In reflecting, I think the advice to build in a week of non-work time, makes a lot of sense. In fact I would suggest a person really look at their own situation and, if they can afford to take more time between jobs, and its OK with the new employer, they should do so. American workers already have the shortest amount of vacation days among industrialized nation and the time between jobs may be the only time a person has to deeply reflect on where they are in life, reconnect with themselves and the important people around them, and just catch up on sleep. The dividend to them and their new employer is that they will start refreshed and better centered and then be more able to focus on doing the best in their new job.

Absolutely! Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed response, We (USA culture) are go-go-go all the time, and that is a quick route to burnout. Take some time off to prepare for this new journey!

I had a twety-two year buffer time and just had my first interview a week ago. Let's see where this goes?

What if you are not currently working and do not require relocation, what would be an acceptable answer?
@LifeWorkBalanceАй бұрын
I'd ask when is the soonest they'd like you to start. Do they know you're not currently working? If so, they probably need some time on their end to do some administrative stuff, but could likely get you started as soon as the beginning of the next pay period (or even sooner!).

What's wrong with "I could start immediately" ?

Shows desperation

If you’re not currently employed, starting immediately isn’t an issue! If you’re currently employed and you say immediately, your new employer may be worried about you giving them zero notice when it’s time for you to move on.

What if current job notice period is 2 months
@Jfarmerthunder2 ай бұрын
They give you a 2 sec notice to fire you so don’t worry if they shun you for wanting to improve yourself that says a lot about them

Wow - where is that listed? Is it in a contract you signed?
