paige shot 7/18, but 2 were half court heaves ending periods. So, basically she 44% from the field and 50% from 3, and had 9 boards, 8 assists and only 2 TOs. More importantly, Iowa was a big underdog but they hit a 3 to cut the lead to single digits half way through the 4th. Now all the pressure was on UConn, so Paige nailed a 3. Iowa came right back down and hit another 3 to cut it to single digits again, and Paige answered again with another 3 to put Uconn back up by double digits and that was it. CC didn't score in the entire forth qtr until a minute left ( in your "highlights ") on a drive that Bueckers did not contest, not wanting to foul. That's it, 2 pts in the 4th on an uncontested layup after the game was decided.....in a contest that as within 8 points in the 4th, twice, when the stars needed to step up to advance to the elite 8. Paige did, twice, to break their backs. CC shrank to nothing.

Paige is going to get creamed in the WNBA. Clark is carrying a fair bit more muscle than Paige is and CC is getting knocked around a lot. WNBA is extremely physical. Paige needs to seriously beef up or she will get turned to mulch every game.

Yeah, and I think CC has been hitting the gym more as a pro. Paige also already had an ACL tear. Players get “careful” with physicality because of the fear that it might happen again. Most if not all, tend to be less aggressive in their plays after a major injury.
