Bangalter’s father was a big time disco producer in France during the 1970s and 1980s. He even wrote Bananaramas first hit. The records that Daft Punk mine for their samples are disco and soul records from the same era. Bangalter likely grew up hearing a lot of these tracks, and probably dug through his father’s record collection. As for Guillaume Emmanuel de Homem-Christo, he is descended from Portuguese aristocracy that fled to exile in France.

@@neongrau3804 If you think “playing techno in various clubs for 10 years“ makes you an authority on all dance music then you’re a pretentious goober. Even if you don’t like the pop EDM genre, Dave puts on well-crafted shows which to me ultimately makes him a good DJ. And yes, he does mix live. He probably also plays pre-recorded sets at big festivals but he’s far from the only one that does at that level and I frankly don’t really care as long as it’s entertaining. I’m not even the biggest fan of his but to deny his credibility after the career he’s had as a DJ is kind of silly.
