Honestly, i used to watch the people who criticized this show endlessly. Im not gonna pretend the show doesnt annoy me past a certain point in its run, but i got so tired of hearing people complain forever about a show thats literally defined an entire generation and is the one of the faces of memes all across the internet for a reason. Ill always love the spongebob i grew up with, and acknowledge the shows newer seasons just arent for me, they never were and thats okay. Kids love him, and thats more important.

Admittedly, I binged Awe's SpongeBob videos some months back, namely the ones regarding characterization, though I fell out of interest due to the lack of editing (namely them fumbling their lines and not doing a retake or anything), and was deterred even further when I felt that they were milking the old "modern SpongeBob bad" concept. But yeah, I really agree that there should be more depth and sincerity to criticizing not just SpongeBob, but cartoons as a whole. I feel like a lot of the hatred towards this sort of stuff is the result of people treating their opinions on something as objective issues with it. I personally prefer the comedy of SpongeBob's first three seasons, as I think that it's a nice balance of being laid-back and being wacky, but I don't think the modern show's comedy is objectively terrible, just a bit "much" for me. This isn't to say that there aren't objective problems with the later seasons of the show that impact its quality, but I think it's more complex than just: "I don't particularly like how it's animated now." I can't name any objective problems myself, though, since I haven't watched very much of the little sponge after some season that I forgot about. Yapping's almost done, but I just gotta mention that the whole "Stephen Hillenburg doesn't want spin-offs" idea might not even be true. I recall someone saying that it wasn't that he DIDN'T want spin-offs, but that he couldn't see it happening, or something along those lines. So yeah, this is an example of why research when it comes to claims made on the internet should always be done yadayada comment finished.

5:00 It should also be noted that this scene in particular was how Mrs. Puff seen SpongeBob in that story. It was overly-exaggerated. At this point of the show Puff just hates SpongeBob _that_ much to it's where *THIS* was how she saw him. Of course, this clip was cut to _not_ show Puff starting the story and make SpongeBob look that much like a creep out of nowhere. Another episode (Ride Patrick Ride) had a moment where Patrick fell down Dead Man's Hill in a flashback, but people forgot to post the context to _that_ too (Patrick was dreaming that he actually did ride down the hill and helped people enough to where he got the key, and iirc the lock, to Bikini Bottom; the coma part and what _really_ happened was mentioned though), because it felt like a Family Guy cutaway. People who dunk on a show past a certain point tend to either make sense (I have my issues with the show past season 3 but I also know some really good episodes/moments when I see them) or just be the most annoying people on the internet, and if there's two shows that have a lot of people in the latter, it's definitely this and RWBY.

I really like the visual style you have! It's super unique and really gives your channel it's own 'feeling' y'know? lol I also think your script writing is REALLY REALLY good. FAR BEYOND other small commentary peeps! I would also uplift what Trevor Marshall said. I think having crunchy, low bit rate audio is very cool, and helps add to your aesthetic, however it's a little aggressive sometimes. Otherwise, you definitely gained a sub here! This was a really rad vid :3

Fun fact: Almost everybody who has complained about Problem Solverz have never watched it past the first few episodes. I learned this not only from the blind hate for it(which almost entirely focus on the art style, you know, the part you don't have to watch it to know about) and from people harassing me for actually liking the show, because I bothered to watch it the whole way through

I always think of what happened with the Velma show, where the discourse surrounding it became so much bigger than the show itself. To the point that plenty of ppl who criticized the show either didn't watch it or watched it with negative expectations and a closed mind. I haven't watched any of the newer seasons of spongebob, (really even the old new) but it always kind of annoyed me when ppl point at the new style so melodramatically to essentially say "sponge have fallen :(" And it's just like, change? A show that is 25 YEARS old HAS to change. I'm sorry that it isn't what your grew up with, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still have value, and deserves a fair shake. I think ppl just need to admit to themselves that the show will NEVER be like how it was in the first 3 or 5 or 8 seasons again, especially how it was watching it as children. And that's okay. It's the fate of all childhood shows to some extent. Particularly those that have been going on for decades. I think the important part is whether ppl are able to recognize if maybe the show isn't stimulating enough anymore and they've grown out if it.

I'm one of the few people who unironically likes SpongeBob post-first film (hell, I even went out my way to watch stuff past the second film and I genuinely got a laugh or two out of it) and I tire so much of everyone just parroting "new SpongeBob sucks" and "ugh they're so desperate to cash in on nostalgia" and "they just do funny faces instead of actual jokes I know because of one clip on Twitter" as it's made me feel alone in my opinions. I have found others who share my opinion recently, but they tend to be few and far between. Not to say SpongeBob is perfect, there are some bits that I'm hesitant to call good, but I'm open-minded enough to go into something of it and bother to make my own opinion on it because no one likes a Squidward. And that's what most of SpongeBob's critics are at this rate: Squidwards.

With all due honesty, I hope this video either gets picked by the algorithm or through word of mouth, because it feels very genuine and introspective in a way that I think would be beneficial. But if it isn't, that's ok. Sometimes its best that the message takes time to arrive.

It’s crazy how Nathaniel Bandy, a Nintendo-centric KZbinr, made a better video criticizing SpongeBob episodes than most 2010s (and even 2020s) cartoon KZbinrs. He actually gives how opinion on each episode, and even admits that even the worst seasons of the main show does have some good episodes.

A show I actively avoided as a kid but had it everywhere around me, I know more of the show than I wished I did. It's not until I was older where I realized there's good art into making some of the episodes and all those kids loving the show for being noisy, dumb and obnoxious were just wrong. Even for me who avoided the show, I can watch the older episodes but the new ones- I turn my head and walk out the room, I can't watch them.
@Salberrysweet16 күн бұрын
That's perfectly fine, the new episodes being overstimulating is a genuine problem. I'm just saying that genuine problems is what we should focus on, and there's a lot of negativity against this show that isn't smart. If you gave the new episodes a fair shot and didn't watch them with the intent of preparing for internet culture wars, that's all I ask--doing that too much isn't healthy.

I just recently started having interest in how the show is going, it's actually the first time in my life (of 23 years) I heard anything negative about Spongebob. I used to just hate it for being popular and annoying as a kid. XD I do agree with the message of the video, and the modern internet audience complaining why show can't be how it was before the internet, but the complaining is part of why it can't come back. They wouldn't give it that shot, so why try.

The most annoying thing is when people who complain about modern SpongeBob always bring up the same few episodes. I can't take someone seriously when they base their opinion of an entire season on one bad episode
@fridge88216 күн бұрын
i watched spongebob as a kid and i watched it now than im nearly an adult i just like sponge there are some episodes of the newer seasons that i liked and some from the og seasons that i did not like and thats fine i even liked that episode were spongebob's driving teacher tries to kill him despite a lot of people trashing on it but, i have to agree that the show is overextending itself too much and you can tell because they are starting to make sequels of older episodes (this is not a bad thing when donde correctly tho) and making episodes were they reinvent pre established things like patrick's house not being a rock and if they keep they won't last long because they will eventually run out of things to reinvent or to make sequels for
@Salberrysweet16 күн бұрын
I always thought the shell episode was just a fun what-if scenario and not meant to be taken as a serious reveal. It's an episodic show and stuff like that isn't really meant to matter, but KZbinrs and twitter users gassing SpongeBob up as serious business all the time causes bad reactions out of impulse and like. They're in this spot where if they do old things it's a rehash. But if they do new things it's too improbable/weird/has lore contradictions/etc., you can't win sometimes.

Even though I'm personally not interested in watching Teen Titans Go simply because of their characterization of Robin I still think the hatred about this show is overdone. I get it, it's a bummer that we got this instead of season 6, but that doesn't mean the 2003 show is locked up by CN. We can still watch it and ignore TTG at all. Besides, I enjoyed TTG movies and even some episodes.

Life Lesson:Before you say whether you like a show/movie or not...watch it first to form your own opinion and don't let yourself be manipulated by the opinions of random people on the Internet.(And not to mention that many of these random people may even be posers)

bro you gotta do something aout the aggressive S sound, like when i watch its S S S S S S. like if you go on audacity and use the equalizer setting you can trim the high end of human vocal range and eliminate that. Like i know audio is more important than video for mobile users. just dont want people scared off by an annoyance ya know beyond that great work!

So, what you're saying is that most criticism of Modern SpongeBob is just people "stating a preference" and that former fans of the show are biased and the only people whose opinions matter are the target audience? Yeah sure, whatever!
@Salberrysweet7 күн бұрын
No, I'm saying that as a critic you need to actually factor in what's good for the majority of people consuming it and not just your peers. If you can't convince the average parent that their kids' time is better spent watching Pizza Delivery than the new stuff or even just brainrot in general, then your opinion is basically worthless in getting the show back on track to your personal tastes

It's not about "thing is good", it's about the fact that most of the time talking about this stuff is unproductive because most modern cartoon analysis is sloppy. I listed actual issues I had with the show but you didn't get far enough in the video to notice it
