Amazing movie. I watched 8 movies in one sitting ! Just one small thing: What the root reason of ELEC failure condition caused RAT deployment is both transfer buses lost power. 5 generators fail will cause both transfer buses lost power. If just one generator available, even one BUG is working, the RAT will not deploy, because the generator will supply power to both transfer buses. But even 5 generators are working, if electrical system shorted on wire, caused both transfer buses fail, the RAT will deployed with all engines available.

I question the case ALL 5 GENERATORS FAIL (APU+4 Engine generators). The APU is not normally able to prevent RAT deploy if it is OFF. If the 4 main engine generators fail or are turned off intentionally (MH370 possible case) APU will automatically come on, but it takes about 60-secs to fire up. Thus RAT could deploy if only the 4 engine generators fail. MH370 case (possible deliberate diversion) brings up a lot of complex questions of unorthodox ("intentional") failures.

A question: the RAT deploys when all 5 gennys fail, all hydraulic pumps fail or there is loss of hydraulic PSI due to a leak. How will the RAT help hydraulic PSI if there is none to pump? Like when the DC10 in Iowa lost all its fluid due to an engine explosion, or the DC10 that lost its engine on take off from ohare??
@justing429 күн бұрын
hydraulic fuses do that

The right hydraulic system also operates the brakes, and the center system operates the steering. (Not mentioned in this video)

Just wondering i know how the RAT sorta works but could they also figure a way to get some electrical power from the spinning blades of the engine also even if they run out of fuel the blades would still windmill

Engine fan blades do nothing but help suck air in to the compressor.

I've got a question: If the RAT only powers the left elevator, wouldn't it create an uneven distribution of lift? If you're trying to save the aircraft in that situation, why not power both elevators?

it powers the left HYDRAULIC system…not just left elevator

Can we deploy the landing gear ONLY with the RAT, in either normal or alternate mode?
@AircraftScience Жыл бұрын
No, The RAT power can only operate the flight controls. When center hydraulic system power is unavailable, an alternate system is used for gear extension.

Can the landing gear deploy solely from the power provided by RAT and batteries?
@AircraftScience2 жыл бұрын
The aircraft has an alternate gear extension system which uses battery power to unlock the landing gear. Once unlocked they free fall to the down position. RAT power is only used for the control surface operation.

Can APU and the intake door it needs to open be used in flight?
@AircraftScience Жыл бұрын
Provided there is no failure, the APU is available in the air. It supplies electrical power at any altitude. Pneumatic power (bleed) is available up to an altitude of 22k feet.
@billtracy87748 ай бұрын
APU takes about 60-secs to fire up, so it is not instantaneously available. There may also be certain operational constraints such as reasonable altitude for APU to start..

You told to us 2 conditions when RAT commanded to deploy. But there is another situation to deploy it. Manual control from flight deck P5 control panel. PAT can be deployed automatically only when aircraft is in the air. But manual deployment available even on ground. If you want to tell us something, do it with full information, otherwise you have a risk to be dilettantes.
