An explanation of the process of using the default gateway to communicate with computers on remote networks. I show the difference between communicating with computers on the local network versus a remote network. Topics that are discussed are ip addresses, mac addresses, the host routing table, and arp cache.

Excellent. Never came across how packets are framed with which Ip address and which mac address while it travels to its destination. Always assumed only the final destination mac and Ip address will make a packet at source. Now understood, destination Ip is burned at the source but the mac in the packet keeps on changing as it travels all the way upto its destination. Job well done.

It is not at all easy thing to convey your knowledge in such simplest way. There are plenty of experts but what they lack is , the art of conveying technical things in the simplest manner like you did above. Trust me, I am out of words to appreciate your incredible skills.!!!! KUDOS..!!!

Very basic but very important topic who want to learn how a traffic moves from pc out on the other network devices from various switches to router's to firewalls . But we hardly focus on basics ..what route print output on your system means .how it decides to go out other network.really like your content... looking forward to more video's.

Thanks for the great video, would you mind telling me what role the ARP table/protocol has (if any) with external IPs besides containing the MAC address of the default gateway? Does it store those too?
@danscourses
@danscourses 3 жыл бұрын
ARP table does not see ip addresses on external networks only the mac-addresses resolved from mac-addresses on the local network. External addresses are sent to the default gateway's mac-address

My friend asked me for the numbers next to gateway on my network settings on my Xbox, thankfully I’m not dumb and I knew not to give him the numbers, I wanted to know what he could do if I did so I’m looking for what a gateway is, I’m not a very tech person, I was wondering what he was trying to do
