Do All Christians have the Holy Spirit?

I believe that when we believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit and are saved and sealed. My church used to be Methodist but is now Non-denominational, and they believe in baptizing in the Holy Spirit. After my baptism, I found that I was able to overcome the panic attacks I had been struggling with. On the day of my baptism, some people spoke in tongues at the altar, but I did not. I questioned this and felt reassured by the Lord that I possessed the ministry of reconciliation and should not envy the gift of tongues. I was content with this reassurance. However, a year later, my pastor called on those who had been baptized in the Holy Spirit but did not have their prayer language to come forward. After this prayer, I started praising in tongues. It was a remarkable miracle! I was able to switch between speaking in my native language and praising in my prayer language, without any extreme reactions such as falling, laughing, or shaking. I simply praised in tongues and then returned to my seat. This is my testimony. Nonetheless, I firmly believe that baptism or speaking in tongues is not a requirement for salvation.

One can only become a “believer” when simultaneously the Holy Spirit is received & then they believe. One cannot believe in Christ “without” the Holy Spirit because one is spiritually dead.

Corey, you are wrong this time brother. John 14:23 is proof that the believer upon their confession of faith receives the Holy Spirit, the Father and the Son. If all Christians had everything they needed at this point, there would have been no need for Pentecost. So now Believers don't experience a second, third or fourth Pentecost, we experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit and as we continue in fellowship and obedience to the Lord, we have times of being filled and empowered for Ministry. This was a necessity for the Disciples back then and it still is for all Believers today.

But it was only at Pentecost that the Holy Spirit was given...and for believers in Christ, post Pentecost, we receive the Holy Spirit upon regeneration. Trying to get the contradiction from what bro Corey said...

You absolutely receive the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation, but there are multiple fillings of the Spirit that a believer will experience throughout their life…this isn’t a matter of tongues even, but boldness, joy or any of the other fruits of the spirit that come out as a result of being filled with the spirit after your initial conversion. Also, this isn’t to say a believer doesn’t have the spirit, we always do, but we can be full of the Spirit or we can be submitted to the flesh.

Agree. We are given the Holy Spirit at salvation. We must walk fully in submission to God's Word, so we are completely filled. We have all the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. We need to deny ourselves in all areas of our lives so we walk in the full power of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:16, Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. Our sanctification is truly a lifelong work of the Holy Spirit. In our surrender and obedience to the Word, the fruits of the Holy Spirit will manifest in our character as we are led by the Spirit to become imitators of Jesus Christ.

We need Bible verses. And we need examples on the Bible of people having the Holy Spirit being filled. Multiple fillings of the spirit sounds cool to say but we stick to the Bible and what it speaks is true. Please break this down in context with verses. The fruits of the spirit come with understanding and trust in the lord not with an extra filling of the Holy Spirit. It’s with our walk with God, he doesn’t pour more into us we change willingly and gain the fruits like when you gain muscle because you work out. It’s something that’s growing inside of us not a second pouring.

@@dynamicking4966 how about this one. What other explanation do you have except that those who were filled with the Spirit at Pentecost or at their salvation, were also filled again with the Spirit for boldness. Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Brother Corey Minor, Thank you for striving to be a balanced teacher! As a teacher give us balance teaching on submitting to Spiritual Authority! Teach us what the Bible tells us about submitting to Spiritual Authority and your Ministry being submitted to Spiritual Authority! Hebrews 13:17 "Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you". 1 Peter 2:11-25 Discusses how to submit to authority in a respectful and loving way, even to those who may not be good leaders. Romans 13 "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established".

The Day of Pentecost is one of the most beautiful moments in biblical history if you think about it like this: God first divided His people apart at the time of the building of the Tower of Babel, by making everyone speak a different language and nobody understanding each other. Then, when the Day of Pentecost came, and when the Apostles began speaking Christ's message in the native language of everyone present, it was God reuniting His people back together in Christ.

I wasn’t going to comment. But I believe that when you ask God almighty to come into your heart and confess that Jesus Christ died for your sin so you could have eternal salvation is true and you’re saved. This is just my experience along my journey with God. The more I’ve walked with God, the more he reveals himself. Have I disappointed God along the way, most definitely. But when you seek after God with your whole heart, there are deeper things God will reveal. I have some blood relatives that I don’t know very well because I don’t hang with them like that or got to know them but we’re still related. But my father who I was raised around and I spent time around. I know when he’s pleased with me, when he’s happy, when he’s disappointed with me because I know my father. For me, I got saved and asked God to come into my life but I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit at another time. And when I received this gift from God Almighty, I knew beyond a shadow of doubt that this was different.

CAP! 1. Many are called but few are chosen. 2. Acts 19:1-6 people called disiples, called believers, but did not have the Holy Ghost, once water baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, Paul layed hand upon them, then Jesus baptized them with the Holy Ghost... 3. The Holy Ghost is given to those who obey God (see Acts 5:32)

That's exactly correct. And instead of taking up their cross and following Him, selling out to gain Him they allow the cares of this world to choke out the seed that was planted. One man sow (preaching the word), another waters (water baptizes), BUT God gives the increase (baptism of the Holy Ghost)! You can't out smart God He knows our hearts, thoughts ans intents. Again many are called but few are chosen. You tell be what that sounds like? Im just letting people know that the Holy Ghost is real and available. And not to believe a lie for the sake of pride. If you have not received the gift of the Holy Ghost you do not have the Holy Ghost period. And receiving Him is unmistakable. But don't get me wrong if a person is baptized in the name of Jesus they are saved from their sins. But being able to see the Kingdom of God is one thing. Having the right to enter into the Kingdom and being a citizen of the Kingdom of God is something else. See John 3:3-6. Submit to the word of God! Dont fight against it its for our benefit, but its going to be His way not our way. People want the world and have the Spirit too. Not so!

Repetition in scripture is very important. There are only three instances in scripture to where we are told of believers recieving the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved. In each instance, the first thing that happened when they recieved is that they spoke in " tongues".(Acts ch.2,10,and ch.19). The same threefold repetition is also used in Acts ch 2. After the believers recieved the Holy Spirit and began to speak in " tongues" three times the men in the crowd questioned how they were hearing the believers speaking in their native languages. The purpose of the threefold repetition here is to alert us that the miracle for the men in the crowd was one of Hearing what the believers were speaking in one spiritual language in their individual native languages. Lastly, there are two purposes for a threefold repetition in scripture: 1) To alert us to the presence of an important spiritual truth. 2) To set a precedent so that the same curcumstance mentioned elsewhere in scripture need not be repeated in as much detail.

There is a need for clarification. The difference of the Holy Spirit (in a measure) being IN a Believer with inward evidence of a change life (born again John 3:1-21; Romans 10:8-11; 1st Corinthians 12:3) vs the POWER (being full) of the Holy Spirit rested UPON a born again Believer with spiritual gifts given by the Holy Spirit for service within the body of Christ (Acts 1:4-8; Acts 7:55; 1 Corinthians 12:1-11; 1 Corinthians 12:27:31; etc.) (Speaking in the gift of tongues within the service of God in the church to bring a word from God by the ability of the Holy Spirit that must be interpreted to edify the body of Christ) and also an outward evidence of the presence of God resting on believers lives (Acts 1:8; Acts 10:1-48; Acts 19:1-7; 1st Corinthians 14:22; etc.) (the outward speaking of tongues given to the Believer by the Holy Spirit to identify and verify with evidence that God is with the believer). The Holy Spirit also helps the believer to Praying in tongues. The gift of tongues is given by the Holy Spirit to all believers who acts and want to receive the spiritual gift to strengthen the Believer inwardly to build them up spiritually ( Luke 11:13; Jude 1:20-23; etc.). May God continue to open the Eyes of the blind.

Many or some will claim it’s your faith or whatever but no one knows the mind of another except God along so I no longer listen to the nonsense. My salvation rests on what Christ done for us all with His sacrificial death and resurrection and nothing more.

We received the Holy Spirit after we believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (the Gospel). Then by obedient faith we repent, baptized in water into the name Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit (Spirit of Christ) will come in us. Christ will not come in until you repent.. and water baptism must never be administered until one repents. Sometimes the Holy Spirit comes in after water baptism. Jesus knows when one's heart is ready to receive him (Holy Ghost).

True, the disciples did not receive the SPIRIT in John 20. "All" in 1 Cor 12 is not ALL, it is all in the Corinthian Church. Baptism in the Spirit is not the moment when you believe, it may be for some, depending on God and where they are in the Holy Spirit working on them. But Gal 3:14, "through faith" through does not mean when you start. Act 5:32 "And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who _obey_ him.” Repentance (Acts 2:38), Obedience (Acts 5:32) and Faith (Galatians 3:14) is all parts of getting the baptism in the Holy Spirit. (And normatively, at least in Acts (except Cornelius and his house) Water baptism precedes. But you believe that water baptism passages refers to water baptism, so it is in "(..))

The blasphemy spoken of in the gospels was for the Jews of “that generation”. Never is blasphemy spoken of as a sin a gentile can commit. You are taking a Biblical concept and a very specific Jewish sin, and over applying it in a way the Bible does not give you permission to. Also, Read the whole book of Hebrews for context. Jesus was saying to Jews - to turn away from my sacrifice and return to animal sacrifice is death. There is no longer forgiveness in the law. Believing in Jesus is the only way to salvation.

So then are you also saying they cannot be saved the same way a gentile can by accepting Christ, baptism, and repentance??? If they can, then STILL OSAS is done even by your position! Btw, Galatians 3:28-29 suggest there are either no Jews in Christ or that we are ALL Jews in Christ so not sure what ground you are standing on with your claim...

I am a tongues person (i pray in tongues). Every believer receives the Holy Spirit at the moment of conversion and He the Holy Spirit is the SEAL. The filling of the Spirit or baptism of the Holy Spirit [with evidence of tongues or extravangant worship or boldness in declaring the gospel or truth of God] is a separate event which could happen simultaneously or at a later date. Corey who I respect most of his teaching except on this believed that your are not edified if you pray in tongues alone that nothing is happening. However he is unable to accept that this is one of many supernatural gifts that must be used properly in a fitting or orderly way in the assembly. Go crazy alone. But it is wrong to think that nothing is happening. it is a supernatural mystery. Preaching is also supernatural.

I agree with you. I love Corey’s teachings but the tongues thing is one of the few things I respectfully do not agree with him on.

Have your tongues ever been interpreted in a public setting? Do your speaking in tongues edify the body of Christ? Do you testify of Him to others when you speak in tongues? Do you spead the gospel good news when you speak in tongues?

I used to think I spoke/prayed in tongues, but I do not. If what you do is speak/pray ecstatically or like you said, extravagantly you might need to examine/study the Scriptures again. A lot of us fell for this error, innocently/sincerely, but error is still error. And to think you have taught many same error before realizing the truth is very terrible. We must study tongues again. We must become like Berean believers and don't mind whether it is Corey or Sid Roth or Kenneth Copeland or Paul Washer is teaching. We must differentiate what is descriptive from what is prescriptive. Not everything is normative and we are not to replicate everything simply because it mentioned in the Bible. And we must not prefer our experience to the Scriptures. Tongues are not ecstatic utterances, they are not unintelligible gibberish. They are not some private prayer language of some sort. Tongues are not learned or taught, they were not given to every believer. Tongues may be an evidence of the Holy Spirit in a believer but not THE evidence. Tongues are not heavenly or angelic in the sense that they can't meaning to the hearers, if they are such, then they are unfruitful. Angels when they spoke in the Bible, they spoke in the language their audience understood and spoke...many that prayed powerfully in the Bible, from the patriarch to the prophets and to the apostles, they all prayed in no special language to be heard of God. Even Jesus in Matthew 6 said, do not "bathalata" when we pray...that is, not to repeat meaningless phrases mechanically. Don't brabrabra, dabaladaba, shindaraba shindaraba. That's paganistic experience. Quite alright, we receive the Holy Spirit when we get born again. But some are "led" to Christ without being actually regenerated. So they do not receive the Holy Spirit then. If later on they "encounter" God, then the Holy Spirit takes residence in them. I believe we can be FILLED with H/Spirit as we continue to yield ourselves to God in the study of Scriptures, in prayers and worship. Remember, the anointing is given to us, and remains in us.

@Lionhearted128, you’re believing false teachings created by the Pentecostals/Charasmatics, because nowhere in scripture is speaking in tongues tongues ever called a “prayer language” nor is that the purpose for the gift of tongues. Also, nowhere in scripture does it ever say that speaking in tongues is the evidence of having received the Holy Spirit. In fact the Bible clearly says that not everyone who receives the Holy Spirit will speak in tongues. You are also misinterpreting the verse that says “speaks mysteries to God” as it is impossible to speak mysteries to God. When psul says that, it’s the equivalent of someone today saying “speaking into the wind” & nowhere in the Bible does it ever say anything about supernatural mystery nor that preaching is supernatural. I was raised Pentecostal & for many years, I too, believer those Pentecostal/Charasmatic false teachings. Thankfully God opened my eyes to the truth of his Word & the truth of his Word led me out of the fakde teachings of Pentecostal/Charasmatic movement.

But you can't be a babe in Christ. And be led by the spirit, You have to grow.

You can't grow without the Holy Spirit. It's impossible for man to play a role in their own salvation. That's why sanctification is a lifelong work of the Holy Spirit. If you didn't receive Him at salvation that would mean Jesus is a liar when He said He wouldn't leave us as orphans. He had to go away so the Spirit may come in His place to help us grow in faith.

@Iamwho_Iam316 Once we're born again we're sealed with the holy spirit, And our salvation is sealed, A babe cannot follow the holy spirit because he could not keep up and would not understand, The way we grow is through understanding of his word, A child could But that's the learning stage Where are we getting to know him and developing a relationship, It takes a mature Son or Daughter of God. To truly be led by the spirit. Too many people are still drinking milk.😇 Galatians 5:22 Practice practice practice! By practicing these we show our faith and our brothers and sisters and most of all the world will know, our Father is real by us demonstrating the fruit of the spirit😇

One can only become a “believer” when simultaneously the Holy Spirit is received & then they believe. One cannot believe in Christ “without” the Holy Spirit because one is spiritually dead.
