The media continues to do this thing where they 'both sides' things to appear objective. They also extremely avoid talking about any progressive stuff, they barely give that side a toss but entertain everything else.... Our media is not on our side. If you are having a media diet in America and you're just watching CNN or msnbc guaranteed you are MISSING lots of important things.

This. Tbh, we know republicans don’t care, but democrats need to do the job they say they are going to do. The media is reporting what they see, what they’re seeing the public saying and doing. Will there be bias? Sure, but there’s always some truth to it.

The thing is, I'll be the first to criticize NYT and other outlets for their coverage of trans issues or of Israel. My complaint is that news media often is too flattering to the powerful and too willing to participate in oppressing marginalized people. So, it's soooo galling to see people complain about NYT failing to flatter the most powerful man in the world *enough.*

This, to me, is the tip off for exactly what l expected around 2 years ago. This was the plan. I think they wanted someone like Biden to saddle all the horrific things like COVID economic recovery, the war we involved ourselves in with Russia and Ukraine, the gross support of war in Palestine, etc. They needed a man that could be the figurehead for all this that they thought was “necessary.”

I get finding Bernie criticizing corporate media on corporate media funny, but it's like criticizing capitalism while living under it, we don't really have a choice. I remember when, in a dem primary debate, he said, after being criticized about Medicare for All, that there would be a healthcare ad during the interval and he was right. Corporate media is funded by and serves corporate interests, just like most politicians. The way to fix this is not to demonize media (and especially not individual journalists), but to create robust independent progressive media institutions both large and on a more local level. However, that takes political organizing and normal people being willing to give money and time to make this happen. That's why it's important to fund creators and independent media who are pushing the political conversation to the left. But also, there needs to be public policy to help small media institutions, we can't just expect us to win a game that's rigged against us by only playing harder.

I agree but I think it is important to point out the things Corp media are deliberately hiding from the American people by pushing special interests of insurance companies. That is a HUGE detriment to our society to convince entire populations they can't have Healthcare

This is insane. Bernie Sanders did Instagram lives with Cardi B in '16. AOC went viral using her social media accounts to explain her support of Biden. There are innumerable ways to circumvent corporate media if that's your desire. Of course he has a choice.

That's a good point, but my parents aren't watching Instagram lives and not everyone is on social media or has constant access to the internet. You reach different crowds through different media. I live in Brazil and there's a single TV channel (Globo) that is huge and the huge majority of people have access to it. Bolsonaro had a strong digital campaign because he had a hostile coverage by a big part of the mainstream media (including Globo), but he did show up to be interviewed, because he knows that Globo reaches more people than he would on his KZbin lives. Bernie got interviewed by Fox News (and criticized by many leftists and liberals) because he knows people watching Fox News aren't watching his interview with Cardi B.

@@ForHarriet619this. He’s a wealthy man who’s been in politics for decades. He lured the real left in, promising true free healthcare, only to throw his hands up and walk away. He did his job. People will say that he doesn’t vote 100% with the Democratic Party, that he’s still “trying.” No. He is their token vote to appease those on the left that are frustrated with but too scared to abandon them. We need real independent parties…if Jill Stein would re-brand herself as something other than a Green Party candidate, she might have had a chance.

How often do you engage with news media? I just looked over on the New York Times official KZbin channel to check their Gaza coverage because I've seen some great stuff. In the last 7 months there 0 videos sympathetic to Israel but the last 5 videos on Gaza are: Two Weeks Inside Gaza’s Ruined Hospitals | NYT Opinion How Aid Groups in Gaza Coordinated With IDF, but Still Came Under Fire | Visual Investigations Palestinian Photojournalist Motaz Azaiza Captured Gaza’s Suffering. @@ForHarriet619 If you’re only speaking of their KZbin channel you might have an argument, but CNN and NYT coverage of this genocide have been a disaster. From false rape allegations and misleading headlines to spreading propaganda about the college campus protests. But if you want to nitpick to their KZbin channel (for some reason), nowhere in those videos do they call it a genocide, nowhere do they interview Israeli officials and take them to task the way you can see them do with other world conflicts. They are expressing baseline sympathy with dead children and civilians, that is the bare minimum. Where is the journalism? How often do you engage with news media, Harriet?

But also leftists have been saying this about Biden/dems, but we get told we’re crazy and divisive. That’s all I’ll say, lol.
