Informative video as always. One way to use range rulers is to double-check or verify the Rule of 11.

Another very frequent example of measuring for pilot abilities is Boba. When he attacks or defends for the first time in each round you can measure to see how many ships are at range 0-1 for the purposes of his ability. Some other great suggestions in other comments about measuring range i.e. nubs on bombs etc and nubs on bases not counting. Would love to see a quick tips on jamming

You should do a quick tips on jamming. Talk about if a ship has two green tokens and gets jammed if the person jamming chooses which green token. Or if a ship has two locks who chooses which token is removed.

I think one good option is to use the ruler that the card text indicates. 0-1 use a range 1 ruler, etc.

I still love Sense. Free to use at 0-1 but you are allowed to check for 2-3 for the purpose of Target Lock perhaps. Sort of related it is important to note setup and how to place the range ruler in relation to the board edge, for similar reasons.

Knowing range can influence a myriad of decisions varying from maneuvers for the next round and performing actions that require range for other ships in your squad. Love these videos. I do concur with a video on jamming and/or coordinate being useful.

By knowing range to enemy ships you are able to also plan your next move. I'm very happy they changed the rules to when you can do it. I would love to see in core set a range 1 2 3 and in the rules placed u can only use that range ruler when used for abilities.

I always use the knowledge that 1 range is equal to 2.5 small bases to prepare my engaging ships for the next time they move. Something that I get asked often at league nights is if you can reload a rigged cargo chute because the token is in the device section. I always answer no, because it is an elicit upgrade instead of a device upgrade, unless that person has Jabba crew in the list or somehow got chopper astromech on the same ship.

One of the many things you can do when measuring range is better estimate your maneuver options next round. A lot of people understand straight maneuver speeds (1 straight = 1 small ship base length, 2 straight = 2 small ship base lengths, etc.) but there are other correlations. Playing with small base ships, you can measure range 1 from your ship's peg and know the exact peg location if you completed an 1 bank maneuver. Measuring starting centerline to finishing centerline of the 2 bank maneuver is also the same length as range 1. This information can also be used if you're flying/ flying against bombers. A bomber with no turret or rear arc usually has no business measuring behind it during the engagement phase because this could be seen as measuring range for dropping bombs during next round's system phase.

What about the Force Upgrade Sense: - Can you measure a ship and choose not to spend the Force if it is more than range 1? - Can you measure all opponents ships to try to find one at range one, and choose not to spend the force if none is? Or if in the first question you are forced to spend the force, can you choose between all opponents ships for one in the "free range"?

Hmm I'm still confused about the whole ignoring obstacle effects ruling: For example: Does a ship with collision detector on and trick shot get the extra attack dice while shooting from an asteroid it is ignoring the effects of? Q: What does “ignores obstacles” mean? Do Han Solo [Pilot, Customized YT-1300] and Qi’ra [Crew] work together? What about Dash Rendar [YT-2400] and Outrider [Title]? A: When an effect says a ship “ignores obstacles,” it means that ship “ignores the effects of obstacles.” A ship that is “ignoring obstacles” does not apply the effects of overlapping or moving through them. When that ship performs an attack that is obstructed by an obstacle it ignores the effects of the obstruction, so the defender does not roll 1 additional defense die being obstructed by the obstacles the attacker is ignoring. However, the obstacles are still treated as being present for effects that check for their presence or absence. Additionally, an attack is obstructed by an obstacle even while the effects of the obstacle are ignored. This applies to cards such as Outrider, Han Solo [Pilot, Customized YT-1300], and Trick Shot (Talent). Additionally, other ships do not ignore the obstacle when resolving effects that interact with a ship that is ignoring obstacles. For instance, while a ship that is ignoring obstacles defends, if the attack is obstructed, it still rolls 1 additional defense die because the attacker is not ignoring the effects of obstacles.

Well it could influence a decision you make on spending or saving a token defensively rather than using it on offense. I.e.: you measuring from the target to you instead of from you to a target might allow you to get a better idea of a close arc and / or they may be out of range for their arc, thus you realize there is no reason to save the token for defense because now you know you can be attacked. That’s gaming the system and tbh cheating. Another type of information is you can gauge future maneuver lengths by knowing the approximate distance of a maneuver template when compared to the range ruler and get an idea about bumps or obstacles and if you can get close to things without risking an actual consequence. There’s definitely more examples but there are a couple.

Do folks use astroid and debris placement as tool for estimating range? Like I know if you place an asteroid on the out boundary it can tell you that you can make a 4K turn. But for using to time the first engagement? Maybe so you can get you ordinance off or boost within it.

Asking for my peace of mind. Should you mark any ship in the way, and move them out of the way of the attacker and the potential targets when measuring for range? Players that I know play it loose when measuring by "hovering" the range ruler over the play mat.

Could you do a video on bumping ships? The rulebook states that a ship cannot be at range zero when attacking, but it does not make it clear if they mean range 0 from the model bases or range zero from the attacking arc. So for example a ship may bump, but the part of its base with its attack arc is not bumping. Can it attack? As far as I know it cannot but the rulebook is not very clear. Thanks for the awesome vidoes!

It's not explicitly in the rules, but once you've declared your action, you should be committed to that action. Otherwise you could attempt a barrel roll, find out there isn't room and choose to take a different action, which defies the point of failed actions.

The ship attempting the lock action can measure range to any object (any ship except itself, obstacle, and device) on the board then lock one object within range 3 unless it has an ability to lock outside of range 3. Page 12 & 13 of FFG rules reference. You could be considered a... jerk if you measured range to an object that you clearly couldn't get a lock on.
