@@tokhote first off, stun guns don't work 100% of the time, some people especially on people on drugs are unaffected, secondly, a single punch can kill someone well unlikely is a possibility, thirdly in many cases people can wrestle away guns and kill the officer, plenty of video's you can search for where cops fail to fire and end up being the one with a bullet in the head. very simple thinking that shouldn't be needed to be explained, i'm hoping you're aleast grade 9 to excuse your clear lack of intelligence

@@bibauer6933 Yes Ethan made the choice to try meth, but the meth quickly takes near-total control of your mind. So Ethan made a choice that allowed meth to ruin his life. Most addicts don't choose to stay addicts because they like to get high, they do it because they want to feel normal, most people start because they like to party with friends and have a good time, and before they even realize it, they already addicted. The effects it has on your mind and body is what makes then become addicts. Would you rather: Feel normal, or feel like you have food poisoning and are having every inch of your body repeatedly smashed with a hammer, while someone constantly does the thing that annoys you the most non-stop while repeatedly saying "I'll stop if you just do some." It seems like it will NEVER stop and you have no choice. Don't speak on things you don't know my guy, and if you do know, you should have a bit more compassion and understanding. Addiction is Hell. Meth is even worse because it warps your brain worst than most other hardcore drugs. He made a decision that took away his ability to make decisions basically (of course not literally, but pretty damn close) Most people don't have the willpower and self control to do something like stopping chewing their finger nails, things that are only habitual with no physical or mental dependencies, and the average person wants an addict to "just say no", some substances can kill you if you stop taking them the wrong way. I'm not saying it is impossible, and he has no blame to account for, but I am saying it is damn hard to do, definitely harder to do than most peoples' top accomplishment. After Ethan tried meth, he wasn't really Ethan anymore. If you know anyone who has dealt with Substance Abuse Disorder, then you know what I mean. Some people can't stick to a diet without having a supervisor and a network of support, yet, those same people want addicts, who usually have no one and deal with issue like depression, to just "say no" and stop immediately. It's so hypocritical.

According to the attorney general's report, Ethan Freeman suffered from serious mental illness "for most of his adult life". He was prone to paranoid episodes where he thought everyone was spying on him, especially the cops. His landlord noticed he was suffering worse psychotic episodes than usual in the days before his tragic death at the age of 37. On the morning of the events in this video, he didn't recognize the landlord and brandished a roasting fork at him. Ethan actually declined to be admitted when he got to the hospital, and it isn't certain how he got home. The landlord said he was dropped off by a creepy black car no one had seen before. Also, he was limping with a swollen knee and refused to explain. By the time Officer Yao arrived, Ethan was already covered in open wounds and bruises from whatever he was doing to himself. He died very quickly after being shot, possibly instantly - there was no chance to save him. The toxicology report found high levels of caffeine, nicotine, and THC. Officer Yao has served in the US Marine Forces Reserves and is now a detective in Haverhill, NH.

For those who don’t know, 10 feet is incredibly close when someone is charging at you and that gap closes quickly. Yao did everything he could and waited until the absolute last second to use force.
@robertbeard230
@robertbeard230 9 ай бұрын
Was looking for this. I’ve seen comments in the past like, “They should’ve just tased him,” or, “Why didn’t they just hit him in the leg?” At 30 feet, a suspect can cover that distance before any officer can draw, aim, and fire. Even if the suspect is hit, they don’t drop on the spot like you see on TV. They can continue their attack for several minutes after taking shots, so long as their heart is still beating and head still intact. Another aspect that nobody realizes until they’re in that situation, or they’re trained to know, is when you’re using a firearm for self defense you aren’t going to use your sights. You aim and squeeze, possibly until the clip is empty. There’s no time to carefully line up the sights at close range; at 30 feet, you have less than three seconds to successfully ward off the average assailant before your own life is forfeit. Any time police take someone out and the public (who weren’t there) call foul, I have to interpret that with some skepticism. I had a neighbor once who was acting suıcidal, so his mother called 911. It didn’t matter who would’ve showed up; officers, social workers, Boy Scouts…. he was intent on harming others, then himself. He had an hunting knife and had been cutting himself. Officers tased him when he approached aggressively, but it had no effect (adrenaline does that sometimes). When he charged around the front of a cruiser and tried to stab an officer, they put five in center mass, and that was the end of it. He got within inches of stabbing that officer in the neck.

Its all the more tragic when you consider the fact that Ethan probably didn't want to put Yao in that position either, but the man was clearly struggling with mental and substance abuse issues and cruel twist of fate saw him and Yao having to meet once more but while he was being consumed by his inner demons. The US really needs to up its public medical infrastructure for mental health care, so that people like Ethan can get help before its too late and good law enforcement officers like Yao aren't put in positions where they have to kill someone to defend themselves when the person in question really just needs mental help badly. The sad fact is, Ethan didn't deserve to die and Yao didn't deserve to be put in a position where he had to kill someone he wanted to help just to keep himself safe. I will say Yao was definitely justified in shooting Ethan, he gave him a lot of chances and when push comes to shove a dead police officer is of no help to anyone so Yao handled the bad situation admirably. I hope this event doesn't drain Yao's empathy completely. The world needs more empathy not less but I know all to well its very easy to be jaded and cynical these days, especially when attempts to do right end poorly for those who try.

Unfortunately any job has people who are corrupt and racist even killers. But cops are in those moments more often than any other profession. I have seen amazing cops but I have also seen horrible cops who abuse their power just to oppress certain races. I think with the gun laws being as lax as they are they (civilians and cops) are always going to be afraid of each other. I don’t think you need to take guns away and I respect your right. But just tighten them up. In my country (Australia) people think no one has guns here. That’s in correct but the licenses are difficult to get and the type of guns available are limited to hunting guns and hand guns. We don’t have access to semi automatic weapons. Which I feel besides country defense shouldn’t be available to civilians who only need guns for protection. But I have never shot a gun before so what do I know 😅

It really really sucks that he had to defend himself with lethal force, but it was completely justified. I’m sure it haunts him, too. Which sucks even more. If he was an elderly person with dementia, he wouldn’t be left to look after himself. But we do this with seriously mentally ill people. People like Ethan should live in residential care. When they have mental instability or something like depression, hallucinations, anxiety undiagnosed things like this need to be handled with extra care. That discretion is to individual police officers.. it's not about being lawful alone, it also involves ethics and compassion, empathy.

I absolutely agree. I believe there should be more deescalation training for officers across the board. They don't respond to just crimes in progress. Sometimes they end up dealing with a disturbance that's caused by someone having a mental health crisis. Deescalation in those type of delicate situations is difficult but very possible and beneficial to learn

@adam-qu3zi you don't understand. When you are a cop, you have to do your best to defuse the situation until you literally can't anymore. You're never meant to escalate the situation unless you absolutely need too. Officer Yao did exactly what he needed to. He did know what he was doing.

@@cartoonnetworkenjoyer you have to read the room, you have to read between the lines. If a guy is mentally troubled and he says "i am coming out to ki.ll you" you need to change your tactic,you need to pause and think of an alternative solution. You should never keep provoking him because you know he's coming to get you. I would be like "ok, this guy gone lunatic, i dont need to further agitate him, i am gonna shut my mouth and wait for him to calm down so i can try again instead of putting 7 bull.ets in em"
