Great video. I was born in '65. My Dad had the Meet the Beatles and The Beatles Second Album and I remember wearing those out (still have them). I remember thinking of the allure of the British imports, saved lawn cutting money and eventually, got a box set of the EMI/Apple releases and then the CDs (and seemingly all the other releases of those British releases). But you are right. I still think of Meet the Beatles. I can't imagine "I Want to Hold Your Hand" not being included on that LP. The LP and the energy behind it is perfect. Glad you're feeling better!

Hi. I have my cd Capitol albums box sets Tm with the inner trays that easily bend and silly design cos they give you those eight albums as is, just done the best they could, Volume One being a Christmas present in 2004. It is telling on the Hoffman Forum both of us know, there people who plainly have never heard the mono versions which as I was mentioning to Dad earlier probably had a lot to those of us who bought these from the late 60's to the mid 80's of course only got the stereo so didn't realize some of the echo and that wasn't on the mono's at all. These records are just an attempt to give people what many mainly Americans experienced, the way it was experienced that as much as the British albums were the Beatles own intent, were what made them such a massive lasting influence. And those track lists were a part of that. I'm glad they are coming out for those of us who either grew up with them or enjoy alternate selections and recognize their importance. Finally Mazzy, do look after yourself and your voice - it's needed apart from owt else!

George Martin's whole "we never included singles on an album, we thought it was cheating the fans" line is nonsense. There were 4 single tracks on Please Please Me, 4 single tracks on A Hard Day's Night, 2 single tracks on Help, 2 single tracks on Revolver. I have to wonder if it was him trying to make himself feel better about not insisting that Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields go on Sgt. Pepper despite being a single.

I got all the Beatles albums as they came out in the 60s. When the CDs of the British versions came out, they didn't sound right to me, because I was used to all the reverb and other things they did here at Capital. I remember in particular, the first time I heard the UK version of I Feel Fine, I thought it sounded empty -- I missed all that clanging symbols and reverb. Since I heard that song thousands of times in the 60s, I'm still partial to the US version, even though it wasn't the one the Beatles wanted.

I can remember buying the moni albums for just under $2.00, and my first stereo Beatles album was the Second Album which went for about $2.50. I bought many of them from Safeway, which is something you don't see these days. I would guess that the Cassette & CD eras put the kibosh to grocery stores selling music. Not knowing anything about the EMI records, I just thought that it was the norm to have the singles on the albums. Like you, Mazzy, I was sure glad they did that over here. I bought Beatles '65 bbefore we even had a stereo/record player, and convinced my mon to get one of those fold over jobs with trading stamps. Weird times in the gold mine for sure.

This boxset release is an essential addition to any Beatles collection as it showcases how they were being presented to the American music listening public. I'm sure they'll sound just fine in mono unlike the 2014 cd boxset which you have pointed out. In Australia 🇦🇺 With the Beatles and Beatles for sale had unique album covers for the Australian market. The photographic artwork for With the Beatles infuriated John Lennon so much that he demanded it was not to be sold like that when he saw it on The Beatles June 1964 Australian tour.

I'm 68 now and started collecting when I was 11 back in 67. Dad was tight with the allowance and while I could petition for supplemental buys, the weekly dole was 25 cents to spend as I pleased. I was the oldest so no older sibling influences or records to listen to. Living in a new town to us, this suburb had garage sales and started hitting them to stretch the allowance. A 45 back then was 99 cents so a month to save for a new disc. I bought my first Beatles record Please, Please Me for a nickel. A week later at another garage sale, I found another PPM but with a label variation and I remember the moment-something clicked an AHA moment and my collecting started. I'm around 1300 records/CDs/45s/box sets in. Still buying but not as much. I also benefited from friends whose older sisters had moved out or married and was given their old discs.

I like your commentary in general, and this one is really good. I'll have to watch even more of your videos. I noticed that the 1964-1974 10 years of Beatles card that you showed does not list the "Let It Be" album. When I first listened to albums like "The Beatles' Second Album," when I was 11, I thought that the reverb on the intro of songs like "Roll Over Beethoven" and "I Call Your Name" made them sound like they were playing them live in a large auditorium. Just to point out a detail: most of the Capitol albums had 11 songs each (2nd Album, Something New, Beatles '65, Beatles VI, Yesterday and Today, and Revolver). Only Meet the Beatles, A Hard Day's Night (UA LP), Help, and Rubber Soul had 12 tracks in the US.

My first import was in 1983-84, around there. It was Rubber Soul and I thought "good, my old one's beaten up, I could use a replacement". In the mid-60s, my elder brother drove a car which had a device that would add reverb to any radio station's playlist. I, being very, very young, thought this was an incredible thing. I would often beg my brother to take me along wherever he was driving to just so I could use this faux echo chamber gizmo. Ironically today, I prefer listening to music (except for Elvis Presley) that has as little reverb as possible.

Firstly, I wish you a full and speedy recovery. I always enjoy your videos. The Capitol releases, I can tell, mean everything to those who grew up with them in the US. That thing you talk about being able to hear the next track before it begins, I fully appreciate it. The thing about this release is that it is alien to me (I won't use the Royal we!). The release sort of annoyed me because I have a view of what I would like to see released that is slightly different to yours. That's fine I'm from the UK and you're from the US. We have a different history of the band from the point of view of when and how we experienced them and we cannot change that. It is an inbuilt thing that cannot be unlearned. So we can agree to differ on this release. I won't be going for this, but I fully understand why you will. I will still enjoy your reviews of what emerges as your enthusiasm is infectious and I can divorce the disappointment I have for the non-appearance of (let's say Rubber Soul for want of a better placeholder) an expected continuation of the last few year's output for this US themed set. In my mind, I'm mentally reallocating the cost of this set to a forthcoming, and long-awaited, huge box set of Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band recordings that are finally due for an appearance, so in a way we have a strange logic playing out! You can't really get more British than Viv and Co. so the fact that they benefit from my patronage is symbolic, I guess. Once again, glad to see a new video and hear that you are on the mend. Keep up the good work, it is appreciated.

You mention the Beatle singles not being on the albums. I think they made the BIG mistake by not putting Hey Jude on the White Album. I would relegate Revolution #9 to the B-side of a single and move Hey Jude into that slot. IMO that would take the White Album up a few notches. And... I would put the single for Revolution in there too. It's a great pairing with Back in the USSR. Just those two titles added to the White Album and two taken off would improve what is already a great album. Must make a playlist...

Rock and roll music should sound “hot”, the louder, the better, the more echo, the better, IMO. That being said, there might be a bit too much reverb on some of the tracks on the Capitol LPs, ( ‘I Feel Fine’ and ‘She’s A Woman’ are the worst, even on the mono Beatles ‘65), but the U.K. albums always sounded a little weak to me. There definitely needed to be a middle ground between the two. And I agree with you that the mid 2000s Capitol Albums CD releases were packaged HORRIBLY!😂

I am 1,000% with the people who first heard Beatles on capital and then when they heard the Parlophone versions were very put off. Take that Brit purists!

"I grew up with it" is not a valid reason for me to spend 300 bucks on an overpriced product, but reading these comments it appears that lots of people think differently. You can still pick up any of these albums easily in great shape for cheap. I'm 25 and I own nearly all of them, which is proof itself: I am not wealthy and i purchased most of these as a teen in San Francisco around 2014-2016. Come on folks, if "I grew up with it" is the best reason you have to drop 300 bucks, you might want to reconsider the purchase!
