When did Beetlejuice fall in love with Lydia (Explained)

I consider the cartoon in its own continuity, since the Neitherworld is not an afterlife, but an alternate dimension. The Maitlands never existed, and Winter River is not the same name. BJ also was born into the netherworld, while in the movies he's quite clearly having been someone who died.

@@watertommyz Yes, they did change some elements. I consider Adam and Barbara not being in the cartoon because they found that loop hole but it doesn't match with Lydia's age change. Otho also didn't appear in the cartoon after getting scared off by Beetlejuice. Delia had a sister but Otho could still exist but not make an appearance. Having the Maitlands in the cartoon would've overshadowed Beetlejuice. The cartoon showed Beetlejuice being a ghoul even as a baby. I will make several videos about the movie and cartoon differences. There are still elements and hidden Easter eggs in the cartoon that can be considered canon and that show a continuity of the first movie but also connecting it to the sequel.

What really made me think “oh, for reals??” Was when Beetlejuice went as far as injecting truth serum into Rory’s neck to expose his lies, gave Lydia a striped boxing glove to knock Rory out (gave HUGE animated series vibes and I loved Lydia’s cheeky smile before she punched Rory) and *actually* changed the wedding ceremony details to take Lydia’s preferences into consideration (eg private/small/family only vs Rory’s determination to make their wedding a huge deal for social media eg crowds and influencers). First movie, the wedding was a sham (was so obvious). In the sequel, it was obvious Beetlejuice was obsessed with Lydia. If their wedding was a sham like in the first movie, Beetlejuice would NEVER have gone as far as to save Astrid to make Lydia happy or look out for Lydia’s happiness/best interest when it came to dealing with Rory. He’d have made everything easy as possible (for him) just to get what he wanted. Like someone else said, the movie felt really romantic - and I don’t hate it. I actually ship Beetlejuice & Lydia 🫶🏻

For me he wasn't interested in her on the first movie at all, romantically speaking. (I've recently rewatched it 2 times and it's just my opinion). He only deceived her to be able to escape Neitherworld. He thought that girl was easy to deceive. Joke's on him because decades later, in his own macabre selfish way he's truly head over heels for Lydia (he's still a demon trickster though, it's his essence but I noticed his behaviour slightly changed for the better, specially with all things Lydia related). I loved your video, now I have your theory on my mind as well!

Oh he didn't decieve her at all actually. He said he wanted out of the afterlife and only wanted to marry her in order to get the equivelant to a green card so he could stay in the living world. He also kept his word and helped the Maitlands. He was very upfront about it.

It’s always possible that he did it out of selfish obsession with her, and saw some leverage to get what he wanted from her. I feel like if he did it just out of love, he wouldn’t have brought a contract into it.

Remember he was betrayed and murdered by his first love which is how he got trapped in the afterlife to begin with after his death was ruled a suicide and why he's so desperate to escape. So seeing Jeremy try to do the same thing to Astrid genuinely ticked him off.

Nice job. I felt the love her shared for Lydia in the sequel. Yes he watched her for years, and he may be a tad possessive, but he’s never harm her or her immediate family. The second wedding scene seemed genuine, like he wants to try and become a better ghost for her. I’d love a wedding in the third movie.

Great video! I think the scene when he turns into a snake is often overlooked. But if we look closely, there is evidence that he was already interested in her from before they first officially spoke: 1. When he catches Charles with his snake tail he tells him that he is coming for his daughter, this is strange, as if BJ has already seen Lydia and is warning that he wants her. 2. When he approaches her in snake form, we can see that he DOES NOT ATTACK HER, he just stares at her and suddenly stops the threatening noise he was making with his tail and before Barbara enters to send him to the other world, we can see that while he is watching Lydia, he slowly lowers his tail as if he doesn't want to scare her or he has become captivated by her.

​​@@giancarlojacobs9982 I know it's confusing . She was 16 in the original script. Not sure how old she was supposed to be in the movie since the action took place in Connecticut. There people can marry from age 16 with their parental consent. Lydia's parents were brought as witnesses but I don't think that Beetlejuice cared about her age since he just wanted to marry in order to return to the land of the living. He ended up developing feelings for her as he spied on her for years.

Great job!! 👏🏻 You put so much thought into your videos! 😊 It never occurred to me that Beetlejuice had been observing Lydia during the three months the Maitlands were in the Netherworld and had already grown very fond of her by the time she talked to him. But it makes perfect sense to me! There are plenty of pretty, quirky girls in the world: Beetlejuice could easily have tried to trick someone else into marrying him if all he cared about was getting married and it didn't matter who the girl was, since he had other clients, like you said. I think he just genuinely thought Lydia was very special! He even told Barbara, “I think she understands me.” Even though Lydia seems scared of Beetlejuice on the surface (understandably so), Michael Keaton has stated that she secretly WANTS to marry him! I still have hopes and dreams for a third and final film in which our BeetleBabes finally has a legitimate wedding!! 🥰💚💜

Considering how well Beetlejuice 2 did in the box office, we might get a 3rd movie. Now there are much more Beetlejuice x Lydia shippers. Keaton said that he hasn't had so much fun filming since the last Beetlejuice movie. He kept wanting a sequel and will definitely appear in a 3rd, if everything goes well.

i always knew that n the first one he never loved her, maybe was attracted to her, but really only cared about getting free, but in the sequel, i was pretty surprised of how romantic the movie felt, like even the ending gave me hope for maybe a third. the wedding scene itself made me cry so much, that im starting to become a shipper as before the sequel I never was but now im starting to be. on the other hand, Beetlejuice does seem to really get married again due to Delores chasing him, but maybe also to be with Lydia to, since he was stalking her for 36 years. do you think Beetlejuice truly loves her in the sequel and that its possible like winona and Michael mentioned secretly about the secret love between them, that these characters will soon be togethar?

Yes, he does look like he loves her to the point of obsession. He admitted to Lydia that he's been stalking her and if that means he had to do that in order to get back together with the love of his life then he was guilty as charged. Even in the wedding song, the lyrics showed the ones he cared for: during the images shown of Delores, himself, Lydia and a dog the lyrics were "out of all the loves of my life, you'd still be the one" or something like that. So he forgot about Delores completely after giving her ring to Lydia. Since for centuries he couldn't part with that ring to remarry and kept the ring in his pocket, lost somewhere since he could barely find it during his wedding ceremony with Lydia. He was still attached to Delores until he met Lydia. I explained more about that in my other video How Beetlejuice obtained his powers.

Plus they knew each other from Warner Brothers cartoon Network TV show series also entitled Beetlejuice. They started out as strange and unusual friends When they first started to bond with each other. but at some point during the cartoon Network TV show Beetlejuice both Lydia and Beetlejuice developed romantical feelings for each other. So both Lydia and Beetlejuice developed a romantical relationship and boyfriend and girlfriend. But it was this that got lost when Tim Burton did his first live action Beetlejuice film. So it was like they fell into a deep slumber and waking up as live action version of themselves. Live action version of themselves Beetlejuice was now known as Michael Keaton and Lydia of now known as Winona Rider. after seeing each other again and forgetting who each other are And what they were to each other.

She was still wearing the wedding ring Beetlejuice gave her, only when she went to the Neitherworld in her red poncho. In the first episode they were celebrating a one year anniversary. I made a video The cartoon continues the movie. In the cartoon they said that they were best friends but they shared some romantic moments and adult jokes only adults could pick up. That cartoon was full of Easter eggs.

But it’s not a genuine love because I started noticing a parallel around being a metaphor for toxic relationships and same for Renfield aka Nicholas Cage Dracula movie and it’s between Lydia and Rory, Beetlejuice and Delores and Astrid and the boy she crashed into which I can’t remember his name. But remember about the cartoon being canon to the first movie I watched this video on Beetlejuice cartoon by the Cartoon Watchers and this was a very interesting detail and also about the episode what Lydia’s life would be like without Beetlejuice? I can promote your theory and page without trouble and I can make a separate video about it since it's your idea and deserves a separate video with full credit. But I cant find your account. I only made this video because people were shocked that Beetlejuice loves Lydia. Seriously? Considering that Beetlejuice was the most honest by keeping his word to everyone but getting back stabbed at the end, I wouldn't consider his marriage to Lydia just a way to escape, since he could've married anyone after his marriage ended with Delores. Anyway, I'd like to read your theory too, to know what we are talking about. I don't get paid by YT for my videos. This is a fan account, mostly having Beetlejuice content. So I'm not desperate to steal other people's content, since I'm not getting paid. Some of my future Beetlejuice video ideas collected dust for years because I didn't have time to make videos. I barely got to post anything few years ago. I saw popular yt and Instagram accounts who steal content.
